Yeah, hasn't it already been down to £25ish?
I keep putting it off as I've got a mammoth backlog, and can just try it the next time I sub to Ubi+ I suppose.

Returned to this again last weekend, continuing my 30% save and I'm having a blast, especially now that I've got all the transversal powers and the travel between Wak-Wak trees, which really opened up the [huge] map I'll probably get the DLC as well, as I'm still familiar with the game mechanics

I need to have a proper look at this. Part of me wants to replay it from scratch, but I don’t know if the DLC is its own thing. I haven’t touched any of the DLC, but would happily pay for it all off the back of just how great the base game is.

DLC out now. Around £5 so can't imagine it's terribly long? But more levels is always good

So torn on this. I’ll be getting it, but just not right away. The game was already generously big, so I’m going to save the DLC until I replay the whole thing again.
There’s just a few too many games coming out in the run up to Christmas. Caravan Sandwitch, The Plucky Squire, Zelda and Dragon Quest 3. Plus the backlog and whatever is still lingering in my wish lists.

I did buy it earlier. Then again, I just finished the main game and if there would be a chance for me to play that, it would be now

DLC is as you would expect, pretty tough! Reverts your abilities back to default and even goes as far as to take your potions away from you! If the environmental traps and puzzles were a bit much for you in the base game, then be prepared for this I guess. I felt hard stuck on an environment puzzle for half an hour before remembering that I can phase shift to help solve it, so it's going great for me so far.

Fuck Ubisoft

Sigh. The best game released this year. Gutted for the developers. But given the pedigree of the franchise, the quality of the game, and general word of mouth, 300k players is tragic. On one hand it makes the decision understandable but on the other I wonder if that is partially down to how aggressive Ubisoft are with sales and people are just happy to wait. But it’s been on sale for £15-25 quite regularly so it’s not like people haven’t had an opportunity to pick it up.

Also doesn't help when one of the CEO's on the week of release comes out and says we all need to get used to not owning games. Self sabotage

It is ironic. It’s their weaker games that tend to sell better. This game deserves so much more. The combat is so slick.
They do need to tighten up their pricing model though. And cut back on the amount of iterative sequels. However, with quality like this underperforming, it kinda suggests they should do the opposite…

I've only just started playing this and it's easily my favourite metroidvania, possibly ever. Much more my taste than hollow knight or dread.

Yeah it sucks, but if no one's buying what can you do? It's something I've noticed more common this gen of highly praised games that don't do the numbers outside of the usual suspects.

Probably should have clarified that was at launch (taken at the end of January ‘24). Given the IP, still would have expected it to sold a lot more.

Crowded genre, but that’s a real shame. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Probably should have clarified that was at launch (taken at the end of January ‘24). Given the IP, still would have expected it to sold a lot more. You would expect those sales to peter out after the initial launch. It most likely didn't even make 1 million. As Phattso said it's a very crowded genre. Also I don't think PoP has the same pull as it did back in the ps2 era.

The genre also doesn’t sell particularly well, but surely they knew this?

They watched how Nintendo sold Metroid Dread for full price and thought hey we can do that too. Huge miscalculation.

It wasn't a full price game

Ok not full full price but still an unusually high price for a metroidvania.

It also had much higher production value than any other metroidvania though and was deserving of it's price.
It didn't land though, which is a shame as I think it's easily a top 5 metroidvania and it's in my top 3 I think.

Perhaps if they didn’t go full on woke with the character design
That’s a joke btw

My opinion is that Metroid sold because Nintendo fans are starved of Metroid games. And this didn’t sell because gamers have lost trust with Ubisoft and there’s an element of the price will drop eventually, but then there’s so many other games, that they probably couldn’t be arsed to buy it.

It also had much higher production value than any other metroidvania though and was deserving of it's price. That may well be and I didn't mean to question that, but it's a €40 game in a genre where €30 is considered expensive, from a publisher that's loathed by a large portion of the gaming community. Just saying the expectations were probably very unrealistic.

I feel like the brand association of Ubisoft had an effect here, coupled with how many people say ill get this on sale but never do. Also the same people who cry out for games like this, don't buy it and bemoan the industry.

I can imagine the Beyond Good & Evil anniversary sold less than they expected too.

I enjoyed the demo but didn't buy it, it's one of those titles I thought I'd pick up later on but never did.
