Not the derail this topic entirely, but to me reviews of Lords of the Fallen really should have emphasized the issues in movement, floatiness of combat, level design and enemy placement. I played it at a friends house (who after that evening returned it to the store) and did watch quite a few hours of lets plays to see if it was on me and my friend. Fextralife(not sure if its a person, group or corporation) used to be much more carefull extensive on how combat feels but nowadays just seems like they phone it in based on sponsors.
Lords of the Fallen just got so many basic things wrong that it completely turned me off from ever wanting to play it untill its 10 euro or something.

Not having watched his views on Lords of the Fallen, FightinCowboy lost me after shelving Rise of the Ronin after the first "proper" main mission tbh.
Not to reopen this can of worms, but he actually gave the game 25-odd hours before throwing in the towel - he just didn't continue his 'Let's Play' series beyond the mission you describe.
It would appear I was misinformed then... But to be honest now I understand his opinion a little less, as that much time should have been more than enough for him to see that the combat is much closer to his tastes than he initially gave it credit for, even if the skill ceiling is lower than previous TN games (and that's coming from me having played pre-1.04 at that, as I understand it it's even tighter now) And I can't even say it's because the open world and other niggles turned him off, because he was much more positive and open with Dragon's Dogma 2 around the same time, and even those that love that game admit it has even more jank than RotR Just feels like a surprisingly odd reaction to me, all in all...

JuniorFE He went back to it and did a three-hour livestream a fortnight or so after launch, as people had been urging him to give the game another try; his second opinion was more positive than his first, but the difference was marginal. As much as I like Cowboy's content, I do think that reviews are his weakest suit by far - I'd much rather listen to Skill Up (who, sadly, still hasn't reviewed Stellar Blade).

We've now gone from predicting journalists will thrash the game and so it needs defending, to cherry picking criticisms of Eve's sexualisation from reviews taken from game sites so obscure Google can't find them and sharing it around projecting that this is the opinion of all reviewers, to now being angry at the devs because there seems to be one outfit out of 30 that was previously shown to show a bit of cleavage but has now been covered up based off a blurry screenshot from someone who has the game, so let's just scream censorship at them and issue statements that were not buying the game now.
Perpetual victims.

In fairness, they've spent every waking minute of the past few weeks crafting this narrative, and it'd be a shame to let all that hard work go to waste just because the facts don't support it.

We've said this multiple times before, but it's still unbelievable to me that this is the hill the people making this an issue have chosen to die on... These people either need to be introduced to porn to bang a couple out and calm down, or have their access to it locked for warping their worldview, I'm not sure which It's fanservice, pure and simple, and optional fanservice at that (there's plenty of outfits that won't get you any odd looks AFAIK), and that's fine! There's been hundreds of examples of such over the years (hell, the previous, gacha game from these very same developers, Nikke, would blow up these poor people's heads... Both of them ), it's ridiculous to start such shitstorms over it in the year of our Lord 2024 (that goes for both anyone condemning it and anyone championing it, btw. It's very much a "live and let live" issue IMO). Put some of that effort towards an actual problem FFS, we have enough of those without inventing new ones...

Outside of a deranged french IGN editor and the usual suspects Kotaku, there is only the "incel" youtube reddit machine farming content on this topic. It seems to me that it is a storm in a cup kind of thing and that people should not fuel this kind of negative content.

Jambowayoh Which part is a lie? I'm sure I won't get blue balls just by looking at Eve's arse, even in her naked suit! You said it wouldn't hurt to look at a "well crafted, juicy, jiggly one". That's a lie. Your penis is going to be in a world of hurt. Nice alliteration btw. You're doing it wrong.

It's deliberate, but is it on purpose?
I'm interested to see what happens with patches - people were saying the big issue was that it was triggering the first attack on the release of the button, which is likely why it felt so bad to me.

Jambowayoh Seems weird, right? Even on the day the demo launched, there were fanboys on the subreddit denying that there was any input lag, and trotting out the old "git gud" line ad nauseam; now the devs confirm that the lag exists, that they haven't fixed it since the demo, and that it's there intentionally?
As I say, weird.

It did seem like it had to be deliberate. The delay was incredibly noticeable that there was no way they would have left it like that if it wasn't intentional. To be honest, I can't think of another time when input lag has actually bothered me, but here it instantly registered with me as being completely off.
No idea why they would actually want it like this though. Yes, a game like Dark Souls requires you to press the parry button a little early, but the actual animation plays as soon as you press the button. Here though, nothing happens for .5 seconds and it does feel like the game is broken.
Hearing that the reviewed copies are still like that, I'm not really seeing how it can lauded for the combat. The upgrade to increase the timing window helped make it a bit easier, but it still felt wrong (plus, parrying and to a lesser extent dodging just weren't very satisfying). Will be good to hear people's thoughts who had similar qualms about the demo whether that carries through to final game.

Probably assuming players will be going off prematurely.

It always felt intentional, I was surprised when they put out that statement suggesting you enable game mode as if that'd fix an intentional design decision. I get why people might not like it and for me it gives it a unique feel, but people Reddit claiming it wasn't there struck me as bizarre.

If they're already adjusting it on the first day then hopefully they'll keep looking at it. They let you turn off the terrible lens effects it seems.

They say in the article that they'll monitor players' reactions and might make changes if there's enough demand, but if the guy's being honest when he says that the delay "can't be reduced any further", it might be here to stay.
I had started to wonder why none of the reviews I'd read (or watched) made any reference to improvements being made from the demo - turns out it was a feature, not a bug.

PSA: If you're interested in buying this, you can get 20% off from The Game Collection via eBay, so the game will cost about £56.00.

I noticed this but I would have struggled to ever articulate quite what was going on. The effect happened as soon as you hit the button but the on-screen feedback is delayed because they are so in love with their sex dolls animations that they don’t want to interrupt it, so it’s initially really hard to tell if you’ve done it. The day one patch notes say it has been improved and I would bet that by this time next year it acts like any other game, but I did get used to it in the boss battle mode so I’m sure it’s, eventually fine in the game itself if very, very sub-optimal.

Skill Up liked the game, albeit with some fairly heavy caveats:
A much better review than Cowboy's, in my view (and as someone who's subscribed to both channels, that's par for the course).

Once in a while, copying a forum URL and pasting it into Safari - 'cause I can't see Twitter embeds in Firefox - isn't worth the effort.
This is not one of those times.
