l'Abbaye des Morts, the game ported to loads of systems now gets an expanded version on Amiga (made by me).

Managed to order the retrotink 4k. I had to use crazy workarounds under stress because they rejected my credit card.
Now still anxious to see how it arrives but passed that first hurdle.

Anyone here with rgh 3 xbox 360 experience? Bought one second handed and it keeps freezing in games after 5 min.
I use it to play my region locked japanese games.

No experience, but I've read it can be flaky with OG 360 models compared to the slims.

So I've been playing the Saturn version of SOTN, because a recent translation + enhancements patch is getting touted as the definitive way to play the game. Frankly I'm not so sure. The loading times for areas and for menus are still quite a lot longer than the XBLA version, and the missing graphical effects are quite noticeable at times.
That said, it's a pretty fun game still. Guess I'll finish it again, and maybe attempt a Maria run.

They should’ve used the PS1 translation. It had a lot more charm than the PSP translation, which is what they went with.

Or alternately, hold on till the Megadrive homebrew version of Symphony of the Night version is done. The loading times problem is solved. The missing graphical effects problem not so much... On the Megadrive, enemy counts also take a massive hit over the original version.
The demo version is already out there.

i.imgur.com/guLedKz.pngi.imgur.com/yHVNK9g.pngI've always really liked the 2D-3D background of the Royal Chapel. The Saturn version looks extremely barebone in comparison. The clouds also appear out of nowhere instead of fading into view like in the PS1.

Had an Anberic RG35XX for a couple of months and just loved the nostalgia, all those logos man- Infogrames, Psygnosis etc. Now I've ordered a Retroid Pocket 4+ so I can play more PS1, 2 and maybe even Wii stuff. So damn neat to have all those games in your hands.

I got my Retrotink 4K safely, was a bit stressing to boot up considering it costs, but have tried some games on the PSP. My camera overblows the contrast and blue but here is how it looks: ibb.co/thKdJtTibb.co/2krwLYZI cannot yet give a complete overview of the device and my experience. These images are without a lot of options and basicly a profile I used that came with the device. Really impressed with PSP component atm.

Has anyone hacked their Vita and played games for trophies? I've been playing offline, as I assumed Sony would check I've hacked it, but from reading Reddit, Sony doesn't seem to care.

I don't use it much, but yeah I put retroarch on mine and got a SD adapter for it and still had no issues using it online.
Got two RG35XX+ delivered recently and I'm loving the portability. Perfect size for just chucking in your jacket pocket. The 64GB collection of ROMs is fucking odd though. Hundreds of GB games but no Tetris. Ended up using a small SD card for the OS and a 256GB one for ROMs, as it seems to be a ballache to update it if everything is on the first card. Cracking little device!

No Mario games either, they dropped all the games likely to get them sued.

I wonder why it's so much easier to play old games for score. I mean, of course that's the point, but... in modern games, even those where there's a score counter (think about all those games from the 360 era with leaderboards), I just don't feel the same about it. I just want to finish them.
I'm vaguely interested in the Atari 400 Mini just because of that. I'll have to wait for the titles list. In the meantime, I'll dig into Altirra.

Based on DF's Road Rash retrospective I decided to commit to completing Road Rash 2 which I'd never done before, and I finally cleared it the other night. It's not as absurdly hard as I recall, the trick apparently is to buy the exact right motorbikes as a lot of the end game bikes have no stability at all
I actually give Road Rash 2 credit for my long term interest in retro gaming. It was a game I had as a kid but never really liked that much as it wasn't a mascot platformer, and as a adult, it was seeming like the only retro games I could stand were ones I'd already played to death as a kid. I vividly remember one nice summers day opening a beer and playing it just before I lit the BBQ. Somewhere during the Arizona track I remember thinking holy shit, I'm completely unironically enjoying this. And lo, an obsession was born

Road Rash on PS1 with the Soundgarden soundtrack won't be beaten for me. That was immense.

