I doubt James would have been dragged too much over the coals had we lost. I think in hindsight we recognise that the treatment Beckham got back then was way over the top. There was a lot of frustration given how clsoe the game was, but most people were just enjoying putting the boot to him because he was a pretty boy with a Spice Girl girlfriend.
(That was a big deal at the time.)

The fact Saka, Sancho and Rashford got racist abuse after missing penalties not long ago doesn't fill me with confidence James wouldn't have got the same had England lost.

She wouldn't have been the reason we lost but it was such an unnecessary and ugly thing to do. Absolutely no need. It's not like it was a reckless tackle, the Nigerian player was just flat on the deck.

And I meant advert for the game in general. I don't want to see that kind of bollocks anywhere near football, at all. Straight red, 10 game ban that applies to domestic and international football, yellow cards for approaching the ref and all that.
