I just got a beta key invite for this... I've had about an hour with it, and I think it's got a lot of potential. Anyone else playing? Link to Steam pageFast-paced, 3v3v3 first person shooter with fully destructable environments. On first impressions, I'm getting TF2 vibes mixed with Apex Legends and a kind of Mirror's Edge aesthetic (with a hint of Fall Guys silliness in the costumes and such). The beta offers a mode called Cashout, where you have to grab a bunch of money, then take it to another spot to secure the dosh. It's effectively an area control variant. Perhaps a bit like Oddball in Halo? Closest I can think of right now. The demo levels feel massive, with lots of jump pads to launch across and ropes to slide up and down. But in reality, the fights are fairly contained. The space is more for legging it once you've got the bounty. The destructable environments are really cool. You can set up a little fort to defend your position and suddenly a wall explodes behind you or the floor falls in. It's awesome. Runs a beaut on my 3080 at 5120x1440. Quite impressive for a beta. Think it might be The Next Big Thing, if the F2P elements are not implemented terribly.

I think xdefiant will probably cause this to be buried.
Although if the streamers get behind this then it might do alright.

Never even heard of XDefiant (!). What a terrible name. From a quick look at some videos, it looks like CoD meets Siege or something. Quite different to Finals which shares more in common with say Apex. But yeah, such a crowded market.

I think it looks pretty good, the amount of damage and some of the mechanics like swinging around like Spider-Man looks great. I love it when people burst into coins too, it's like Scott Pilgrim 😅

It looks nice but can't see this being the next big thing in the slightest, it'll get some traction initially with streamers as they play it for a bit but as usual if it does fit in specific archetype, which I don't think it does, then it'll just die.

Gotta be honest, when I saw that thread title my mind went to a Brain Training-type game

Xdefiant has the hype behind it at the moment and ubi will market the shit out of it. They already have an army of streamers waiting for it as they are mostly pissed off with cod.

I've played about 5 hours now and it's got me pretty hooked. Got a friend coming for team game later too, so looking forward to some regular teamwork.
The destructible environments really are awesome. They massively affect the gameplay. When three teams are converging and there are grenades and explosives going off everywhere, it's pretty intense.
All of the weapons and utilities seem useful and pretty well balanced. The flashbangs are great and blowing out walls with the grenades opens up new attack options.
I got a sword this morning for my Light build and it's a lot of fun slicing through people, especially when they've run out of ammo and are pathetically jumping up and down awaiting the deathblow.
So far the Light build is my favourite. The grappling hook allows you to cover distance very quickly. It's basically like the one in Apex that the robot guy has.
The Heavy build is my least favourite. It feels very slow coming from the Light build, but in the right team it's probably very useful. I met one with a flamethrower and that did not end well.
The weather conditions on the maps make a lot of difference too. It's a lot harder to see opponents at night which suits my katana. The maps also have variants, such as a monorail which is sometimes randomly added, so you end up having to defend yourself on a moving platform whilst you cashout. That's good fun and a nice change from holing up in a building and guarding the various entrances.
It's good. Fast-paced and action packed.

Fickle bunch though. Just gotta look at Hyperscape for a Ubi dud and Halo Infinite for what was surely a safe bet but ended up being a bit of a damp squib.

Yeah but this one is actually good as well though.
Halo was excellent but lacked support and they took forever to do anything.

I heard for XDefiant they're releasing a new map every month, it's what people want continuous content. Everything lives or dies by that, also the amount of ex COD Devs making that game also has an effect and from I've everything I've read CoD has fallen quite a way off in popularity online for stuff like Warzone.

It's because warzone Devs completely ignore the playerbase and refuse to put in the movement and animation buffs the game desperately needs.
Oh and aim assist that's basically an aimbot nowadays as well.
Oh and the audio is fucking awful with regards to footsteps, someone can sprint right up behind you and kill you and you often won't hear a thing.

Open beta for this at the moment.
Tried it on Series X last night and was immediately impressed. Environmental destruction is beyond Bad Company, and there's a Mirrors Edge feel to it all.

I like everything about it other than the abilities and the game modes. It looks absolutely stunning as well.

Just tried the open beta on PS5 for the first time, I think I'm going to like this. Gunplay feels very good, the destructible environments add a great element and the customisation is fun. Shame I didn't know this was around earlier, but I think I could get sucked into this.

This is out properly now, it's absolutely brilliant and completely unhinged fun.
I'm not a massive shooter fan in recent years (possibly decade) so there may be better things out there but this has taken me straight back to Quakeword, Bad Company days.
Very simple premise, proper destruction and mayhem and game modes that can always go right to the wire.

Played a bit on the weekend and yeah, it's good.
Only downside at the minute is that it seems a bit of a trek from spawning after dying to the cash box. Think I just need to get good!
