Just two levels left on Dread Templar, so I'll probably get it done tomorrow. Thankfully nothing has been quite as difficult since the boss of the second episode and the last few stages of the third episode.

Dear Diary,
Today I parried a chainsaw with a combat knife, and it was FUCKING AMAZING.
Love,

Icewind Dale:
I can see why I forgot that Temple of the Forgotten God exists. Technically it's three levels, but two of them are very straightforward and the third is tiny and only there for the story. Probably the weakest bigger area of the game. Dragon's Eye on the other hand has already taken more than two hours and I'm not even done with the second level. Lizardmen, Trolls and Spiders everywhere. Thankfully only one Sword Spider so far. Mostly it's just Wraith Spiders that aren't too dangerous and give nice experience.

Streets of Rage 4 Still an amazing game. A series update done right. The soundtrack is incredible; there's a moment during the elevator section in the tower stage where the music kicks in and it proper gives me the feels There's a decent amount of stuff to do with Survival Mode and everything as well Coming up to the end of Monster Boy I think but stuck on a puzzle. Bugger. The puzzle where you have to turn on ghost translation in the options menu is cute

Remember Me
I'm really enjoying this.
I was expecting it to be more of an open world game, but it's very linear. Tomb Raider / PoP style platforming but there's only one route and it's very clearly highlighted - it's not remotely challenging, but I'm enjoying it nonetheless. They've made some very cool sci-fi Paris environments, and it's a fun way to move around them.
Then arena combat sections. I'd heard negative things about the combat in this, but I really like it. It took a while to gel though. I'm not really a 3rd person combat connoisseur (though I do seem to have played a bunch of them this year) and I haven't played most of the big names like DmC etc.. so I may not know what I'm talking about, but the combat in this feels different from most other ones I've played where I generally just mash buttons. You're balancing a whole bunch of different things (damage, healing, special-move-cooldowns, enemy vulnerabilities, dodging, shooting enemies off walls, shooting light switches, etc..) and it's more about picking the right combos to prioritize what you need at that moment than about just mashing enemies.
But mainly I'm a sucker for interesting sci-fi worlds, and this one is great. Not sure on the overall story yet, but I love the main character (despite her being a sassy Brit in a game set in Paris) and the individual moments are great.

Started Evil West only an hour in, seems linear and fun. Reminds me of Godhand for some reason.
Can't put my finger on it (no pun intended)

DeadSpace Remake
I can't believe I haven't touched it since November 2023. I was thinking it had been 6 months but no.
I'm nearing the end of chapter 3 I think just had to re learn the buttons and figure out what I was doing.

I played a total of 17 minutes of Batora: Lost Haven before uninstalling it.

Why?
Looking it up, I've seen it on sale a few times, but I keep mixing it up with some other game with a similar name and cover image. This one looks like a diablo-like, whereas the other one is a side scrolling JRPG type thing. This looks better than the JRPG at least..

Icewind Dale:
I ended up finishing off Dragon's Eye without running into too much trouble. The encounter that gave me so much trouble the last time turned out fine on the first try. There is this horde of Trolls and Talonite priests that cannot be pulled apart and where the whole group will always come running once any of them see any of the player's characters. There is this narrow pasage nearby, which can easily be blocked though, so my Paladin was able to stand in front for a surprisingly long time while my other characters were using ranged weapons and various area-of-effect spells and items. I eventually had to pull back the very hurt Paladin and my Druid managed to get off a Smashing Wave right through most of the group, which killed some of the Trolls and Priests and stunned some of the others.
The very last encounter down on Level 5 was pure luck though. I stupidly sent in the Paladin to hack at the boss without getting in any damage while standing in Cloudkill and receiving way too much damage from the boss and her minions. He eventually had to turn and run and heal up, while I let the Ranger - who had been standing at the back of the room with his bow - switch to his Long Sword and then engage the boss together with the Paladin at the room entrance. I barely noticed when she fell over, but as it turns out a Ranger with his extra attack plus Haste and a decent THAC0 is pretty effective in getting in the damage.
Meanwhile my Fighter/Cleric was badly hurt on the right side of the room, so he too had to run away. And ran away he did right through a trap that poisoned him. I'm still not quite sure if the antidote kicked in at the right time or he just saved against the poison, but he ended up standing outside the room with a single hitpoint for the rest of the battle.
The rest of it was mostly just trying to not have anybody die while trying to clean up the survivors. Most of them were in very bad shape and mostly out of healing potions and spells. It was really just brute force with a good bit of luck and a lot of running away.

Monster Hunter World (PS5)Had a bit of a dummy spit with this yesterday, deleting it in frustration in the morning after struggling to take down one of the monsters. Even posted a little rant in the Recently Abandoned Games thread about how the combat and mechanics are bad, before deleting it as it was a bit too salty. But then I literally could not stop thinking about the damn game for the rest of the day. It seems it has gotten its hooks into me. So I downloaded it again on the evening and started a new character, this time taking a bit of a different approach. I chose a bow instead of dual swords as it felt like keeping a bit of range between myself and the monsters would make the combat easier/more enjoyable, plus this time I'm gonna embrace the grind and take my sweet time farming gear sets before moving on to the next story mission. Which I guess is how it's meant to be played, right? Anyway, I had a much more enjoyable couple of hours on it before going to bed, and I think it might be clicking finally. The bow is a lot of fun to use and I'm now watching some tutorials and guides for the game and can't wait to get back to it. Monster Hunter definitely is one of those games that has you thinking about it when you are not actually playing it Coupled with it being wilfully obtuse to play, its a delicious torture MHW was the first one I played and absolutely hammered it for an intense period, and they said they made that one more accessible

Back to playing (and enjoying) RE4 after a brief hiatus - I've met up with Ashley, survived the horde with Luis, and now I'm looking for a place to lie low.

Ghouls'n Ghosts, been playing through it several times by now in different versions and I think it's one of my favourite games now. Stockholm syndrome is a wondrous thing

I've delved back into Enshrouded after the new update adding a new mountain region. Really is a charming game and exploring the new biom harks back to Skyrim and, more recently, Dragons Dogma 2. Not sure anyone has played it here but I would recommend it.

I've been keeping an eye on Enshrouded with a view to playing it with a friend. We did Valheim together which was awesome. Did you play that?

Half life Alyx. Found out recently there was a mod to let you play it like a normal game and that it was still great so just been waiting until it was on sale again. £16 currently and put a couple of hours in earlier. It’s amazing being back in this world. I’m sure it’s much better in vr but this is still a hell of a lot of fun playing like hl2 and it works really well so far with no issues apart from took a while to work out how to get the mod working.

Still playing Ratchet & Clank : Rift Apart
Definitely enjoying it more now but the same criticisms remain relevant
It’s things like flying around on the dragon thing to collect berries, some are basically impossible to get but you try for ages, eventually you give up after an hour or so. Then the game gives the dragon the ability to shoot fireballs which allows you to collect the rest. Just tell me that you stupid game instead of wasting my time
Otherwise it’s very good

Gradually learning my way into CK3. Restarted a few times but think I’m starting to get to grips with it. But I’ve now found myself in a bit of a situation. Bit of a long story as to how we got here but basically I inherited most of the Irish holdings my father had and Iceland to boot. Problem is I’m a 4 year old girl and everyone hates me. If I can survive the next 10 years or so I should be able to do quite a lot in this lifetime though.
