They’re pretty much the same. Very linear with pretty much just one way of getting through. I’m not sure anyone enjoys this. It’s bearable at best. I will agree with the golden route criticism, I was doing one where you chasing after a particular person at night in the Queens suburbs and it was very clear the game wanted you to go a particular route. I don't mind them really only because they don't seem to go on as long as they were in the OG game and you can at least fight back.

I didn't mind them, but yeah there was obviously only one way to go in each encounter unless you wanted to make it impossibly difficult. They were definitely an improvement over the first game, and felt like a nice change of pace and a chance to just soak up the graphics/moody lighting for a while without everything flying by you at 50 miles an hour. The last section was good fun too.

I've not played them in 2 yet, but I quite liked it in the first game, particularly the Grand Central one. Thought that was pretty neatly done, giving you a nice sense of partnering up with Spider-Man.
The Osborne apartment section was more linear than that, but still open enough to allow for a few different options. The museum bit was very linear and scripted, so less interesting, but still perfectly fine for the story beats.
Would say that replaying recently I didn't enjoy them as much as I remembered, but still nice to have a change of pace and to give MJ some agency.

Ironically, all the people wetting the bed about how woke these games are appear to have missed the fact that insomniac seem to feel obliged to give the only female character something to do but flubbed it and saddled her with the shittest parts of every game.

They're too focused on Mary Jane's 'ugliness' or on the console wars comparing Mary Jane's arse to some Starfield characters arse (where the arse is exaggerated through a PC mod)

Just gone through the first MJ scene and I thought it was good? Is it insta fail if you get caught like the original?
I was lucky and made it through unseen.

Nah, you can take a few hits or get back into hiding if spotted. Instafail stealth sections can get in the fucking bin!

Maybe 80% in on the story (which I am mostly concentrating on) and this is my game of the year, stunning.

I didn't mind the MJ stealth bit.
It's the "walk slowly around this area and interact with these specific objects to activate some dialogue before the game can progress" bits that fuck me off

The other annoying thing they do in this is sometimes locking you out of all other activities and fast travel when you're midway through a story mission chain that requires travelling to new location

I haven't fast travelled in this yet, you can cross the entire city in about a minute if you are good at traversal so I haven't found the need to.

I think I'll be completing this today. I'm ready to jump in and start again honestly but I'll wait for the NG+ patch dropping soon.

I've completed the main story. The narrative I thought was superb, and kept me engaged throughout. I didn't mind the MJ stealth parts, as they broke up some of the gameplay. I can't really think of too many criticisms, other than I got a little tired towards the end with the core gameplay.

My save file says I am around 50% complete, but I assume I'm more through the main story than that. I've just done the water chase that we saw in one of the pre-release showcases.
The Venom combat is really incredible (edit - Pete Venom suit powers, as opposed to Miles's electric venom powers). Narratively, we are being told how powerful Pete feels and how enticing it is. We don't really need to be told so frequently because we really feel it. Fantastic stuff.
I still struggle with parrying, like every game that features it. I still instinctively hit the dodge button when an alert pops-up, even when it is the parry-only attack.
Again, I guess it is part of the narrative, but Miles does feel a little bit sidelined. I am dipping in and out of side quests, so need to switch it to him for a lot of those (and with the narrative drive of the main quest, it feels right to do the ones that can be done by either as Miles), but he doesn't seem to feature much in the main story.

I still can’t get my head around the decision to call Miles’s powers ‘venom’ powers despite clearly plotting from day 1 for actual Venom and his powers to be thing. So weird.

I think they're already called venom powers in the comics.

Yeah, it's a comic problem. I guess they thought it was fine due to building the symbiotes out into a whole load of shit (a whole race and series of characters), and the various changes that have been made to Venom over the years.
I liked the the game takes you through every version of Venom, from the lethal protector look, to the black suit, to the symbiote suit, to Venom himself. I thought that was a cool way of building his history into the game (just out of order to the books, obviously).

It was also stupid of the comic to do it. And its not like they havent changed other stuff. Just call it a Bio-Blast or something. They love alliteration

At a complete guess, I spawned into the mission on top of but also partially inserted into a lamppost and literally got the light stuck up my arse. I had to restart the game to get rid of it.

this talk about if the running time is worth the cost, we who have played know that it is worth every single penny, speaking of which sold my copy for £45 today. I never/rarely keep games once I have completed. For those yet to play or complete you are in for a fantastic time, it is so bloody good.

I finished it last Sunday, I really enjoyed it although it did feel a bit rushed near the end but it was still very good. The price/game length argument is an interesting one but I've spent full price money on something like AC Valhalla and it bored me to tears and was so god damn long that I felt like I'd been ripped off in all honesty.

I think it's fundamentally an argument the other side will never fully understand.
I'm 'quality over quantity' and while I can see the appeal of value being measured by time I can't understand it at the expense of quality, so the argument is completely redundant in my head.

I can see the argument if you're buying something like CoD for the single player only and spending 70 quid but then you have to know what you're getting yourself into with a product like that. When I was younger I definitely judged a game quality wise, and I think many people did too, by how long it was. I think we, again , have the same younger ages repeating the same argument and as they get older their opinion will most likely change.

Still playing it now and don't see myself finishing before the weekend (although, I expect I am getting towards the final act). Don't know how many hours I've put into it, but must be over 20 now. Hasn't felt short to me at all. If anything, it might even be longer than the first game.
