Issues are being reported on the Xbox Series X, issues regarding performance and visuals. These issues seem to be limited to Stalker 2, but they highlight a rather large issue within the console gaming space. Console gaming is supposed to be a simplified experience, however, in recent years that hasn’t been the case. Low definition games and a smooth frame rate is playable but high definition games and a choppy frame rate are intolerable. Buggy performance can ruin a game and what it sells is an experience. If that’s a bad experience players are unlikely to return. Tech4Gamers reported that this issue is very apparent in Stalker 2. Stalker 2 is reportedly plagued with choppy frame rates, poor visuals and inconsistent textures. OrfeasDourvas shared on Reddit that the gaming experience wasn’t great, despite the graphics looking just as they did in the pictures. However, it muddied up from time to time. According to OrfeasDourvas, the VRR performance improved the framerate but it wasn’t a consistent 60 FPS throughout. Locking it to 30 FPS seemed to net the best experience. The first game also struggled with issues at launch. However, that was later fixed in an update. Hopefully the same is true of the second game. gameranx.com/updates/id/517845/article/stalker-2-doesnt-run-all-that-well-on-the-xbox-series-x/Random Reddit goblins again ... Pinch of salt

When’s the embargo up, incidentally?
Edit: Yikes, 2hr before release apparently? That bodes well. Think Jambo’s expression may well be right …

And I’ve only got an S as an occasional Gamepass dipper. All this downloading and it’ll look like KnightLore.

If you squint your eyes a bit you will be able to see both frames per second.

Awesome- hopefully with all the gigabytes swapped again, just to be thorough. this is coming in so hot there'll be patches through new year. Jokes aside, I hope it's not terrible because first impressions last and even though they've had a fuck awful ride to get here the online mob can be a relentless bunch of cunts

Does make me worry about how effective quick resume is going to be around launch if they're lashing out daily patches.

My guess is that it'll be very similar to the first one. Basically a reboot. So it'll be good, but janky AF with terrible AI. But the graphics look absolutely stunning and I'm sure it'll be terrifying in the underground areas, which will elevate it into being a decent game.

Sounds like a pretty authentic Stalker experience. The original games were a mess and in many ways still are
This is one of those niche/cult games that's going to be latched onto and amplified by people for content, then forgotten about to be quietly appreciated and worked on by the PC crowd
I've foreseen it

Yeah I seem to remember playing Shadow of Chernobyl back in the day and falling through the map a few times. Bugged out missions. Fun times!

Call of Pripyat was notable back in the day for being a relatively stable game at launch after the first two attempts.
Expecting plenty of UE5 stutter on PC, shame Epic aren't all that interested in sorting out the core of their engine before bolting useless shit like Nanite on it.

It's UE5, shitting the bed technically is the default outcome.

Ok, so generally the vibe is maybe not play this for a bit yet? Shame, I have been looking forward to it for a good while.

Ok, so generally the vibe is maybe not play this for a bit yet? Shame, I have been looking forward to it for a good while. That's what I'm going to do. I get the feeling it's going to be playing a compromised version on Day 1 which spoils your enjoyment as you fight against it, there might be a save issue or a new patch that renders your save obsolete. I think a week will be a good amount of time to get feedback about its state. If you've waited a while what's a week or 2?

I remember being really stoked when the original Stalker released, so much so I plumped for the fancy edition. Thing is, I can hardly remember any bugs in the initial release - I am sure there were but it was all outweighed by the atmosphere and emergent fun I had. Apologies if pic is too big.

I'm going to a gig tonight but honestly unless it's a total unplayable disaster I'll be having it downloading while I'm out ready to play tomorrow.

I'm off work today - no, really, docs appt at 4pm and everything - but the damned thing is still not letting me download on PC gamepass via the Xbox app. I suspect it will be similar to MSFS2024 and unlock late afternoon.
