Had a bit more game time due to being signed off work for a bit so played theough A Plague Tale: Requiem as I mostly enjoyed the first. It is more of the same but a lot of the annoyances have been cleaned up (like how temperamental the rat chase sequences could be in the first game). The small boss fightish combat arenas are still a bit annoying though.
The atmosphere remains very good (I played with French audio again) and the graphics and sound design works well. I enjoyed the story too. If you liked the first it is worth playing for more of the story. I soent 22 hours, getting both (very minor difference) endings and 51% of trophies (24/36).
Not sure what is next...

I might not be completing as many games as I thought I would this year, but I’ve been really fortunate to have played so many high quality titles. Only two games so far were released this year (and one of those is a remake), but I suppose we live in a time where there is such a big pool of great games out there to cherry pick.
Next up, Picross S2 and Tomb Raider 2. I have Hellblade 2 and Pikmin 4 ready to go as well, but then there’s also the thread of the Stardew Valley 1.6 update on Switch scuppering all my gaming plans for the year.

It was a decent finale. Sutably epic, yet rushed and cheesy at times, much like the whole saga. I'll give them extra props because the expansion requires no grind whatsoever to see the end.

I said in my first post at the start of the year that at some point I'd slow down on games and fuck me, after smashing 75 hours into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in three weeks, it's taken me two MONTHS to do 50 hours in Grandia (obvs some small completions along the way as above albeit two of those I'd sunk loads of hours in at the start of the year).
Brilliant game but felt like a slog at times, unfairly due to things happening in my life, so I am relieved to finish it but very glad I replayed it. Think I played it in 2001 or so and whilst modern games have massively surpassed if in terms of systems etc, the actual battle system is still the GOAT (along with Octopath Traveler).
Speaking of, downloaded that now it's out on PSN but definitely need a JRPG break! Plan now is a few days off and will play F12024 when back for a while then decide what to sink my teeth into. Also got Unicorn Overlord which I badly want to play so might be that but I definitely need a shorter third person shooter or something first.

Played through on PS Plus Extra. Adventure/Puzzly game based on the Vampire RPG system. Mid tier budget I reckon. Completed 1 playthrough with all 3 main characters surviving. 29Hrs if PS5 is up to date and 70% trophies (25£37). Graphics are decent enough for the budget with a suitable art style and a few glitches here and there. The gameplay loop is fairly interesting but having to second guess character upgrades adds challenge (which could be considered good or bad as upgrades are critical to dialogues).
I enjoyed the story and it appears fairly branching, even if certain characters can he dispatched too easily and anticlimatically. Only actions bit is feeding and that is very easy to do correctly. Overall I enjoyed the game even if I could see it's flaws, it has a reasonable variety of locations and character styles to play as.
Still off work so got another game done. Next, maybe System Shock or Outer Worlds. 1 game per month sucks as a completion rate though.

Loved this at first, superb art style and music went a long way to make up for fairly nondescript gameplay. But a couple of frustrating/unclear bits at the end mean I'm glad it's done with. I think it's their first game though so fair play.

Visually, atmosphere and sound design are all absolutely top of the genre, story was ok without being great. I had no problem with the "short" running time and felt that once I had completed the story I was fine with it, in fact I found the pacing to be a little off, the chapter in the caves (3?) went on too long for me. Combat ok, not sure how necessary it was, to the point on the latter chapters I put on "auto combat"

It’s a relatively short collect-a-thon, with charm, that unfortunately lacks any real depth. Not a bad game to unwind to before bed, but otherwise perhaps one for a younger gamer that requires a stepping stone to a full blown platformer or adventure game.

Good atmospheric horror/walking sim by The Chinese room (who specialise in these sort of game/experiences) text taken from wiki as it explains it pretty well: "The story follows an electrician who is trapped on a damaged oil drilling platform, having apparently no way to escape while being pursued by mysterious monsters under harsh weather conditions"
From me, needs to be played with headphones to get the full experience as the ambiance sounds are excellent and actually make you feel cold, wet and afraid of what might be around the next corner! The oilrig has been designed really well, that and the fact you are pretty scripted in where you need to go make what could have been a frustration in traversal is actually pretty painless.
One frustration I did have was a good amount of the qte's failed on me (and that was with changing the reaction time from 3s to 5s) when I was certain I "held left trigger or X" etc when prompted, which resulted in game over screens a few times, although to be fair, could be my old reactions! or my xbox pad needing replacing (after all the CSawing on Gears;) )
The story is fairly good, Caz is a great character and keeps you company with a running commentary of what we are doing or seeing, support cast also good. I got massive The Thing vibes, also Abyss, both fairly obvious based on the subject matter of the game but appreciated all the same.

