It doesn't really count but the UFO and Dog endings are pretty damn silly.

I always knew I was going to get this, but those reviews have ensured it, pre-ordered. Very excited now and looking forward to revisitng this game years after last playing it (even though I'm a big wimp these days).

Horror generally does not bother me but there's something about being invested in a world that scares the shit out of me

I just always assumed that everyone must have played Silent Hill 2. Yet there's comments everywhere from gamers that have never played it (and not just because they were too young / not born). If this means more people get to experience what is one of the most depressing / surreal / melancholy / terrifying / claustrophobic / iconic games ever in a modern format then that's just a win all round. Add me to the list of people that never played it. It did have a PC release, but I have feeling it wasn't a great port or just was never really in the general gaming conversation on that platform (no memory reading reviews of it or any real buzz, other than from the consoles, but maybe I just wasn't interested). Also maybe a little on the young-side (13-14, which is probably the right age for many for that kind of thing, but I wasn't into horror at all until a few years later). As I grew older and started hearing more widely about games I become more aware of it being a big deal, but think it was one of those things that was hard to get hold of (again, on PC). Think I did emulate the first Silent Hill game at some point. Emulation of PS2 was exceptionally ropey at the time and it wasn't a great experience. Maybe played 4 or 5 hours. Certainly didn't complete it. Looking forward to giving this a go now that it turns out to actually be good (although I'm a freak and would have been perfectly happy with a re-release of the original on GoG).

2 and 3 on ps2 were amazing looking for their time, it's amazing the things they achieved on that system.

Same, I did buy the pauper version though so will have to wait until Tues to play. I will have to put a hold on the 2 other "story" games I am playing.

I think 3 holds up the best. Especially if you got a good hdmi converter cable.

Think this is the only time I've ever gone for the deluxe version of anything. Just couldn't help myself. This is literally Dark Souls level of excitement.

I tell you what, one game I was messing about with recently is Homecoming. Despite everything it's fundamentally quite a decent game and I forgot just how good Yamaoka's soundtrack is for it. It's very much a case of throwing stuff in from past games and the film for the sake of it monster-wise but the story still works and is just as depressing as some earlier entries, even if it's delivered far more clumsily.

I might just spend the next four days watching the original E3 trailer on repeat. I did back then. I don't think a trailer ever got me so excited for a game. Yamaoka's Theme of Laura has always been one of my favourites, total banger (comes in at 1.35)

Having played The Room most recently. The combat is absolutely terrible. Sure none of them are intended to have great combat, as they are little weaklings, but it is utter arse.

The Room is the worst, I think. Apart from the PS Vita one. I have some time for Homecoming and Downpour.

Got a pre-order in for thw other half. Will watch her play through it. Nice to hear they’ve successfully added gameplay to this remake. It was practically non-existent in the original.
Whoa! Shots fired! By me!

Yeah there's no doubt that horror games in particular back then had shite gameplay. It was what everything else SH2 had going for it that made it so highly regarded over time.
In fact most horror games now have shit gameplay.
Except FEAR. FEAR was/is the fucking king.

FEAR was the fucking tits. It's weird how games have regressed somewhat in terms of destruction and shit popping off.

What's particularly nice about this reviewing well is that I can have this sitting next to the System Shock, RE4 and Dead Space remakes. Fucking amazing horror games that all look and play phenomenally. You can say what you want about the abundance of remakes, but if they are done to the quality of those games, bring them on.

Now can we get Gregory Horror Show on new consoles? Ha. I distinctly remember one of my best mates gushing about how much he'd read about it and how great it was gonna be and...he bounced off it so hard it was hilarious. A very curious game that I really couldn't get into.

I still have my copy, which is worth a fair few.

Some weird takes in here shitting on the original because of a remake (no one has played yet). Shit VA, shit gameplay
I'm guessing by 'gameplay' people mean combat. Exploration, puzzles, even the funky camera angles and actually being scared are all aspects of the gameplay. The game is scary to play, which I believe it is quite renowned for

Yeah, I'm massively hyped now, tbh. It looks really good! Would say, though, in terms of this launch trailer below, they've picked some very (VERY!) spoiler-y bits to include. Obviously a large portion of those who are going to play will be familiar with the material and the story/character development/reveals; however, given how old the original is now, there's a fair few scenes in here I wouldn't necessarily want to have seen were I diving in for the first time, etc. [NB: would avoid if you've never actually played it through, or even if it's just a bit hazy in your mind.]
