I don't think I've ever heard anyone describe an Arkane game as having poor systems and gameplay. But here we are!
I sort of agree that the combat can get tiresome sometimes, which is why (particularly towards the end) I avoided it as much as I could. But it's not an especially long game, so it didn't really impact my enjoyment.
It wasn't their best game, but an easy 8/10 for me.

I fight everything I see but it’s quite repetitive as I just gloo them, then either wrench or shoot them
The ideas are good just badly executed. Yesterday I went back to the lobby in the main lift and saw a Nightmare for the first time. Didn’t actually exit the lift as it was sort of half in half out of the lift. It couldn’t hurt me but I couldn’t move either, had to reload and lose a load of progress
That’s the type of thing that has happened often. It just takes all the enjoyment away

That weapon in corridors is by design though. You’ve got to use pointy ones sometimes Sometimes weapons bounce off walls like they're suppose to, sometimes they don't. It's common to be attacked through walls as well and be able to hit/kill enemies through them. Also frame pacing in Bloodborne, poor PC ports, the final third of DS1, boss difficulty is all over the place and I sometimes wonder if they were even tested. Characters didn't even move their mouths when they spoke until Sekiro
They're quite messy, unpolished games. I just think the core games are designed so well that you can overlook all the flaws. They're definitely there though
Isn't poise in DS3 broken and was never fixed? Weapons degrading twice as quickly because of the jump to 60fps in DS2 (I'm sure that's a thing)

I didn't like prey very much either retro. It's an interesting world but the combat is pretty shit and the enemies aren't great either.

At some point I should post that video I (think I) have with the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in Leyndell grabbing me through the wall of the room I was praying for my life in strategizing in, chewing me up and spitting me out back through that wall and into the room...

All your points definitely stand Aunt Alison, especially this one!

I mostly just upgraded the various guns and went with those. Drew Phantoms by setting up turrets and then ambushed them with the shotgun, which worked quite reliably. I think Technopaths are what gave me the most trouble overall.

I’m just upgrading all the “human” abilities, not touched the alien ones at all
Not sure how far I’m in but I’ve got so much stuff I’m continually backtracking to find a recycler. I hardly seem to use any of it - I only just realised a day or so ago that amongst the junk I’ve collected a stack of suit repair kits, so I’ve got about 30 of those along with 30 odd medikits
With those Techopaths I’ve been using the Nullwave transmitter, which is quite funny as it sort of runs away when you use it. Leading to a frantic chase, shooting it in the back

Poise in DS3 is working as intended.
Apparently.
If that's the case they designed it to be a bag of shit deliberately. It's fucking crap in DS3, and as much as I love that game, it plays like a Bloodborne hybrid. I miss the poise, and also the ability to upgrade armour that you had in DS1 & DS2.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone describe an Arkane game as having poor systems and gameplay. But here we are! You've not been paying attention then, plenty of people find the likes of Dishonored unplayable because of the input lag. Not me personally, but that's a common complaint.

Yeah, Decks springs to mind as recently saying he really bounced off them due to the input lag. It's mentioned quite often. Not been particularly susceptible to it myself to the extent it's put me off playing their stuff, but going back to any of the games I'm aware it's there.

Weird. Never really been an issue for me, but it sucks that others have had that kind of experience!

Skimming those comments is definitely putting me off giving it a go. Shouldn't be much of a surprise I suppose, considering I quite enjoyed Rick & Morty until encountering what the fans were like.

It's weird how a fanbase can sour your enjoyment of something - I know it shouldn't but the honest answer is that it can and does, for me anyway.

I've somehow been blissfully ignorant of the R&M fanbase all along outside of a few references on Reddit, which sounds like a lucky escape. Didn't even realise it was as huge as it is until the news about HoL broke yesterday.

And I think I just forgot about the Nullwave transmitters for the most part.
It seemed like a difficult game early on, but once weapon upgrades came into play and I started to understand the game better, it became progressively easier, though with some spikes here and there.

By ignoring Typhon upgrades you're cutting yourselves off from a lot of the fun and versatility the game has to offer. Both of you, straight to the brig.

Elden Ring is like £35 or something in the PSN January sale if you can’t wait for its inevitable move to PS+/Gamepass

I feel like that's the kinda game never to appear on Gamepass and the like. Has a Souls game other than Bloodborne because it's Sony ever been on a subscription?

Dark Souls 3 is still ÂŁ35 in the Xbox sale which I thought was weirdly expensive

Good thing about DS2 is that it's always cheap because everyone thinks it's shit

It's always been a bit of an issue with these immersive sims. You can usually play the game in several ways, and it's easy to miss the most fun way.

Rock Paper Shotgun has a Goty list that contains a few games I hadn't heard about at all. May be interesting for some of you.

I only just learnt from watching their end of year list videos that James Stephanie Stirling wrote for Vampire Survivors. I’ve not played it but it doesn’t look a particularly lore heavy game.

Their advent calendar often generates a bunch of arguing when they miss off some big games, but I always find it really useful for discovering a bunch of new games.
