Rocket from Kane.
Finland keeper had made a lot of good saves.

Amazing piece of commentary earlier... "Rico Lewis' only England cap came on his debut!" Er yeah, that sounds about right.
Cracking goal by Kane though.

Couple of nice goals by Kane. Like the look of Gomes. He’s tiny though!

And we've struggled against Finland in recent games. Looked very comfortable tonight.

Sigh, that Greece game last night was yet another low point for the national team. So deflating in the stadium. We're begging for this team to give us some something to cheer but they just never do.
At half time it was pretty positive; doing well, looking relatively well structured, new shape which appeared more effective and looking much more likely to be the team to go on and win the game. This against a team who completely outplayed us in the recent encounters and then bam, complete dereliction of the basics and concede another long range goal. We then lose all momentum and concede again in the last ten minutes due to yet another really poor individual error.
Greece were honestly really poor and they still managed to beat us 2 nil. I don't know where the team goes from here but unless this new manager wins all of his remaining Nations league games (bar England) I don't see how this campaign is anything other than another complete and utter failure.
It's tough out here at the minute.

I can't say I had any big hopes for this campaign in the first place. It seems a bit much of an ask to require every game to be won. We should be maybe aiming at any game first. It's been a while since we beat anyone higher than Gibraltar. Take out the Scotland win and there are no impressive* wins in 4 years or more. This campaign will be about finding out a way of playing and gaining some confidence from somewhere (performances, wins, whatever).
* Greece and Finland's level counts as impressive these days

Re England, its nice to see the depth we have. When Foden, Bellingham et al are not available we have players like Grealish, Gomes, Gordon, Madueke, Colwill, Lewis who can step in. I'm a little surprised Maddison didn't get in, but it shows the depth we have. It may be me not remembering correctly, but I'm sure in previous 'golden generations', when any of the first 11 were not available there was a noticeable step down in quality to the next tier. Doesn't seem to be the case any more.
If we can select the right manager, we could have a really exciting few tournaments ahead.

We absolutely have to win against Finland at home. Edit; and I was all for giving the young team time to gel but there's plenty of experience out there now and they keep losing games making the same mistakes. At some point it's not good enough.

Even during the Golden Generation England were carrying ok but not world class players like Heskey or Upson alongside the Owens, Beckhams, Lampards, Coles, Terrys and Ferdinands of the team. And they never did settle on a golden goalie really either. I think the current set-up has both more depth and a better spread of talent across the first 11.

Commentator doing everything he can to jinx Kane.. Desperately trying to make their own headlines. What a pass from Kane though. Feels like he practically assisted himself.

This is a bit of a turnaround. We need the obligatory “I only went in to the kitchen for 5 minutes…” post
