The motion blur in this game does show the reconstruction breakup when you rotate the camera though. It’s bit off-putting, but nothing I can’t live with.

They have already said it's being patched I believe just not in the launch patch Good to know so thank you. I will wait a few weeks then to see if they patch in motion blur options sooner rather than later. With a little luck they might further optimise the graphical performance a little too but that is sounding like it could be further down the line if much at all (not a deal breaker given it’s an rpg but being an arpg then would be nice if they can further smooth things out especially the Performance mode…) if anyone has any opinions of the motion blur effect (good or bad) would be interesting to hear them! I would not say its standard. Something is off about the implementation. I am 3 hours in and its rather offputting. I will say, I think the camera negatively contributes to the motion blur. It autocorrects in rather intrusive ways.... I suggest to not turn the camera during combat manually but to switch targets during fights. The framerate is all over the place when aiming for 60. Going to try quality mode now for a bit. I find the game of thrones comparisons rather lazy in general in terms of story. However not-Hodor is well definitely inspired in not the most positive of ways... I really don't like these badly done gentle giant tropes. Hopefully he develops a bit (well not in a Mice and Man kind off way).

Worthless fucking bastards at Royal Mail not delivering this today. About the 4th time a pre order sent 1st class hasn't arrived on the day of. Tracking service is worse than useless, "We can only provide an update when we attempt to deliver your item".

Break into the depot and steal it.
Then burn it down.

Really didn't expect to pull off a parry on the Fafnir's spin cycle.

It’s a callback to FFI-III It works within the context of the Yoshitaka Amano art because everything he draws looks like that, but it does stick out in this comparatively subdued and realistic iteration.

I think it's more the colour than anything else. I got a new sword after fighting someone with bad wind which is pretty sexy looking.
Can't wait to get back on this Sunday, might get an hour or 2 before then but nothing much.

Damn this game is good, just about to leave home base again after a certain thing pops up there the Moogle (very insignificant spoiler but it indicates how far along. Somewhere in the region of 4+ hours after the demo ended. Really enjoying myself, loving the combat and the options it gives you, especially once you've trashed a certain building. Ralph Ineson as Cid is excellent, as are all the voice cast really but he certainly stands out. As for being inspired by Game of Thrones, the game even has it's own Hodor, he's rather more talkative though.
I did have a chuckle at the name of this trophy.

This is far more brutal than I was expecting. Absolutely brilliant so far though. The game really shines during 1v1 boss fights.

Not to start with but after Clive gets a bit further in you can definitely see the similarities.

It definitely has that dna in there, helm breakers, stingers, devil bringer etc but I think DMC is purely about combat expression, thats why it has a style ranking system. Its there for you to make use of lots of moves with command inputs that it almost feels like a fighting game. Any of Clives skills would look like it would need multiple command inputs on a DMC game so it definitely is "easier" as big flashy moves are mapped to one button while still being deep enough to be rewarding for long combo videos like the one shown above. I would liken it more to Dragons Dogma, also helmed by Suzuki, also brilliant.

I do sometimes struggle with perfect dodges and parries. The input has to be done before the animation not during. Hard to unlearn years of action games teaching me the opposite.
I found the boss encounters so far truely amazing. Huge variety of attacks, phases, fair tracking, counters etc. I hope they add a boss rush mode can definitely see myself trying to no hit certain fights.

That big knight boss fight at the end of the prologue brought that home. The right window seems to be during the little windup animation before they actually start the attack movement. Any later and you get hit regardless.

This made me miss a day of work!
For some reason, my brain completely invented the fact that I'd booked today off so I could stay up playing this. Found out at 15:00 that people had been chasing me all day.
If anyone can suggest any bullshit as to why I missed 6 hours of emails and Teams "where are you" messages that would be great

The parries I’m not so sure on, since I only seem to execute them on accident. My instincts are to dodge, so I’m not even going for the parry attempt.

Parries are too high risk for me, would much rather dodge. Gets me hit a bit from some big sweeps though.

Players of this game, what the general feeling so far? I am a Final Fantasy dude, but as I dont have one of those shiny new consoles, I must live vicariously through you.
From what I've read on here so far, it seems pretty different game. As a relic from the past constantly yelling about how great FF6,7 and 8 are, how are FF traditionalists taking to it? Does it feel like Final Fantasy?

It feels different. I wouldn’t call myself a traditionalist per se. I tend to accept and enjoy that the series reinvents itself with each new entry, and I don’t miss turn based combat or anything of the sort. But this does feel different. I don’t think I’ve logged on as many hours as most in this thread so it could change as I get further into it, but the game is exceedingly linear, even compared to entries like FFX and XIII. It’s bits of story, walking around a hub and talking to people, then choosing a location on a map, walk through a linear location and battle for a few minutes, then more story and hubwork.
The story’s interesting, the combat’s great, but it’s paced sort of like The Last of Us, where it’s more of a television show with occasional gameplay.
It’s high quality stuff, but I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.

Thanks, it does look pretty different, even in a series that likes to change things up. I do miss the days of the turn based systems and wonky 3D, but I'm okay with a more action focused game too, so I guess I'll see if I can run it on my PC when it eventually gets here.

I still can't get over the fact that people like XV when you needed to see a movie, an anime series and 4 DLC's in order to tell a somewhat cohesive story within the game.

I'm not a FF person which is probably why I like this one so much. It has great combat and incredible action scenes and cut scenes.

I'm about as devout a 'Final Fantasy should always be turn based, have a traditional world map and a couple of slapstick guys called Biggs and Wedge somewhere in it' person as you can get. I also usually hate DMC type games and I still somehow think this has been an absolutely brilliant pivot for the series.
It's been obvious they've been wanting Final Fantasy to be like this since as far back as X-2, and now they've finally abandoned the halfway house stuff they insisted upon for so long after that it makes me wish they'd pulled the trigger a lot sooner and avoided games like XIII, that practically played themselves.
I still hope somewhere along the way they find time to go back to their roots but if the mainline games are going to be of this quality going forward I can't really grumble.
