My partner now says that ‘No’ whenever I ask her something. Literally anything.

Good, ask her if she'd mind you buying a motorcycle and a guitar

I don’t think that’s a good idea. I’d probably injure myself trying to use both of those things at the same time. They don’t call me Dangerous for nothing.

Speaking of Tomb Raider 2; I’m part way through the final set of levels (in Tibet) and I’m starting to suffer massively from fatigue. It’s a pretty looking game for its time, with much more visual variety than the original, but the level design is much worse than I remember. It’s not terrible, but it’s not good.
Kinda feels like the level designers either suffered fatigue or were forced to sacrifice level/puzzle design to accommodate the new environment choices, like with Venice stages.
It’s pretty telling I’ve kinda forgot about the last half of this game. I don’t think I ever revisited it.

I've only done the first level and the first one in Venice, but I love it so far. It's got that 'what a sequel should be' feel to it. New moves, Lara feels a bit more nimble (might just be because I'm used to it after the first game) and the environments actually resemble something instead of just tombs with different textures
The guantlet in the first level with all the traps was great and I've already killed 2 T. rex, so that's 100% more T. rex than the first game just in the first level. There's more combat (and hitscanners at that) but guns seem more effective and enemies drop health/ammo
The level design in the Venice level feels a lot more open but I enjoyed working through it (think I just need to hop in the boat and figure out the route to the exit now)
Similarly to the first game, a lot of nostalgia for the Venice level but don't remember anything about the level before that or anything else. I think it might have been the demo level. But I definitely know I had the original because I vividly remember the box art. It was before the internet and I'd have been about 13

To be fair, for the most part, Venice is done well. And although I’m not a fan of the vehicles generally, the boat is fine too. It’s worked into its level like a puzzle piece and it’s wel done. It’s just the longer the game goes on, the larger the levels become and the less variety they have. They all look great, but it starts to drag. I really enjoyed revisiting the sunken ships, but I’m just finding keys or switches to open doors over and over again. And every door spawns more enemies. Every corridor has a boulder to dodge.
I never used to feel this way about it, so maybe I’m just having a grumpy phase. I just remember having to spend more time digesting my surroundings in the first game, as if I was unravelling a puzzle. You dont really do that in the second game.

At the start of the second Venice level, there's a balcony right above where you enter that looks like it's got one of those little white statues on it. I've tried jumping from the other balcony beside it across the water to the awnings, which look like you can use them to jump across to get to where the statue is, but Lara just falls through them. Do you know if that's a glitch or is there another way I'm missing/the statue is an illusion? Can't see any other way of getting there. I should just leave it as it doesn't really matter but it's right there
(Hopefully you know the exact bit I mean)

Oh never mind, I think I can see an opening of some kind on the balcony. Must be another way!

I honestly can’t remember, but usually the solution involves coming from another location.

I have been playing old games this year.
Beaten a 1998 game, a 2007 and now I'm playing fallout tactics, 2001.
Never beaten it but did go far in 2012. Unfortunately last year I couldn't recover my old save from the old computer so decided to play it from beginning anyway.
I am the worst player though. Save scumming so so much. Reason is that given my game time limitations I dislike immensely not progressing in games.
So if I fight and get hurt too much or worse, die, I would need to roll back to old save otherwise continuing will make everything else more unpleasant. So wasting long time on redoing same fights is also unpleasant.
Quick save and quick load fixes that.
Having lots of fun. But it does have lack of quality of life features. Like giving you ability to limit movement so you still can shoot, give path to where you want to move your character so you don't do pointless action. Inventory management is atrocious.
But still. Fun game.

Still loads on go,specifically on ps5. But my current "main" on ps5 is ROTR and my new "main" on Xbox is now Alan Wake 2, played 30 odd mins, seems pretty good.
I have completed 4 games this month though 👍 Still Waters Alone in the dark Little Kitty/Big City Hellblade 2

It's just something I do and if a game loves it's Trial-and-Error that just pushes me to do it even more. And let's be honest: Some games are just definitely designed with it in mind. Others either don't allow it in battles or provide some alternative mechanic like limited resurrections.

Some games don't have it at all, like Project I.G.I.

I have fond memories of accidentally pressing the quicksave button in games like Quake while on 1% health, and then having to replay the next section a few hundred times to make it through in one piece, Edge of Tomorrow style!

Yeah, some games had quickload and quicksave buttons directly next to each other, which I quickly learned to redefine in keyboard settings.

The Excavation of Hobb's Barrow Haven't played a point and click for absolutely ages. The mood took me here. It's really great. The creepy Yorkshire village setting oozes atmosphere and the cast of misfits and weirdos are a lot of fun to chat with. Lots of intriguing hints within the story that drive you forwards. This is currently 39 PENCE on cdkeys. I haven't finished it yet as I'm slow at games these days, but I can definitely say it's worth that much.

I need to apologise that I’ve bought GTA V again. Well it was on Game Pass then I played about 20 hours.. now it’s off and I thought fuck going through the first 20 again. So you can all thank me for keeping GTA V in the charts.

I tinned off Octopath Traveller as the story wasn't really captivating me and a little too slow so I've moved onto Paper Mario: TTYD which I missed at the time of its original release, I'm liking it but the text scrolling speed is doing my head in, wish it would let me speed it up.

You also don't get the ability to run until like halfway through the game.

Just got to that part!
Such a weird design choice but grateful it's at least in there all the same.

It's a good game tbf. I'd also not played it until now, and I find it very charming. Which is good, because there's some baffling game design things in there that the charm is helping to smooth over.

So I reinstalled Starfield last night as I never completed it despite being near the end and about 120hrs in.
And.....I was quite enjoying it, especially with the 60fps update. I finished off the Crimson Fleet quest-line which I enjoyed, just have a couple of main quests now and I think I am done.
It does annoy me the hate the game gets. Some of it is justified, its creaking on an old engine thats for sure. But there can be a lot of fun had with it if you ignore the youtube haters.

Yeah, I’m enjoying it too. Still early days for me, but I’m starting to understand more of what the game has to offer. It’s a very chill game and a nice unwind in the evenings.

It's a fine game, does some things well, but they did hype it up to be god-tier entertainment and you can't even walk through a door without a load screen, or take off in first person to at least pretend you're involved in actual spaceflight.

Onto chapter 3 in RDR2 and this is where the game really begins to shine. Seem to have forgotten enough that it's not overly fimiliar despite putting so many hours into the first playthrough.
Shame it never got a fancy lick of paint.

Started Roadwarden yesterday. About 10 hours in, and it's amazing. It's really really good, but I never managed to finish it and I think it's probably been too long for me to remember half of my decisions. My only qualm really is that it's possibly _too_ dense. The world building is absolutely terrific but by God there is a lot to keep track of even with the notes in the in game menus.
