The reason why the US is not part of the International Criminal Court is explained by whatever the fuck that is.

Last weekend's fatal hockey accident has really brought out the worst in people, with opinionated blowhards on social media referring to the other player involved as a "murderer" and calling for him to be locked up (or, at the very least, banned from the sport for life).
On top of that, because the guy who died was white while the guy whose skate caused the injury is black, it seems to have become a minor cause célèbre for the usual alt-right racist shitlords.
That's not even taking into account the proliferation of the video footage, which always strikes me as being pretty ghoulish in these situations - I get that it's human nature to be morbidly curious to some extent or other, and I think certain people have legitimate reasons for seeking it out, but for the layman I don't see the appeal.
Just a sad situation all 'round.

That whole Hull funeral home scandal.
Were they just not burying the bodies properly? Or is there more to the story about what they were doing with the bodies that I don't want to know? I appreciate that not burying / interring ashes is horrific enough in the first place, I assume they led full, fake funeral services.

We’ve got the results back, turns out dad was 23% Irish, 46% casket and 31% lady from Cottingham.

It's a weird story and I can't understand it, also reading the article it says the funeral industry isn't formally regulated which seems like it should change. Given how bloody expensive funerals are someone keeping an eye on them would be a good idea.
Just don't be fucking useless like a lot of regulators.

A US police department is to pay $900,000 in compensation to a man they tortured a false confession from over the course of 17 hours.
• Man calls the police to report his father missing.
• Police put him in an interrogation room, told him they had evidence that he had murdered his father.
• Told him his fathers' body had been found, and was in the morgue, with evidence that the man had killed him.
• Threatened to euthanise the mans' dog as a stray if he didn't confess, even bringing the dog into the room to say goodbye and telling him that the dog had walked through the fathers' blood.
• Withheld his high blood pressure, asthma and depression medication from him.
• The man became so distraught that he started to tear out his own hair, and confessed to murdering his father.
• The father was not only not missing, but alive and well.
• But the police didn't immediately tell the man this.
• Instead, even after bringing the father to the police station, they obtained a warrant to search the mans' home for evidence of any potential "unknown victim of assault"
• The man was so distraught that he had to be confined to a psych ward after attempting to hang himself.
• After being released after a three day observation period, he had to track down his dog himself at an animal shelter using its' tracking chip.
• One of the officers involved has "retired" while another three are still with the department.

Wait, so... so they didn't think to investigate whether the guy's father was actually missing, before proceeding with interrogation?

Wait, so... so they didn't think to investigate whether the guy's father was actually missing, before proceeding with interrogation? I mean they're given just under 2 months training in some states. This is just par for the course.

Wait, so... so they didn't think to investigate whether the guy's father was actually missing, before proceeding with interrogation? That's what I can't understand. Why didn't they establish any of the facts? Why were they so sure a murder had taken place, and Perez was not only a suspect, but the murderer? Furthermore, why did they immediately launch into psychologically torturing the suspect? The officers simply weren't interested in the truth, which begs the question how many other people they've got "confessions" from. There's a good case here to make it illegal for police interrogators to intentionally lie to suspects. It's one of their primary tactics and just muddies the water.
