It's barely a souls game if only for the bonfire mechanic with how enemies RESPAWN.

I think the 30fps mode would make me poorly so I only tried it briefly. This isn't a soulslike game though is it?. It's pretty much a cakewalk except for one or maybe 2 boss spikes. I've never really played a souls game mind you as you have to be online so it doesn't fit with my 'quick go' gaming schedule You don't have to be online for Souls games though, do you? I specifically remember DadFE playing through at least the first couple ones offline to prevent invasions or something (we didn't know the mechanics of invasions at the time)... And to prevent world tendency screwage in Demon's

I think the combat in this game is pretty Souls-like. Waves of enemies can fuck you up if they choose to gang up on you, their damage is pretty high, and they can also attack you from off screen. Bosses on the other hand, haven't given me any trouble so far, except for Rayvis' second form. Then again, maybe I'm just really bad at parrying.

So now I've got to the point where Bode betrays you and then Cere is killed by Darth Vader. The impact of these plot twists is diminished by the fact that I wish the game would just end already. Most of the story so far has been effectively filler. I also realized I'm not even having that much fun playing. So I've lowered the difficulty down a notch and will just keep going until the game is over. I'm assuming not much is left?

I felt the same. Yeah you getting near the end if you just focus on the story.

I play all games on easy/story mode. If I had infinite time, I would play on harder difficulties. But I don't.
For me, I like a narrative based game, any barrier preventing me from moving forward with the narrative gets on my nerves. Also thinks it helps with narrative pacing to keep things as breezy as possible.

That rancor in a cave on koboh is a twat with his one hit kill move. I'm too new to this area, so guess he's for later. I now have my ship back, and have gone to the next planet, should i have stayed, or am i supposed to move on? Last game it was mostly move on, learn new shit, come back and explore areas you couldn't get to last time round, I assume this is the same? Also, despite being not long in, I'm guessing that Bode is totally going to be an empire-loving rat?

Vortex That rancor is surely a PITA early on, unless you're playing on easier difficulty. As for fully exploring a planet, I don't think any planet can be fully explored the first time you visit, so if I were you, I'd concentrate on my story objectives for the time being and revisit planets as new paths open up. Regarding your spoiler, you are not *entirely* wrong; I had the same feeling from the start, always looking over my shoulder...

I did the Rancor early doors, but I did die a lot - dodge, couple of hits, run away and repeat.
Oh and force pick up the bones and throw them at his face.

Worth fighting the Rancor early though, you get a very nice perk which is useful for the rest of the game iirc.

That Rancor was almost as much of a twat as the frog from the first game, almost.
I stubbornly persisted on both encounters mind you. Probably spent 30 minutes a piece hurling four letter words at the screen until they were dead.
I'm finally polishing this off currently, dropped it ages ago hoping for a patch to fix performance and just never go back round to it, until now.
Thoroughly enjoying myself currently.

Surprisingly the ps4 version actually looks pretty good. 720p upscaled to 1080p pretty much most of the foliage is stripped but it looks good and a locked 30fps. Interesting.

Finally getting around to playing this. For some reason, I had a free month of game pass from Nvidia that was due to expire and PC game pass gives you the EA Play thing too.
Literally just booted it up for about 20 minutes last night, so only reached the first meditation point. Looks pretty though. Also sounds like it was good timing, as a patch recently came out to further improve performance, as well as remove the Denuvo DRM. Glancing around for reports, seems like a big improvement, but still a few stutters. Seemed pretty smooth for me last night maxed out.

I just picked this up again after flicking through my backlog. I think I got burnt out with getting the platinum for Fallen Order and being thoroughly pissed off by the map, that I couldn't stomach another so soon.
Anyway I am pleasantly surprised at the improvements in the combat and some more freedom. It isn't Breath of the Jedi, but it is pretty close. Lots of.. well what is that over there moments.

I tried posting this last night, then ended up deleting it 'cause I couldn't think of a way to phrase the question that didn't seem overly snide: how's the melee combat in these games, compared to others of their ilk?
I've heard terms like 'floaty', 'imprecise', and 'lacking impact' thrown around elsewhere - fair criticisms, or not?
Respawn's first-person shooter combat in Apex and Titanfall 2 is the best I've experienced, so it'd probably be unfair to expect them to nail third-person melee combat right out of the gate; at the same time, if the swordplay in Fallen Order/Survivor is only on par with that of, say, The Witcher 3, I'd choose to give them a miss (especially as I've no attachment whatsoever to Star Wars as a franchise).

I think that's fair - I couldn't get on with it as it felt like it lacked weight and precision.
The biggest issue is that I feel like I'm wielding a glowing baseball bat, not a lightsaber. Not sure how to solve that problem though.
It's better than Witcher 3 though.

I think the 'floaty' nature is that it is supposed to be fluid, in that you are going from combat, to jumping and climbing etc.

Ulythium I'd agree with both rhaegyr and zisssou, it is kind of "floaty" but, to be honest, it didn't bother me or stopped my enjoyment. Also, isn't the lightsaber supposed to be "light" in weight as well as "generating light"? It's not a Zweihänder now, is it?

Thanks, chaps. I don't mind 'light' combat - in fact, I always go for fast-paced dex builds wherever it's an option - but 'floaty' combat is another story. I truly don't mean to keep banging this drum, but I hated combat in The Witcher 3. It just felt so... unimpactful.
Fighting in TW3 lacked any kind of heft whatsoever, be it from animations, sound effects, or the controller; as a result, I usually ended up running past enemies in the open world wherever possible, which is hardly ideal in a game based around slaying monsters!
The Jedi games look cool to me. That said, there appears to be a *lot* of combat, and as they seem to be fairly linear (Fallen Order, in particular), I'm guessing that you can't just run by most trash mobs. Hence my question, I suppose.
