It's a decent opportunity to broach the subject of things not being around forever. He should embrace it as an opportunity to give a life lesson đ
His 3 year old sat in tears as he gently explains that eventually everything dies and the world is shit.

Is my Twitter playing up, or does that Dexerto tweet not even link to an article to back up the claim?
Anyway Iâd hardly say Jeff âcalled outâ Nintendo, he was obviously frustrated but he of all people understands that theyâre not going to keep paying for legacy online servers forever. And I bet the number of people still going online for 3DS Animal Crossing is trivial compared to Animal Crossing on Switch. (Even though, as Jeff said, 3DS is the better game).
Itâs just another sad example of how nothing online is forever, and weâre all going to lose media weâve loved unless we have a better approach to archiving or allowing people to do their own instanced versions as passion projects.

Sticking this here for lack of a general gaming media/youtube thread
Luke Westerway is leaving Oxtra tomorrow. His solo channel has launched with a stream of Dark Souls so heâs not made a hard departure content-wise yet.
I know its a second revenue stream and thatâs a plus but since theyâre not even dropping any hints of replacing him yet I do wonder what Oxtra will be without Luke and Ellenâs chemistry. Thereâs already a huge crossover with Oxbox so presumably thatâll only increase if Ellen has to fly solo for a bit.

I mourn for Show of the Weekend- that was the best and most original thing on that channel.

Change the x.com to twitter.com and it'll embed. Which is still rather funny considering Musk has retired that domain other than as a redirect. What isn't funny is the huge amount of people that probably won't have jobs for much longer.

Cutting staff at RPS and EG already too.
RIP EG I guess.

I couldn't see anything re departures at EG, and I don't use Twitter - any word on who might be leaving?
Shitty news for all concerned, regardless.

Eurogamer's quality definitely took a hit from being owned by Reed-pop but the reviews and in-depth articles are still good reads. I guess IGN is gaming news now, shame as they always feel like they lean on the sycophantic side when trying to walk the tightrope of the games journalism-publisher relationship.

x.com/ethangach/status/1792945062151594281Misread a bit but the implication is cuts at EG too. EG's news is absolute dogshit and is seemingly written without actually researching the topic first and continually results in basic factual errors. But the features and reviews and stuff I think have still been among the best for ages.

Bit worried for VG247, I donât read much on any of these sites (even EG these days), but I like the VG247 âBest games everâ podcast more than any audio output any of the others have done.

Whatâs even in this for IGN beyond being able to shutdown competitors who were probably nothing more than bugs on its windscreen anyway?

Oh wow. The quality was very up and down but that's a damn shame to be bought by the most generic inoffensive game related site going. IGN are like the Big Bang Theory of gaming sites.

There is also an insidious irony to a collection of gaming sites suffering the same fate as the gaming industry.

I thought Digital Foundry were independently funded. From what I remember of a DF Direct Rich did say they're unaffected by the Reed Pop business as their money comes independently from YouTube and Patreon. They have connections with EG but nothing where IGN could get anything out of it.

Yeah, John Linneman just confirmed they're not affected. They have a partnership, nothing else.

I sort of feel they might end up folding RPS into EG. I don't see them keeping this many relatively niche sites going (certainly niche from the POV of IGN).

So what non-American gaming sites are there left? Not that there were loads to start with.

Doesn't bode well for FG. Font Geek is being sold to GlaxoSmithKline and will be repositioned in the market as an indigestion remedy

Ah well that's RPS truly fucked then. I mean I kinda just want to read Kieron, Ross, John and Tim doing PC Gamer from the late 90s, but that's just a sign of my age.

I don't really get the point of companies owning multiple sites that basically do the same thing. From a reader's viewpoint it's good to have different sites, but I never even really got why EG/Reedpop had RPS and the other niche sites. It might have made sense in the days where lots of publications focused on a single platform, but these days almost everything is multiplatform anyway, and half the games websites also talk about stuff like movies and anime anyway. As an independent niche site places like RPS make sense, and I hope they don't go away, but I'm not sure why a big company would want 3+ different sites posting reviews of Hellblade 2 or games press releases.
