Had to watch Kurts live for a comparison. One word, effortless.

Just heard Gotye's Somebody that I Used to Know for the first time in years. Awful and annoying.

This was about the worst it got for me in terms of bands looking to capitalise on the My Chemical Romance/Panic at the Disco era. Nothing but posers wanting to look mysteriously sexy for 3 mins while there's some kind of music happening.

Just going to remind everyone that back in the nineties Richard Blackwood launched a music career in an attempt to be the British Will Smith.
Sample lyrics:
Say my name, baby (Ooh, we love you, RB, check you every day on MTV) Who da man (You the man, baby boo) (No matter what you do we got love for you)
Couple of years later he was getting a colonic irrigation on Channel 5.

He wouldn't have slapped Chris Rock though.

I'll nominate Coldplay, only somewhat in jest.
I'd honestly take bad music (or art of any kind) over bland music (or games, or movies, or books, etc.), and it doesn't get much blander than Chris Martin and company.

See, I wasn't a fan for a while but their new album cracked me. The track UK Grim very much appeals to me and is as good a state of the nation song I've ever heard, and DIwhy is just hilarious. "You're not DiY, you're a fucking twat You look like Fred Dibnah and your haircut's crap You're in a shouty band, you're not original, man You're like the edgy version of something shit Shouty Dibnah in an All Saints jacket You sell guitars on Facebook And you drink too much beer, sonny You do playlists for Fred Perry, you boring cunt And you shave your hair just above your ear Oh yeah, not another white bloke agro band Oh yeah, we're all the fucking same Let's not kid ourselves, man Some win and some lose the fame game I saw a doctor, I said, "Why do I feel like slapping these B&M goths All this post-punk dross?" He said, "Because they're fucking cunts, Jason Fucking hit 'em!"

DIWhy is great. Those last few lines got a proper out loud laugh from me the first time i was listening to the new album. The way he delivers them is just great.
They're decent live too. watching Andrew poke at his laptop, drink beer and 'dance' a bit while Jason does his charismatic ranty shit.
High recomeded.

I thought they were getting a little stale but this is up with the best of their output, both from Jasons lyrics and Andrews production.
If you want some more (though not entirely different) state of the nation output, check out Benefits. I'm sure they won't be everyones cup of tea, far from it unless you like noise, but caught them live a few times live and the delivery from their frontman is a sight to see (and hear).
As for worst - another vote for Coldplay for me. Clearly they are very talented, and they have had a lot of success, but it's so fucking boring.

Do you know what I've been inundated with this song of late as all the rock and metal mags fall over themselves to declare how bad it is. I gave it a listen expecting a total car crash but it's not that bad. I mean, I'm far from the target demographic for this and the lyrical content makes me want to pour bleach in my ears, but it's no worse than anything else of that ilk I've heard and don't / will never understand.

I dunno, I think it's substantially worse than a lot of things I've heard of that ilk.
Musically it's dreadful, managing to fail as a rock song and as a hip hop track. Vocally it's even worse, as somebody who likes metal music and a fair bit rap, all I can say is the vocals are inept. He manages to make Fred Durst sound like a talented and accomplished rapper.
Lyrically it's dogshit too.
I really think it is *that* bad.

Maybe I was just hyped up to hear something even worse. All that kind of shit is alien to me tbh so it all just gets filed in the same place. I think rap is one of the worst genres of music to exist anyway so there you go, particularly the modern stuff.

Going to put forward any song, ever, with heavy use of auto-tune.

Can we all agree that people gave Rebecca Black a hard time for Friday, and yet it’s probably not even in the bottom 20th percentile of shit songs?

It's the fact that he just completely gives up on any possibility of rhyming that makes it.

That is exactly what the thread deserves. Superb.
I particularly like that Natalie looks like a young suburban woman who was just walking through the park when the video was being shot, then JayJay threw his sick jacket over her shoulders and the cameras started capturing the dynamite.

ALl the talk of how shit 2000s music was reminded me of the utter, utter bollocks that was Just Jack. Stars in Their Eyes, Day I Died etc. Disappeared off the face of the Earth by the time the 2010s rolled around and yet I still feel that's not punishment enough.
And you know what, fuck what everyone says. I fucking hated The Streets.
