*raises hand* I've never played the original (although I can probably guess what the spoiler tag says, as the thing I assume it references comes up all the time in gaming story discussions).

It's like in FFIV when Palom and Porom petrify themselves to stop the walls of a hallway in Baron Castle from crushing the party. They petrified themselves willingly so nothing works (even though the game actually allows you to try and use items on them after the cutscene ends) They do get better Or in FFV when Galuf is so spent after his last stand vs Exdeath that reviving spells and items don't work. Sometimes plot just says "fuck you"

I think JuniorFE is replying to my post that I deleted because making spoiler tags on mobile is infuriating sometimes.
But yeah, it relates to a character whose fate cant be fixed by using in game items. Not the big spoiler though. A different spoiler.

I just think it totally makes sense that Spider-Man is crossing over into FF VII can’t believe they did not think of it before!

Some intern messed up by releasing a trailer early, confirming what we all suspected from the announcement of a FF7 Rebirth focused state of play later today, there will be a demo:

The live event just happened. If you want to go in completely blind to this then I must stress, do not watch it. While I'm sure there's more to the game and story that was shown, there was a lot shown, including what we can surmise is gonna be the end of the game.
The demo is also out now.

It’s all I ever wanted and more. There’s only a handful of games I get hyped for like when I was kid and this is one!

Top of this page I posted saying I hadn't played the original. I've since been playing it on and off on the Steam Deck (must have not been long after posting that message that I started, so it likely put the thought in my head to get that gap rectified).
I'm now just about to head to the final confrontation, so should be right ready for this launch. Seeing some of the footage from Rebirth of places I recognise from the original has me pretty hyped for this now, something I didn't have when I played Remake. Might have a slight delay in getting this though, as I probably should finish off 16 before this.

Confirmed that it ends at the Forgotten City, which means that other than the Knowlespole the entire world map is in. I'm pretty sure me predicting this is documented somewhere. I was starting to buy the rumour that it ended at the northern crater (first visit) but I'm neither surprised or disappointed at this. Should be a big note to end on.
I'm not proud of this but I really wish I could go back to the EG forum and gloat. At one point, part one was going to be 4 hours long, and the whole thing would be split over anything up to 10 "episodes", and you were a blinkered fanboy if you suggested otherwise. This was entirely based on the Midgar section being about 4 hours long in the original and extrapolating from that, without applying any common sense apparently.
Anyway for better or worse this is looking to justify the three parter approach. It's true that part one had padding and pacing issues, but there's no denying that this is likely a huge game. Stacking it with part one and presumably what is at least as meaty a part three, it would be almost too overwhelming to even play, let alone develop and release the thing. Which I guess is what Square have been saying about a potential modern day remake for over 20 years

I think I've decided not to play the demo. I can wait a little longer.
I really can't predict what they're going to do with the... climax

I was starting to buy the rumour that it ended at the northern crater (first visit) but I'm neither surprised or disappointed at this. Should be a big note to end on. It makes sense as a place to end as well, since parts of the World Map change once you return from the northern continent, so making those changes all exclusive to game 3 is rational.
Really looking forward to this. Taken a bit of time off work to enjoy it, which after a busy January and February will be well deserved.

Haven't watched the live event or played the demo. Hopefully will go in blind. Feel the game may come a little too soon for me. Been playing Red Dead Redemption 2 since early December, and just only reached the epilogue. Don't really want to finish one sprawling epic and go head first into another.... but... the temptation will be too large methinks.

I enjoyed the demo, will probably pick it up (definitely nothing to do with the fancy new monitor I've got due to arrive the day before release either!). It does feel like Kazuhiro Yamaji's following me around though - he's a major voice in Ys X, Infinite Wealth, Granblue and now this.

Started the demo, got up to the part in Tifa's house with the piano...and went on a 45 min tangent teaching myself how to play The Simpsons theme song on it. And I wonder why it takes me a while to get through games.

Demo was good - although as an opening to the game, I felt it lacked a little of the punch the Bombing Mission had. I know it's an apples and oranges comparison, but I thought they might edit the flashback down a touch to keep the pace high. As it was, I don't think they skipped a single beat of the original. I thought some of the sections of mountain path were a little drawn out, which didn't help.
I'm going to have to relearn how to Cloud - my default in Remake was to be prepared to parry-counter with R1 at any moment, but I kept accidentally triggering the synergy stuff at the wrong moment instead.

Ass temps be crankin. Part 1 was a joy apart from the padding, but very excited to explore the world.

I can't get excited for this, though not having a PS5 means I don't really need to worry about it at the moment anyway. But part 1 was so bloated with so few of the changes/additions to the story actually being good. I didn't mind the fate stuff and would be interested to see where that goes, but the rest just felt like bad fanfiction for the most part.
Saw a couple of clips of combat gameplay which reminded me how bad that was too. Every fight being so drawn out chipping away at health until triggering a stagger. Over and over and over again...
Still, at least Roche died on the way back to his home planet.

The last one was a bit underwhelming, but then I never played the original so didn't really have an attachment to it other than wishing the combat was more like what I'd seen of the original. I didn't have a point of reference, but taken as it's own game it didn't seem all that padded out. It only took me 35ish hours to beat and I did a fair whack of the side content.
I'll probably just wait for this to drop on PS+ and check it out then. I'm more likely to drop money on Stellar Blade if it reviews well.
£70 puts a stop to any release date hype trains for me... I've got a mental block on anything over £50

My view is I'm happy for those who are excited, and not everything needs to be for me. I'm loathe to rag on something people are enjoying, but there is a disconnect between the fandom and my own feelings.
Saw a lot of people really hyped that some character from Crisis Core appeared and I had no idea who she was.
So it's not for me. But I'm glad others are excited 🙂
