Really enjoyed the demo, and the additional bit on the end letting you sample skills from later in the game really sunk its teeth into me. Action is really good, story intrigued me enough (and was darker than I'd expected) and I had a lot of fun. Only small gripe is that the movement outside of combat felt a little stilted.
I'm invested though, and very tempted to make this a day one purchase (even though I was promising myself either Jedi Survivor or Diablo as my next purchase). Decisions decisions.

Copies are already in some peoples hands and story spoilers getting out there. Just take precaution, the demo wouldn't have hit as hard for me if I knew what was gonna happen.

Very tempted by this. Other than a handful of hours in 7 (original) and 12, I've never played a FF game. This seems like the one to pop the cherry.

Bit late to the party but damn this is pretty damn good no. From the combat I could immediately feel the influence of the combat director of DMC5 all over it. Also so pretty.

*snip* after this one I was wondering when the next ebay code for The Games Collection is going to turn up as I think I'll actually go for it this time. Currently there's a 10% off code on ebay and with some bonus Nectar point stuff and it's ordered...

Checked the bit of the latest stream where they covered the lack of lip sync on the Japanese voices. They started off reasonably enough with some fairly convincing technical and practical reasons (it would ultimately be too much work: since the voices and facial animation is recorded together in english as part of performance capture, they couldn't separate those parts of the animations out easily and when they did tests using automated generation software it looked bad so they couldn't do that). They gave the example of FF14 where the lip movements and expressions are stored as separate animations and put together on playback so that's a reasonable thing to do in that case.
But then Yoshida launched into some weird excuse about the characters not being Japanese and it's a fantasy setting so Japanese style acting wouldn't work and look false - in that case why even record the lines in Japanese? Bizarre reasoning, borderline disrespectful to what is a very solid Japanese cast, and completely rubbed me up the wrong way at the point when I was convinced it was a reasonable decision. A FF14-playing friend says Yoshida's got form for that in that the team will have a reasonable practical reason why they haven't implemented a particular feature yet, and then follow it up with something completely fictional for no reason.
I did get through the demo in the end and very much enjoyed the combat and scale, but I will be waiting for at least a major update to fix the camera/motion blur issues and performance (which they did say they were looking into) and probably a price drop too, if not just waiting to see what happens with the PC version.

Is there another section in the demo I may have missed? I’m not trying to be funny, I feel I may have actually missed something, as the demo I played up until the two monsters beat the shit out of each other, had the most basic 3 or 4 hit combos with [] I’m struggling to see what anyone is impressed by?
I enjoyed it overall and will likely get it because FF, but the combat was miles away from DMC.

There’s another option you can pick from the main menu after you finish the story bit and save your clear save. It’s mostly combat and lets you play around with the system a lot more.
It has the dodge and wolf assist rings equipped by default so do have a look at your equipment and play around with it.

It's a bit more than just swinging a sword, it's the movement, parrying, backdashing, air backdashing plus all the videos I've seen of the later game combat I think it looks pretty fucking sweet.

In the second section you have all your basic moves and a bunch more elemental moves unlocked - check the abilities menu and you can see what you have. The lunge and charge attacks in particular feel essential and you get enough AP in the story section but it doesn’t point you towards them.

So I have been shitting on this game for a while now and I have just this second finished the demo. I still think this is a shitty Final Fantasy game.
However, if i forget that and take the game based on its own merits, then the demo absolutely blew me away.
I am a huge fan of dark and morbid stories, things like Game of Thrones which hit hard. I was completely invested after the demo in the characters, the lore and the story. I could feel the hair on the back of my neck prick up at times, especially with the epic soundtrack.
Only downside is that the performance was shit, it didn't look anything special unless there were particle affects on the screen.
I may have to bite the bullet on this one, haven't been that invested in a game after just 90mins in a long time.

They say they're looking at performance, probably worth waiting to see what happens with that if it matters to you. I'm sure DF will be on the case whatever happens.

I'm sold, I thought it was amazing, it's like game of thrones meets final fantasy and is properly grim. Some of the twists had me agape.
Combat is really fun too, I love the magic melee mix.
Ive gone from thinking I'll miss it to wanting it day one.
Really good demo chunk too, as I said earlier I'm really loving these longer demoes, really helps when you're on the fence.

www.eurogamer.net/heres-why-some-players-plan-to-boycott-final-fantasy-16I read this article yesterday, it's quite clickbaity especially as it's based off a forum post on Resetera, I know I know, that did a poll to see who isn't going to play the game because there are no brown people in the game, of course the excuses from the producer is hilarious in itself, but the clincher is that the article has comments allowed on it. There were no controversial or aggressively moronic comments just people saying how the article was pure clickbait not a great article in itself but also a comment on the quality of work that EG is putting out especially on weekends, so they ...completely deleted all comments.

I thought I really liked Eurogamer, that's why I stuck with them for so long.
Turns out it was actually you guys that made it what it was.
I never read anything there these days.

I like how 16 games in, with each one mechanically or spiritually different from the one that came before, we are still arguing over what makes a true Final Fantasy game or that is has to have a checklist of things to be constituted as one. But that measure you would think FF1 is the least FF of them all.

I think it was a bit of both, but all of the old team have moved on anyway. I rarely poke my head back there anymore. I can’t remember the last opinion I aired about there, and they’re still mostly later than everyone else with news articles.

Eurogamer: The Next Generation seems all over the place today, keen on clickbait and publishing some absolute rubbish, I look at the support only stuff and wonder why anyone would pay for it.
As for that story it was crap, trying to get some clicks then trashing the comments thread is hilarious.

I've disliked their content for a good while, always so late to everything and their takes are always designed to drive traffic so I used to go purely for the forum. Still like to look at the front page every now and then to remind myself how downhill it's gone.
Noticed I haven't been able to log in for a long time, suspect they banned my account from a simple comment pointing out the quality.
Anyway, looking forward to Thursday!

Last I heard neogaf was taken over by the sort of people that championed gamergate. Oh and I think the owner had accounts of sexual assault listed

Yeah, Neogaf is a dumpster fire and so is that thread.
Anyway EG seemed to have Streisanded themselves by deleting the whole comment section as it bled into another comments section and the editor got involved and said some fair comments although they seemed to have rankled people by calling them "guests to the website" which isn't great to hear if you're paying money to the site as a subscriber, especially as the content they get seems to universally terrible.

EG have always come across as hypocritical on this. They've acknowledged their own lack of diversity previously (a few editors ago) but have failed to address it in any meaningful way.
Posting shit articles designed to provoke outrage was always going to result in this sort of reaction. The worst part for me is that these kind of articles make diversity seem petty and insignificant. It's entirely counterproductive, assuming that they do actually care about the topic.

The key way to deal with clickbait is to not engage. Let it all die into obscurity like it deserves to. And the writers will have brought it on themselves.
Besides, Rodger Reedpop will probably figure out how to replace them all with AI soon.

Pre-load is up for digital purchases. 14.8 GB for starters, which I assume equates to what we got in the prologue. 90 in total.

I was listening to the FPS podcast yesterday and they have the voice actor for Clive on. I was already on board but he's totally sold me on it. He's really passionate about games and FF generally. Really looking forward to it now.
