What about a final Wings song?

Yeah, worrying, a much better platform for smaller artists. Most of NZ's DIY punk scene uses it.

That is worrying. I spend far too much on Bandcamp because I feel it's a better way to support artists, and I prefer to download MP3s rather than stream via Spotify.

Anthony Fantano’s take is that Songtradr is going to hollow out Bandcamp because all it wants is the ability to use the site as a content mine for its licensing business sounds depressingly likely.
I didn’t think I’d be so upset by the potential death of a website but it really is/was(?) the only market place where the kinds of artist I mostly listen to could release music online in a way that a) had any kind of audience and b) actually paid them.
I’m surprised more noise hasn’t been made about this story but I suppose Apple and Spotify have killed the idea of paying artists so who cares, just stream it, right?

Does bandcamp currently retain the rights to music on the site? Would they retain rights to the music if the artists want to take their music off it?

If bandcamp does die I'm not sure where I'll go for music. I don't use Spotify because I like having the files to download.
Annoying when connection drops whilst in train or just poor signal in general.

All paid for services enable downloads for offline. And you can pick and choose which quality etc.

But I've also got quite a collection. I don't want to just abandon it

Spotify have announced plans to start demonetising smaller artists

To be fair they barely got paid anyway so they won't notice the difference.

Recent Bandcamp and Spotify developments going for the one two punch for smaller artists there

I would say where’s Lars Ulrich and his lawyers but Metallica are probably one of the five acts who are actually big enough to get any meaningful revenue out of streaming

Current-day Pixies continue to be pretty scummy by firing Paz Lenchantin after 10 years, in a move she said came as a surprise. It probably shouldn't have been - they did the same thing to Kim Shattuck, albeit after less than six months - but it still sucks.

I love the Pixies music so much (earlier is still best, but they have churned out osme good stuff still over the recent years) but they continue to be pretty shitty people at times. Again like a lot of artists and bands, divorcing the people from the music is the only way to enjoy everything.

Trivia: I noticed the other day that the classic 'Introducing The Hardline According To Terrence Trent Darby' is now 'Introducing The Hardline According To Sananda Maitreya' on Apple Music.

Oh, speaking of Apple Music, this is very niche and couldn’t think where else to put it, Apple have finally opened up its API to DJay, so you aren’t locked in to Tidal as your only streaming option now.
So that’s nice

Saw them live a few years back (actually pre-covid, so ages ago) at the behest of a mate and quite enjoyed it.
Will certainly check their new shit out.

Vortex Nice! Have you heard any of their studio albums? If not, At Action Park and 1000 Hurts are probably the best places to start.
