Done. Slightly disappointed, 4hrs 46m. First half was fine, second half was murderous. Never doing that again ever. The atmosphere is great and everything but I did not enjoy the running at all Nothing to be disappointed about. You went out there and did it. Well done man. Well done.

I did my first ever half marathon yesterday. Pushed hard to try to get under 2hr but didn't quite make it. I did however set a 10k PB on the way. That experience tells me that pete is a hero for getting round a full marathon.

Awesome work from both of you.
I always think just getting out there and doing what you can is what’s important and how you can call it a success.

What’s the point of Park Run? I’m walking past one now (having already run to the gym earlier this morning). I don’t really get it. I’d MUCH rather run by myself

I'm the same, but know plenty of people who much prefer running with others. Crowd gives them a boost. Guess it's the same as being cheered on at a marathon, football match etc.

It's like a little race every Saturday. Also the social aspect of seeing the regulars.

Folk i know who do them enjoy the 'community' feel without the pressure of a race event. It also makes them go & do it every week.
I don't know many more driven/athletic folk who do them. Most feel 5k is too low distance-wise, but some use them as a gentle recovery run.
Horses for courses i think. I've never done one, so can't give first hand knowledge!

I’ve got a few friends who absolutely love it mainly for the social aspect but its not for me. I generally prefer running alone and in the countryside so ParkRun for me would mean a longer commute than actual run-time to run somewhere I’d consider less interesting than I can at home surrounded by people when I don’t want to be.
But then they don’t want to struggle up muddy hills and sink into tractor tracks and that’s fine too.
They’re all significantly fitter than me too I reckon.

Yeah there's a park run beside where my boy does his rowing. I quite often use that two hours to do a nice long distance run by myself. I look over as I pass and it really doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. it's pretty much the antithesis of why I run. Too many people near by, having to watch your pace and constantly manoeuvre around people, end up doing a low distance in double the time and worst of all, actually having to be social.
No thanks.

I met a chap who with his partner did an A to Z of park runs based on location. Z was really difficult and they ended up going to some random little village in Poland to do it! That sounded fun.

I’ve done my local ally pally one a few times, along with a few friends. I wouldn’t go out of my way for one but it’s good fun doing a pressure free timed event once in a while

After sneering at those losers in ParkRun yesterday I did a trail race today and the only person in the entire event to finish behind me was in the Over 70s category.
I’m still pretty pleased with 10 miles in just over 2 hours but the winner did finish in under an hour and there were a lot of proper clubs in attendance.

Been back running lately, I got some new Adidas Boston 10 earlier in the year after being very happy in Boston 8 and 9s over the last few years. The 10s are completely different and I’m getting a duck load of lower leg pain, I think the massive sole padding is making me heel strike. Why do they do this? There’s not really anything in their lineup that looks like it’ll be the same as the old shoes I got on well with, have to find another brand that suits me now

Would recommend Running Shoe Guru or Run Repeat to see what folks think is similar. I doubt you’re alone!

Personally i used to like mizuno wave riders, but can't find them locally to try on any more.
Went off ascics & don't like nike. Currently in some brooks & really like those.
Recomededed for a try.

Gone for some adizero adios 6 which were on offer and I can be fairly sure will fit right. Some reviews said they were a bit like the old bostons so we’ll see

Brooks have been my go to for years. Currently on my 10th pair of adrenalines and just never see any reason to change unless they fuck about with them too much.

The adios 7s turned up, oh my god they feel so much better, no squidgy bollocks and I can tighten the laces enough without buckling the upper. And they look like a shoe you’re supposed to run in, rather than a platform shoe. Can’t wait to try them tomorrow. how can these both be size 10 with the lacing so different?

Much much better, first run and my gait was completely different, no lower leg pain. Shame the upper isn’t as comfortable as the bostons were but I think I can live with these

Final total for last year was 1000.6km according to Strava.
Although thats with two lengthy periods of inactivity and me pretty much just forcing myself to crawl out for a final run of the year to make the milestone.
Work and life have definitely been working against me having any free time recently but hopefully I’ll get back in the groove once my son is back at nursery. He’s termtime only and if he’s at home I’m not running.

Hmmm. So I was thinking of entering the half marathon that is scheduled to take place next weekend. I went through the booking thing a few weeks back but never completed it, changing my mind and deciding not to.
Which makes it rather odd I got my entry number through the post yesterday.
Shit.
I don't want to do it but this must be a sign. Done fuck all training so the question is: Can I get up to speed in a week and a half?
I did actually run a half disance three or four weeks back for the lols and it was alright but a race is completely different.
Dunno.

Why does an official HM have to be a 'race'? Just trundle round.

I don't race as such, but I always end up running faster at these things purely by way of the extra ADRENALINES and proximity to so many other runners. There's also that annoying thing with me where if I do it, I'll expect to match my previous times regardless or I'll feel like shit, but may cripple myself doing so this time.

Well. Done. 1hr 43.
I’m actually over the moon. Been three years since I did anything like this and was surprisingly nervous beforehand. Great fun overall apart from the times I was questioning my life or wanted to burst into tears.

1h43m is none too shabby!
Running the St Albans half marathon in June with my cousin. At the risk of sounding like an elitist prick my cousin isn't much of a runner and that distance is nothing new for me so it's going be a slow one, but I'm there for moral support more than anything, he didn't want to run by himself.
Feels odd paying £40 for the privilege and not giving it my all, although I feel like a bit of ponce for saying that!

Running with people is so much more fun. Joined a club run this morning and did a fairly quick 11k without breaking a sweat. Recently I've only been doing 6/7k solo.
Plus the beer social at the end.

Beer social? Very civilised.
Man, we had a works run group for a bit, but there was never beer on the cards.
Admittedly, most of us had to drive home after!

This year’s running has been very disrupted but I feel like I’m hitting a decent groove again. Looking for decent events using all the sites everyone tells me to and I’ve found a few interesting looking ones - then I check instagram and its lit up with people sharing photos from perfect looking events on my doorstep that have happened without me having ever heard of them.
Or they’re running club exclusive which is a real bummer because no way am I joining one