I did the series completely wrong tbh. Road Rash PS1 completely passed me by, and I next went for RR3D, which was really quite iffy. I then deliberately skipped jailbreak thinking it was more of the same - and of course turns out it wasn't, and is considered quite good - and then the series died I'll go and pick up Jailbreak at some point I think. Though I definitely prefer the rock n' roll and then grunge vibe of the first games more than the heavy metal of 3D and Jailbreak

I have been playing around more with the Retrotink 4K, its a incredible device even at its steep costs. I also have tried upscaling 720p content and depending on the game it is very noticeable. Eternal Sonata on the PS3 with forced HDR/Derp Colours and subtle scanlines really does look like a PS4-Pro remaster of sorts. 1080p upscaling looks marginly better then what your TV does if its a cheaper or non Sony model. The HDR can be a gamechanger for some PS3 games (Tales of games, Puppeteer, Eternal Sonata). Because of a inbuild gamma autocorrect it does not crush blacks like the 5x pro does.
I still think the main reason to own one, is for upscaling SNES/PS1/Saturn to perfection and usage of CRT filters. If you have a decent CRT, PS2 and gamecube on the tink get very close at 480i. It does make me interested in using my old Wii again with deflicker filter and correct aspect ratio.
I do think that for the vast majority a 5xpro is more then enough. If people here have any interest I can try and post some foto's of multiple consoles and what it looks like?

I'm not in the market for one, but am very intrigued and would love to see pics of how it performs, especially the CRT filters.

I'm intrigued at what the LCD filters at 720p looks like, if you can capture that?
Also I know that you won't be able to show it, but what kind of control do you have for BFI? Can you use HDR injection to re-brighten it and if you do, can you still appreciate the improved motion clarity?
I like BFI on my OLED and can really see the difference in clarity on scrolling graphics, but I just can't bring myself to sacrifice the brightness.

I have not yet attempted to use BFI, from what I read on 4k discord, it only works great with HDR and 120hz (some even attempt 240hz for improved motion). The tink cannot do 4k 120hz, so you need to drop to 1440p to enable both on the device itself. The workaround is using my LGC1 for BFI, allowing me to output 120hz 4k. I can capture the HDR/BFI on camera, the LCD or other filters are difficult to capture but will try and upload some pictures. For BFI video I would need to upload to my youtube account.

ibb.co/xq1TqK4Due to how BFI works it was pretty hard to get this picture with the right brightness. The LGC1 implementation is much better, you do see a slight flicker if your eyes are sensitive but motion is much improved. I also cant use 720p as a option. Lowest is 480p. I think he( Mike Chi) has removed it due to some issues. I will make a picture at 1080p.

I'm visiting Japan for the first time next month and am quite tempted to pick up a Japanese Dreamcast.
How easy is it to mod so that I can play all regions? I'd rather not spend anything on modding the machine but think I read you can get a disc that allows you to boot up any game.
Anyone done this before?

I used to use an Action Replay demo disc IIRC for import titles (although I initially used the disc swap trick on my original HK DC before that came out). Preety sure that unless it is the latest model you can nuat make a boot disc on a CD-R which helped kill the machine off...

I used an import enabler disc called DC-X. It worked fine with Japanese imports on my PAL DC but couldn't force a non-VGA game to work via VGA IIRC. That may have been more of a hope on my part rather than an advertised feature. I also tried a magazine cover disc which demoed some cheats (possibly a Blaze disc) that also allowed my Japanese games to work. I only had 7 or 8 though. Edit: It was a Blaze Xploder cheat demo disc. Some suggestions here: www.dreamcast-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4503

I'm not normally one for remakes / remasters but I'll make an exception for Charles and the Revolution team, because Broken Sword is a god damn masterpiece and one of my favourite games of all time (despite having only completed it in recent years...). Plus I love how it's looking, the dynamic lighting and 4k looks glorious. They've annoounced a kickstarter if you like your collectable stuff, I'm tempted by the £100 level just for the George figurine to stand on my desk... www.kickstarter.com/projects/revolution-software/broken-sword-reforged-collectors-edition
