Didn't get my Day 3 in this morning because I bloody well slept in. Will need to do it after work. This is a good start...

This week I’ve got windows open for four runs.
So far got two 37 minute 6ks under my belt and another planned for tomorrow. Going to go longer on Friday because I have a later start.
Doing before work runs feels so sluggish even with respectable (for me) times.

Day 4 done and dusted, 5.6k. if football doesn't go ahead tomorrow I really won't fancy a run.

Day 4 for me done. Sitting on 24K so far. Thought it would be worse as I don't normally go in the morning if I've been out the evening before but I feel good. Think I'll really start to notice the cumulative effects in a few days when I run over the days I would normally rest.

Miserable weather outside this morning so I did day 5 on the treadmill. I think the calibration is a bit off - took me 32 min and was an absolute killer.

Nasty.
Did my first 10k in yonks today. I also swallowed a fly too, but on a smaller scale and i spat it out after locating it.
It wasn't one you could chew on like yours! 😀

I had to kind of crush it at the back of my throat as it got stuck there. It's pretty high up on the most disgusting things I've ever done chart.
I'm having a lot of wine now so tomorrow's run will be fun.

You'll need all the alcohol to sterilise the throat after eating that manky fly!

That's my reasoning. It was either this or fire! Midges are one thing but this was utterly minging.

Day 6 was a hard slog. From my last run streak I think it starts getting easier around day 10.

I didn't get out for day 6. Football on day 5 was a real slog that I needed at least 24 hours rest

Day 6 done. A 10K in some right shitty humidity so it felt like I was half way up a dogs arse. At least I didn't have a mid run snack this time.

Just had a good day 7 with another 5k PB - 24:57. That's awesome! Congratulations! I went for a very slow 8km run yesterday, (52 mins) normally do 10 in an hour. Think I'm putting on too much weight again, need to cut back on the junk!

Recovery question
I’m getting one of my big toenails removed as part of treatment for an old five-a-side injury. Nurse said it’d be up to me to know how recovered I felt to start doing sports again but to allow 4-6 weeks for running minimum.
Anyone else had it done?

Nanocrystal nice one on the PB. Day 7 done. Meant to do a bit less but ended up doing 9K and it was bloody warm again. My boy has been with me on his bike the last few runs so he kept me going a decent pace. But lordy I'm hot now.

8k in 48minutes today which is fairly respectable but it was a very uneven run. Lots of fast segments broken up by or making up for being stuck behind families and dog walkers who were filling usually empty paths.

Day 8. 7.5k.
My pace is starting to flag. Down to 7m 30 a mile but I have to say I'm starting to really enjoy this. Its actually making me want to run even more.

I was looking at a event earlier that I think I’d be capable of and enjoy running around Kielder Forest.
Its only a month after I get my toe done though and at the very earliest that the nurse said I might be good to go on it. I guess I could tape it up. Or leave it a year.
I’m only really in it for myself and because the route looks fun not interested in racing anyone else.

I'd get running on it as soon as you can - what did the nurse say would happen if you run on it too early ? If you tape it up maybe have a look at Leukotape and Benzoin Tincture to make sure it sticks properly. You could also try those Ininji socks to stop the rubbing.

Wunty you nutter it was supposed to be 5k a day. I did fully intend to do that, but I keep appending little bits on to the route! Like I say though it's having a very positive effect at the moment and I'm actually enjoying it more than I have done for a while.

Just got a mileage warning on my shoes so just placed an order online for more. Last 6 years or so I've gone through about 12 pairs of shoes. That's nuts. Really puts into perspective how much I've integrated running into my life. I genuinely don't know how I'd cope without it. Not just physical, it's mental benefits are huge.
I used to use Brooks Vapour, then switched to Adrenaline but I fancy a change so taken a chance on the Bedlam 3s instead. Still a support for over pronation but quite different in a lot of respects, so I'm quite curious to see if they have a positive or negative effect.

Are intervals the best way to get faster?

Intervals & hill training amongst other things. Not sure as I don't really bother with that tbh. I've kind of reached the point where shorter runs aren't going to get faster than 6min 50s per mile (4m 16s per km) on a very good day and longer runs will be in the region of 7min 30 - 7min 40 (4m 50s per km). Which is fine. I didn't particularly do anything to build up to that other than just keeping to a routine with running. I did used to mix up some hill runs which probably helped but it wasn't a conscious thing.
