I don't think that works in the prologue, unless I'm being even more dense than usual. Only works on replays, you have to view it once. |

Today I started playing Ronin and tried this demo as well.
I won't derail this thread with my Ronin impressions, I'll just say that this does feel sluggish to me, compared not only to Ronin but to Jedi Survivor as well, the game I've been playing the last few weeks and finished last weekend (currently mopping up the last achievements)... and be sluggish I don't mean only the combat but the general movement as well, walking, running, jumping or swinging around poles, all feel slightly off...
I'm not sure the developer will have time to fix some of the nuisances in time for release or not and there are some redeeming qualities (ooh matron) but based on my demo impressions so far, it's on the "maybe on a sale" pile...

That's the conclusion to which I've come as well - you can't skip cutscenes unless you die, whereupon you can hold Circle to skip whatever you've already watched.
If you want to replay the demo, you'll have to sit through everything a second (or third, or fourth...) time.

Interesting, JonFE . Will you be posting your Ronin impressions in that game's dedicated thread? I need to move on a bit, still early hours, but I can tell you right now I am warming up to Ronin. At first everything seemed wrong and confusing, but I'm finding my steps with the combat and the world gives me that early whispers Elden Ring feeling, that "hmm, I want to go there, wait, what's that over here, intersting, what are those thugs guarding... /forgets where he was heading, loses an hour fucking around" scenario, which is a sacrilege to say out loud and frankly I did not expect going in. So yeah, first impression is a positive one and I don't regret my purchase. Edit: as for Stellar Blade, I think I was a bit harsh, comparing it to Jedi Survivor or Ronin. It does feel rough around the edges, but with some more polish or at the right price, it could be a good game for a dry season... |

Tried the demo yesterday, enjoyed the chunk I played, reminds me of Bayonetta and Scarlet Nexus.I do "need" a new ps5 game but these current price tags are putting me off a bit. Might bite.

I was always going to get it, it was just a matter of when. I miss PS2-era action games. It’s cool. Wish the Perfect Dodge was a little easier to pull off. I have more luck with the Perfect Parry. Blink at least has a tell.

Gawd, everything about this just feels a bit cheap and tacky.
The combat is clunky as fuck, the alien design is a bit budget, the voice acting is poor and sex doll characters and leering camera angles are just awful.
Is this a full price release?

Yep. $70, and I imagine the same in £ and €.
I don’t actually think the voice acting is too bad, but while flipping through English, Korean and Spanish VOs, I was surprised I liked the Korean voices the least. It went from monotone to overacting on a dime.
At moment, my biggest issue is the blandness of the stage layout, but who knows, maybe later stages are better designed. At least artistically, they look more interesting. Judging from the trailers anyway.

Not watched the video, but the comments under the video are so alien to what I played. Even at my most fulsome (i.e. Friday afternoon, following a half-hour session immediately after the download completed), I couldn't bring myself to say anything that hyperbolic!
This was actually the first time I've downloaded a demo before a game launched. Combine that with my ill-disguised desperation for a new hack and slash title, plus my desire to see Stellar Blade as more than Boobs n' Booty Simulator 2024, and my initial comments on the game were a tad OTT; having since gone back with clearer eyes, I think I've ended up with a more balanced perspective than I had at the start.
"Best combat EVAH!" is a ludicrous claim as far as I'm concerned, unless those assertions are coming from people who have never played any melee action games before. It's such a daft position that I can't help but wonder whether those posting such remarks actually believe them, or whether they're just determined to support their 'team' in the culture war nonsense that has enveloped Stellar Blade from the get-go.
All that having been said, I do think the demo is good - whether the full game will be anything more than a 7/10, "good fun, but wait for a sale 'cause it's not worth seventy bucks" affair will depend upon how much tweaking Shift Up are prepared to do during the next month, if any.

I don't really have a huge interest in the game (I don't have a PS5 and not really into this gaming genre) but it's hard to not get swept along by the hype slightly.
But as a casual observer some of the comments elsewhere on the internet come across like a bunch of fanboys so desperate for this game with an "attractive"* character to be amazing they just spout hyperbole.
Glad FG has provided some more balanced views.
*I don't find the character that attractive and her pointy face is weird.

And I'd say chances are the devs themselves are not invested in this Western culture war either, they just took the Yoko Taro approach of 'I like hot girls' and that's fine, just some weirdos trying to prove a point against enemies they made up in their own head.
Voice acting certainly seemed bland and monotone. Defenders will surely say it's intentional as Eve's an android. Only time will tell if it gets any better. Nier Automata can be accused of the same but of course, as the game progresses , 2B and 9S get more emotionally invested in theilr descent to madness. This too is also 'aliens are bad' but who knows if they'll go for the same apporoach.
