There’s clearly a shut and closed case that a thread about doors, both within games and reality would benefit us all. Unlock your feelings, swing open your experiences and enter this thread without fear of rebuffal.
To begin I share my love for the light swinging khazi doors of Fallout 3. To deliver a door that swings open or closed with a noticeable lightness and audible creak so fittingly within a post apocalyptic world is both befitting and somewhat haunting. Reminiscing of a time before noticeable council funding cuts may have led to closures and thus limited public conveniences, bring both a warm reassurance of the availability of toileting facilities yet an understanding of the light but functional materials favoured by our American friends. The occasional chance of a poised feral ghoul notwithstanding the draw to swing open every door of every convenience in search of hidden items despite the suspense of dubious hygiene is coded genius. Fallout 3 door designer(s) we salute you.

The PS1 Resident Evil loading screen doors deserve a place in hell.

Which game allowed you press a button to open the door and then quickly press again to fucking boot stomp it open?
That was satisfying.

mrpon that would have been the original release of Resident Evil 4. I know because you can't do it in the remake and I miss it.

Mirror's Edge had great doors, the way you smash through them mid-run without losing any momentum is great.

Mirror's Edge had great doors, the way you smash through them mid-run without losing any momentum is great. Fortnite has a similar effect where you can shoulder smash through doors if you spring into them. Which is fun, though I don't think I've ever got any actual benefit out of it. There was a stealth game that allowed you to open the door little by little using the mouse wheel, but I forget which one it was. Not Thief I don't think? Splinter Cell? Amnesia? Back in the days of Doom, Quake, Heretic, etc... there were so many times where I was amazed by some massive advancement in Door Technology. Like having a door that rotated open. Or having a door that twisted open. Kids these days don't know they're born with all their fancy doors that can open with all these complex animations! But they also miss out on all those 'omg!' reactions to small technical improvements. PS/ The thing I hate is when there are loads of non-interactive doors that you can't open, but they don't visually differentiate them or give a reason! Old games like Jedi Knight solved this by putting some fallen beam in front of them or something, but modern games don't seem to bother half the time.