It was ok but something was a little off, be it the character models or the environments. It was as though the areas you were in were "stages" a bit like when you watch a film and know that you are watching a "set" and not the real place, not sure if that makes sense! I also thought the sound was poor, be it the soundtrack or sound effects, they were too loud and tinny. Story was ok, gunplay better than I had read it was, monster design, not great and the final boss fight made me laugh out loud when I found out it was a walking tree-monster!!! I bought it for £25, happy that I did not pay the rrp of £50 and the fact I made it to the end means it did its job...just. Really enjoyed my time with the game and in the world. If I was being critical I would say the game is pretty average in almost all departments and there are certainly better open world/action "rpg's" out there. But it does have a charm and the combat is rather excellent. The story was good enough and you do have two different paths to choose (you have the ability later in the game to go back and choose the other path) during a lot of the major story points. The world is large, thankfully you have a steed, who can shift a bit! The glider did seem a bit redundant, you didn't glide long enough on a lot of occasions, for it to be a practical mode of transport but that may be down to me not taking enough photos..for the inventor, (you meet him early in the game) to reward me with new/upgraded tech.
If you like dressing up you are catered for to a huge degree, likewise weapons. I like that the game has transmog, even if you get rid of an item you can keep the look and style of it. You can also tart up your house, to a very limited degree, displaying armour, pictures, oniments, all giving slight stat increases or perks for various things.
One of the best features for me was that with almost all boses you can invite up to two human players (these can be friends or randoms) to aid you, this came in so handy. You can even start with a.i. partners and they will be replaced seamlessly when human players want to join, likewise you can enter a match to help someone, once the boss has been defeated the other two players are removed from game instantly, you can't even say cheers!
Somethings that could have been better or improved. Graphics, they are not great, enemy variation, snagging on furniture now and again, too many menus and sub menus, pop ups appearing with information, even after 30+ hours these would come up, telling me things I had been already been doing for ages. I'm not sure I totally understood the fighting stances and perks per style, this probably didn't matter as I was playing on an easier skill setting.
It was somewhat jarring coming from the sublime GoT directly to this (on ps5 at least) but I have totally had my monies worth and I am glad I went for it, even with reading/watching a fair amount of dislike for the game for many reasons.

My partner recently bagged a PS5 for £200 and having not owned a PlayStation for around 6(?) years I thought I’d have a look. Turns out I bought Hotline Miami at some point in the distant past, but I’ve never played it.
I always thought it would be my cup of tea, it’s just never appealed to me strongly enough to jump in. It’s a good game, and I can see why it was once so popular, but I kinda rinsed this in two sittings. Once you realise the key is to rush enemies, it’s actually a very easy game.
I’ve still rated it highly, but I feel I would have enjoyed this more if I hadn’t already played Party Hard to death, which is a mildly similar game, but one I found to be a much more fun. Especially if you have friends to hot-seat with.
Full marks for the soundtrack, though!

I'm adding the Boltgun DLC as an extra, not counting towards the total. It's an over the top campaign that is fairly long in spite of its small level count. A step up in difficulty over the base game, definitely took an effort to clear on Exterminatus. For the very low price of 6 euro, I can't complain at all.
I'd be up for more of these. Maybe next time they can go for smaller and more focused levels.

"Completed" as in done multiple shifts across all unlockable locations on map and unlocking a lot of items to use in the day to day life of a rookie cop with several trophies. I enjoyed it, I am happy it was "free" however as it does have numerous bugs and glitches, it also repeats lots of the same dialog and situations, but not enough to take away the fun factor of dropping in for a 20 minute (real time) shift, speaking of which you can do anything from 15 mins to 1 hour, actually may be 90 mins. You do eventually get a squad car and gun!
