Future Press will be reprinting their lovely "Dark Souls Trilogy Compendium" book soon. I've seen first editions go for silly money on ebay (£400+) so definitely worth picking up if you missed out first time round www.future-press.com/25th-anniversary-reprint/FUCK YES! I knew they were considering a reprint of it, so bloody chuffed. It was one of the options they wanted people to vote on (of course I did). Looks like one of the other ones that was up for consideration is getting a reprint as well. My money is on Bloodborne. It does devalue my own copies of course but hey ho. Never planning on selling anyway.
I was that much of a sad bastard that I used to email FP regularly hassling them to see if they would reconsider reprinting it as well. So annoyed I missed out on it first time around.

Yay! I'm hoping the other reprint is the Bloodborne Old Hunters one as that's the only one of their Soulsborne guides I'm missing

I had the hardback DS1 version and stupidly gave it to the Isabel Hospice in town when they patched all the weapon stats out of date
I bet some bastard made a few quid on that

I’ve got a used copy and a brand new sealed so when I saw the posts above I checked ebay Brand new ones sell for £20 to £25 I remember it going for much more in the past

Good fucking lord the healing speed in DS2 is indefensible
(So is the poise system, but that would be bearable if you could at least heal a bit faster than an arthritic three-legged turtle...)

There's a stat that increases the speed of some animations and I think healing is one of them. Also gives you more I-frames on dodges IIRC. I don't remember exactly how it works, so I'd recommend looking it up.
It's a dumb design that makes the start of the game unreasonably hard, because you're both slow and have low stamina, and I don't even think there's an option for a good shield from the start.

Adaptability, yeah. Thing is, I already knew about it, focused on it starting out, and have supposedly reached one if the recommended early breakpoints (90 agility)... Doesn't seem to have made much of a difference tbh, and I still have to level Vigor for HP, Endurance both for stamina and poise (Endurance and Adaptability both affect poise, and you have to level them equally to see any meaningful difference), at least one damage stat, would have to level Vitality too if I didn't know about the Aurous armour set...
It's just unreasonably slow compared to every other game in the series, and considering the nonexistent difference between whatever agility I had starting out and 90 now, I don't see it getting any better at the lategame recommendations of 100-105 agility either...
(although if we're being honest I wasn't seriously planning on playing it, it was just an experiment for shits and giggles)

JuniorFE Ah, thought you were just starting out. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff that feels clumsy and awkward for no reason, and the stats are a mess.

Never found it an issue, and I play no shield. Looking for opportunities to heal is part of the game. A lot of the DS2 bosses are a push over anyway

Looking for opportunities to heal is part of the game. Yeah, but in the rest of the series said opportunities don't have to be 5+ seconds (counting the time it takes for your HP to actually come back, because that part is also slower here even with Estus for some reason) and you (usually) don't get staggered by something breathing at you funny

You do also get life gems or whatever they're called in DS2
I do remember bichii complaining about the slow estus, so it must be a thing, just never noticed it myself

Either way it's slow AF, and even more noticeable coming from newer games like Elden Ring, Wo Long or the Niohs where it's almost instant

Was just reading this back, and reminiscing about the one time I actually got gud with a From game (DS3). Still wondering how I beat some of the bosses (Champion Gundyr, for example - I think I beat him solo and I don’t recall him being that hard!)
OTOH, I cheesed Old Demon King by running away, shooting him with a bow, running away some more… good times. Dragonslayer Armour, I summoned a dude who kicked his arse in about 30 seconds whilst I did virtually sod all. The ones which felt like the biggest achievements were Curse-Rotted Greatwood (because it was the first time I felt I had beaten a proper From boss by my own efforts), Alduin (totally did that one the hard way, became an expert in what he did, was my favourite one to help people with after) and Nameless King (my summoned guy died and I had to finish him off by myself).

There's a Dark Souls 2 thread you know. It's more deserving of it's own thread. You can increase the chugging speed slightly with the ADP stat but yeah, it's REALLY slow. Then again it's a slower paced game anyway. The last one to actually feel like Dark Souls and not some kind of Bloodborne hybrid that they chose for 3 (and followed on for Elden Ring).
