I’d been meaning for years to have a proper go at FNV, and the arrival of the TV show put me in the right frame of mind, so I loaded up all of the Viva New Vegas mods and jumped in.
Really enjoying it so far, but having issues with Caesar’s Legion. I will end up siding with the NCR, but I was actively trying to remain neutral with them until later in the game (I am level 11). But they are making it impossible. I did a mission to recover some NCR supplies, and got jumped by Legionnaires. Now I am ‘shunned’. OK, at least they won’t be hostile. But they bloody are! I’ve already had Assassins appear to fight me. I’ve managed to reload saves to avoid them, but eventually I’m going to have to fight them, and then they will hate me. And it will all be their fault, not mine!
Any suggestions? I’ve read that it may be worth doing the Honest Hearts DLC, but currently I can’t find the radio station that gives you the starter quest.

If I remember correctly, all the factions that hate you become neutral once you get past a certain point in the story. Like a relationship reset, because you are getting close to something they want.

You can't stay neutral towards a totalitarian, culture-assimilating dictatorship idolizing war as the solution for everything. You either become a part of it, or you become their enemy.

Oh, I'm going to kill them. I just didn't want to have them trying to kill me on sight before I was ready.

Sorted the start of the DLC. Never was able to pick up the radio station, but managed to trigger it by finding the location and going there physically.

An enduring memory of New Vegas for me was save scumming to eradicate Ceasar and his cronies the first time I was introduced to them. Game did a great job of making them as vile as possible.

They were definitely the evil faction, but they weren't as one dimensional as they could have been. I like when you finally get to talk to Caesar, and he's just some guy.
That said, if I have any major criticism of the game, it's that I think the Legion could have been even more fleshed out. It's not very interesting to side with them, because all they really want is for you to kill all the other factions.

I think it would have worked better if you didn't see them committing atrocities and instead it was all rumours that there was some doubt to. Or if Caesar saw it was going too far and wanted someone to come in and help him row back from that kind of extremism.

The fact that your first encounter with the Legion is in a town where they have beheaded and/or crucified everyone doesn’t exactly get them off to a great start.
I was attacked by their assassins again last night. I’m still only shunned by the faction. Seems a whole lot of effort for them to go to, just because they have a mild dislike for me. Not only are they clearly the bad guys, they are doing their utmost to make me kill them so that they can hate me for it.

I have this installed on my Xbox. I'm going to try and actually complete F4 first before moving onto this.
Is the dlc worth buying next time it's on sale?

So I got to the bit where Caesar forgives your crimes, and then went back and did a couple of quests that involved killing Legion first!
Have now gone into the Honest Hearts DLC. It’s fun, and a bit different. It’s surprisingly tough though (even though it’s meant to be easy!) I’ve had several deaths already, and I don’t remember the last one I had in the main game. Have found some decent armour now - hopefully that will help.
My main issue with this game is the insane repair costs. It’s about 8k caps to repair my armour. I have 16k total.

I don't remember having trouble with Honest Hearts, but Old World Blues had lots of tough robotic enemies. I had jsawyer-mod installed though, so it was probably a bit harder overall. And I was fairly high level at that point anyway I think.
I admittedly don't remember anything about repair cost to be honest.

Is the dlc worth buying next time it's on sale? All DLC for New Vegas is pretty good, in my opinion, but some people don't like Dead Money, because it's quite different than the rest of the game and can be somewhat stressful if you don't have a good build and equipment.
