Yeah, the mate passed on the 'excellent American greyhound' lp.
It was ok, but a bit brutal & obtuse if i remember rightly.
Live they had much more of a groove. I would definitely watch them again tbh, their sound has possibly mellowed with age!

"Brutal and obtuse" is Shellac in a nutshell, but there's always a sense of humour lurking just beneath the surface - despite outward appearances, they don't take themselves all that seriously

So the Black Keys:
- booked an arena tour; - charged way too much for tickets; - found out that no-one was buying them; - scrapped the entire tour without warning; - plan to re-book it at smaller venues; and - are trying to paint this debacle as a creative decision.
Just like your overpriced arena tickets, nobody's buying that explanation, guys.

Dear oh dead, but inevitable that it would come to someone. Arena prices are bonkers these days.

Arena prices are indeed crazy nowadays.
Thing is, even the fans on the band's subreddit were, like, "You're not that popular, guys" when the tour cancellation happened yesterday. There was a sense of confusion as to why an arena jaunt had been booked in the first place.

That's cool. Would love to see them reform but I think they're right, it wouldn't be the same.

Only chance I had to see them, I was in Portugal for the Euros.

One of today's headlines at the NME website: "Watch Ed Sheeran sing ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ with Limp Bizkit at Pinkpop."

I put it in the internet nuggets of joy thread but a more palatable collaboration today on CBeebies has been Idles covering one of the songs from Hey Duggee

Hope of the States have reformed. That first album was absolutely tremendous when it clicked into gear.
They were probably a little unfairly done by being lumped with a lot of post-Libertines landfill indie because of their look when their sound was really quite epic really.

Pretty decent news. I wasn't much for their second album, but the first one was great. They are very much my college 'sound' of the time. Like Forward Russia, Redjetson, Test Icicles, The Futureheads, Young Knives, Art Brut, Bloc Party, Tom Vek...

Also I always thought they were a more radio friendly GY!BE haha.

They definitely had that in them. The first track on the first album was really something for the post-rock fans.

I just remembered another band. iLiKETRAiNS. I think they were associated with them if I remember. I saw them in Lincoln in 2006 with Cooper Temple Clause!

I’m reading a book by a lecturer at Newcastle Uni about the cultural history (and future) of the north and he sprinkles bits of biographical detail in between stories of shipbuilding and that time Allan Ginsberg came to the city. Turns out he was the guitarist who started Everything Everything.
I remember them being a reasonably big deal who would’ve been a partial successor to a lot of those bands. Skipping through tracks on youtube I’m coming to realise that I don’t recognise even their sound nevermind any actual songs. Its weird having a total blank spot like that to something somewhat adjacent to other stuff I loved.

Am I the only one who couldn't give less of a shit about the rumoured Oasis reunion if he sat down and tried?
The 'news', such as it is, is everywhere today. And yeah, I sort of get it - they were a big deal at one point, even if their critical and commercial peak was almost 30 years ago now.
But seriously, does anyone care as much as the NME is trying to make out?

I’m not a fan but its been long enough since they broke up that 50% of the audience at any new shows will barely have been born when they last played. But the songs are everywhere and never really left the public consciousness.
Liam just headlined Reading and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t his latest solo material that people were there to hear.

I'd be slightly more understanding if it was an *actual* reunion, involving the guys who were around in the Definitely Maybe/What's the Story eras; however, it seems as though it's going to be the Gallagher brothers plus Noel's backing band. Moreover, both Liam and Noel have been releasing solo material at a steady rate since Oasis imploded, touring regularly, and playing Oasis' biggest hits on a nightly basis in the process - I imagine that anyone who yearns to see 'Live Forever' or 'Roll with It' played live during the past 15 years has had ample chances to do so. At least the Guns n' Roses reunion featured *three* original members! (Izzy Stradlin's absence still rankles, but that's another subject entirely.)
I realise that this entire post is squarely in 'Old man yells at cloud' territory

I'm torn. Good on him, because morrissey has become such a twat, but by god I would have loved to have seen that.

Vortex I totally get it. If it's any consolation, this wouldn't really have been a 'reunion' - Andy Rourke is dead, and Morrissey will never set foot in the same room as Mike Joyce - and The Smiths wouldn't be The Smiths with a different rhythm section.
