Is there a Silent Hill thread? Probably not, yet with this search function being as shit as it is, who knows?
Anyway, according to Christophe Gans, there's quite a bit of Silent Hill incoming:
Therefore I'm making this here thread in anticipation.

The medium was basically a tribute to SH games and that was fine.

Anything on a remake of the original? I love Silent Hill 2 but I would be very happy if they re-did the first. Anyway, all good news.

Not sure on the original. It does seem as though we're at least getting a new fully fledged game, alongside a remake of SH 2, and possibly some smaller spin off things (but that's only my interpretation). Plus Gans' film of course. I really liked his SH film as it happens. May rewatch it in fact. I would also love a remake of SH3. See if they did SH2 & 3 the same way Capcom did RE2 & 3, I would be very happy indeed.

I can't even remember which bits I remember are from SH 1 or SH 2, tbh.
The hospital and the school must be SH1, right?
Either way, I'll definitely play remakes of either. There was a PS(3? 4?) version, iirc, but you couldn't change the camera controls so it was unplayable for me.

Yeah, my memory is fuzzy too. Which one was the telephone in? SH1?
It's up there with the dogs through the windows bit in Resident Evil or the bathtub scene in Eternal Darkness.

School is SH1, hospital is pretty much a standard location for every SH (got to have some sexy nurses) and the telephone is Nightmare on Elmstreet

The nurses I remember were NOT sexy, although it's entirely possible (nay likely) that your tastes differ from mine.

I know two is the one as far as reputation goes but I’m the same. Basically all the locations and monsters that spring to mind when I think of the SH series are from SH1
Apart from the dog, obviously.

SH1 freaked me out more than SH2, although I know for many it's the other way around. But I'd never played a game like it before so it's really stuck with me. And on nurses: let's not forget Lisa GarlandPerhaps not looking her best there. I remember her being hotter.

I didn't actually play SH1 til much later - after SH2,3 & 4, so a lot of it's impact was lost on me. SH2 will always be my favourite.
I'm one of the weirdos that actually quite likes Homecoming and Downpour mind you. I maintain that Downpour - whilst not necessarily a great Silent Hill game - is a bloody effective horror game at times.

I've never actually played SH2 for whatever reason. I remember playing SH1 and pretty much shat myself the first time the siren played and everything went all dark and fucked up in the school.
Guess I was a GameCube owner for most of SH2's gen, but never got around to catching up when I finally got a PS2. The state of the remasters put me off ever trying it later on.

The remasters are not a patch on the originals but not as bad as they are made out to be. My main takeaway is the shit fog (more noticable in SH2) and a couple of minor other issues, but that's it. Played the remasters and the originals over the past couple of years and yeah, if you're only way of playing is the remasters then they are fine enough. You really should play SH2. It's still brilliant.
Reminds me. I started SH4 last year and never finished it. Time to fish out the PS2.

See weirdly I really didn't like TEW2, and I loved the first one!

Downpour was great - I remember enjoying it a lot. I'm pretty sure I've played Homecoming too but would need to check what happens in that - was that the one with big throbbing veiny things? Actually, maybe don't answer that...
And I agree with TEW2 being a Silent Hill game, certainly in terms of later Silent Hills.
Why didn't you enjoy TEW2 wunty...a case of it being too different from the first one? I loved it but couldn't get on with the first, but perhaps I gave up on it too soon.

And the music while it happens. Found it, first time I've watched in years: Man, the sound effects make me so nostalgic - the doors, the footsteps, the item pick-up sound, the pages turning in books....so good.

I really want to sit in the dark and play SH1 now. The crackling of the radio, gradually getting louder...
But it's not even on PS+. Booo.

Didn't like Homecoming at all but thought Downpour had some great ideas (sadly combat wasn't one of them). The story is easily the best of the non Team Silent games, too.
Also loved TEW2 but didn't like the first. Didn't find it all that scary but it was a blast to play.

2 (and 3+4) seems to be abandonware on PC, so might have a look at the fan enhanced edition.
