Title aside, if you actually watch SkillUp's review, you'll see that he's pretty positive about the game overall.

Yeah, think it looks pretty good actually. And at the risk of antagonizing those who have a pathological dislike of YTs, as someone mentioned above CohhCarnage is playing it atm (obviously on a beefy rig and only early game) and it looks really promising: www.youtube.com/live/FBrfIeolcB8?si=bYIUHA2Gh7sL1eRuGoing to rest on my backlog for now, though. Still going through Phantom Liberty and now Ghost of Tsushima for my explorey/open-world games atm. That's after, for some inexplicable reason, going back to 100% my old ME: Andromeda save, to delay picking up Veilguard. Too many games, man!

Awwww gawddddd. I had my fingers burned playing Cyberpunk at launch. It was still a good game, but it became a great game which I then couldn't be bothered to revisit.
I think I know the sensible thing to do here -_-

This is mainly what I wanted to hear. F5 button here I come.
"The devs have been resolute in refusing to sand down any of the series' rough edges for a new audience of potentially more casual players".

I am super intrigued to see how this is received over time as yeah it's an uncompromising game that you either submit to and get on board with or just delete and move on and I suppose when the OG came out we weren't as conditioned yet to certain expectations.

Well, reports on Xbox are that the initial install is the 150GB, immediately followed by another 130GB patch.
Think I'll wait for something stable version wise before committing.

Shader precomp is cooking my CPU at the moment. About 50% done 60sec mark so nowhere near as bad as MH:W

Off to a good start after installing. Something went wrong. Had to restart my Xbox.

No issues at all for me on Series X - but given I'm only 45 minutes I'm not going to set off the celebratory fireworks yet.
How is this for a duh! comment: it is absolutely, 100% Stalker so far in mood and gameplay. Exactly what I want given I'm in the middle of a campaign of the (excellent) board game.
It's hard. It's really hard.
The game's pretty difficult too.

Bloody hell they don’t give you much room to breath. Literally right in there and stuff jumping out at you.

This wouldn't be the case if you were downloading it for the first time today as the patches will be folded into the initial install. So it would be "just" a 140gb download.

I had planned on starting this tonight/tomorrow (series X) but think I will give it a week or two, hopefully should be more "stable" by then, I might get me fix by starting the upgraded Metro series, already enjoyed and completed basic versions on xbox upon release, I'm not expecting much in the way of upgrades but I'm sure I will enjoy all over again.

Had my arse handed to me a few times already (playing on the medium difficulty). Reckon I may dial it back for the enjoyment.
Looks quite nice - though I was surprised to see it specced the graphics at epic even with DLSS. 1440pUW with a 4070. Will see how the frame rate holds up.

Hmm I think I’m going to wait on this. Just experienced a bug of opening/closing my inventory and then couldn’t move whilst I got my arse handed to me.

Make a lot of manual saves as the game does not hold your hold even on easy, you die so much in the first section

How's performance on series X? Also How's series S if anyone has got that version?

ACG seems significantly more positive. I’ll give it a go because I love the IP so much, some jank is ok, but being frozen, loosing saves or whatever, yeah- time to wait. I flit between thinking its stunning they managed to put this together given the circumstances and, well, it costs money so can’t get a total free pass.

PC here and performance is great. No explicit engine bugs, but it did decide to spawn a Bloodsucker about half a second after the opening cutscene, which was fun. I figured the intro tutorial stuff was mostly on rails, but nope, pretty much just dumped into things.

I am farkin loving it at the moment. That opener was eerie as heck but after recently dipping into old school stalker anomaly it felt good necking some vodka, equipping the scanner and shuffling through the goop for an anomaly. That stupid beast handed my ass to me twice because I've got toggle crouch and hold to run. Anyways I got it the next go and completed the rest of the prologue. The nosey gamer in me located and cleared out 2 safes before the final cutscene ... Not a major spoiler but it bit me in the ass afterwards because after your inventory is nicked as your back to a pistol. Don't empty the safes before and you should be able to get some stuff after. Now in the open world and have been given 2 quests to head somewhere but there on my PDA is a stash ... must loot cos I only have a pistol .. another monster like earlier and it ate me up. I've pushed on and came across 3 bandits unloading on a building. They killed me twice so I thought it was a teaching moment, basically you don't always need to engage. Force is too great though, so I crawled up into the top of a shack opposite and snipes one in the head while the other creeped around goading me. Bang bang! Dead. Yes baby. Loving it. It's hard as fuck and I love it

had bug where if I reload a save, my weapon was unequipped and have to select from the wheel and its bit sluggish for the weapon wheel to pop up
1 hour in and its good so far, unforgiving combat as the AI has aim bot like shooting

Booted it up, played for about 10 mins. Looks nice - getting about 80fps on Epic graphics settings - but the broken controller support means I actually can’t play it yet. I’m just not keyboard savvy enough anymore to manage combat when I need to do more than one thing at once.

Played the first section and hit the open world, everything I wanted for the sequel. It's fucking great
Had a panicky fight around a downed helicopter, random mutant pig and a couple of bandits, radiation, bleeding everywhere, grenades trying to flush me out, bullets pinging metal and accidently drinking vodka in the middle of a firefight. Just perfect.

Metro 2033 Redux has a new gameplay mode that makes it more action, closer to Last Light. I might have to look into that too, as I remember finding the original a bit too tight. I did enjoy Exodus, so maybe it's time to try the Redux games.

How much is playing the other games important? I got them all in a bundle ages ago but never actually played them.

No idea if it's important for the sequel, but I'd suggest giving at least Call of Pripyat a look. It's more modern than the first game, a bit more approachable, and the main quest is better overall. For atmosphere, I think Stalker 1 is still absolutely brilliant, but it can be unforgiving indeed, especially at the beginning. Although, if you play cautiously, planning routes and choosing your battles, you might find it's not really all that hard.

Hmmm, that's a tough one there is literally no story link as tbh story was always right in the backseat. I think it's just best to be aware that it's a different kind of game where things break, status effects to deal with but not excessive. I think you'll be fine.
