Enough with the negativity (worst film evah, Pfft)
What was the best film you watched in 2022, doesn't have to have been made in 2022 Maybe you came to a film late. Maybe it was the right film at the right time for you and was particularly resonant.
Ok, its a sneaky way to get some recommended films to watch over these coming days off, the Guardians top 50 list is full of wanky shite.
So fire away, me first!
RRR
My god, this shocked me, it is pure madness but leaves most blockbusters in its wake. If the first 15 mins do not hook you then you are a little bit dead inside
The rest of the film just gets more bananas. Surrender to the madness and enjoy the (definitely not gay) bromance of it.

It's either RRR or Everything Everywhere All At Once. Both were an absolute pleasure to watch.

For me it will be between RRR and Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Both batshit crazy and both I would have probably not heard of if it hadn't been for people posting on this forum, so thanks everyone for that \o/

Probably Prey for me. I'm totally gay for predators and we finally got a good predator film again.

Not watched many this year,(only 1 released in 2022 in fact!)but,as I can pick anything, I am going to go with Planes, trains and Automobiles probably my tenth+ watch and I still love it and always will. We are watching The Northman this week, I have high hopes for that.

Yeah, everything everywhere really hit me in the feels, though in fairness I have a low blubber trigger point when watching movies.

The Northman, yeesh, my hopes were similarly high. Hope it works for you.

The scale of Dune was astounding, real epic, I need to watch it again. On the list (in pencil)

Late to the party with this one, but I saw Whiplash for the first time this year and it absolutely blew me away.
I missed out on Banshees of Inisherin but consoled myself with the phenomenal In Bruges and Three Billboards.
Need to see DUNE, might stick it on tonight before I've got the kids and my parents for 5 nights...

Can't go wrong with a McDonagh film, still to catch Banshees, high on my list needless to say.

Prey, RRR or EEAAO for me too I'd say, purely because they're so bloody memorable.

EEAAO for sure. Prey a close 2nd. I have many films lined up for when on leave, starting with The Northman on Friday night.

RRR was brilliant, that's my pick ...however, I spoke to some testers I work with who are based in India, and according to them, it's a bit uncool to like RRR. One of them suggested this film to me, which is by the same director and apparently is now on Netflix? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eega(but it's not on mine... maybe I need a VPN...)

In what was a shock result to me it was Top Gun Maverick. I only watched the original for the first time this year too so I wasn’t viewing it with nostalgic eyes. A proper blockbuster of a movie with a genuine sense of peril. Something the CGI trash movies can learn from
Honourable mentions to EEAAO and Bullet Train, very different ends of the spectrum but both great on the big screen

I know what you mean about RRR, that whole bridge scene is still burned in my brain, so visually arresting and the opening of the whole film as well, nuts.
Screw it, watching it again

RRR is probably the best film I've watched in ages. It's fucking brilliant. I want to watch it again now. It's like someone did a geefe focus group.

Gutted I missed Banshees.
I think The Lighthouse was watched this year. That was also excellent.

I've not watched many 2022 films but the best was TOP GUN MAVERICK!
I've watched a fair few bangers from other years though, the highlights being (from my 5* Letterboxd ratings):
Dunkirk Dune Casino Clueless Blow Out The Souvenir 1 + 2 King of New York Petite Maman American Psycho Running on Empty Breathless (1983) Shiva Baby Thief Hellraiser Runaway Train Menace 2 Society The Thing Licorice Pizza Bad Timing
