Anyone else having audio issues. Like some sound effects are way too loud, others are far too quiet. The audio track is way too loud and drowns out some of the sound effects.
It's actually ruining my enjoyment of the game. I played Astro's Playroom and that sounded great by comparison.
A quick Google shows others complaining about this, although not that many. Do I have an issue or do you lot have bad hearing?

The controller speaker is generally quite loud but outside of that, which I wouldn’t attribute to the issues you’re mentioning, then I haven’t noticed any problems myself.

It probably is the controller volume, it's really loud by default. Not sure eif you can turn it down as I'm too lazy to bother looking.

No its not that. I'm playing with headphones on. I have tried playing through the tv and controller but experience the same issue. Weirdly, I don't think my controller is that loud even when turned up to the max.

Do I have an issue or do you lot have bad hearing? Noticed this yesterday. We only played for a couple of hours, but after about 45 minutes I had to turn the volume down as it seemed to have jumped noticeably. Another 30 minutes pass and I turned it down again as it seemed to have jumped up even more. Hooked up vie eARC to a 5.1.2 system. Not had this issue on any other games (or content).

OK, well there are rumblings that something isn't quite right.
In Playroom I enjoyed all the little sounds, even raindrops hitting an umbrella sounded good. I'm just not getting any of that in this one, something is definitely off.
I have shelved it until further notice, hopefully they will recognise an issue.

Raindrops etc are the sorts of sounds discretely coming via the controller aren't they? My controller is way too loud, even at default/ mid setting. I turned it down today as the balance with telly was way off.

I turned it down today as the balance with telly was way off. I played Playroom entirely with headphones and all sounds were heard and it sounded fantastic. Go back to the first world, play the level where you shrink down in size. There is a part where you zip on a couple of wires. Listen to the sound of it and tell me it doesn't sound like a garbled, low quality mess. I'm telling ya, something is off.

Can't say I've had these sound issues. It's just as good as playroom was and I enjoy the difference between the controller and normal sound.
Played another few levels and it continues to be an excellent game. Loved the slot machine level immensely.
Off to play some space marine.

Do the little twinkly purple and pink clouds on the space map ever turn into anything?

What. A. Game. I'm both really happy and yet actually a bit sad that it's all over. Think I might have to break out the PSVR1 again and play Rescue Mission!

I think your sound issues might be you are not used to additional sounds playing through the controller speakers. Not many games fully utilize this PS5 feature so I don't blame you for thinking it's a bug.

I had to turn the amp down twice during the session and the combined change would be enough that in normal viewing (of a film) would make the difference between the edge of too loud for comfort and too quiet to hear all the dialogue.

In preparation for the new game, I'm playing through Playroom at the moment, which is glorious and I foolishly ignored it all these years as an advert gimmick (which it totally is, but that's besides the point). Apparently, you can unlock 4 special bots in the original game and have them in the new game or something similar - apologies if not accurate, I cannot check since I haven't finished the original...
Guide video in spoilers, if anyone's interested.

It's not really a gimmick though, not in the negative meaning. As SkillUp mentions in his Astro Bot review, the problem is that almost no other devs have utilised the controller in the way that Asobi/Sony first party do.
Everyone has access to the same features in the controller, no-one puts any effort into using them. I'm generally surprised when I hear even the controller speaker being used, never mind the haptics or adaptive triggers.

Derblington I realise I wasn't clear, I had the "celebrate Playstation" nature of Playroom in mind when I said an "advert gimmick", not the utilization of the controller, that was a brilliant, genius move; my bad...

I think the issue is that a lot of third party developers probably haven't got the fund/time to implement anything interesting, other than the triggers. Not to say that Sony couldn't do it themselves in say.. Horizon, GoW etc.
Also whoever implemented the triggers on WRC 9 basically fucked my controller.. so watch out lads.

Did the spring go? That's not their fault it's Sony's as they are flimsy as fuck.

Re: the controller effects not being used by other games, the other issue is that basically everything is multiplatform nowadays. Unless Sony dump money on a developer to do it, they aren't going to want to put unique features into one version of the game and make other platform owners believe they are going to get a lesser version.
There are a few games that use some light effects. Playing Cyberpunk on PC with a PS5 pad and there is some nice trigger stuff going on as you drive and you can feel the gear shifts (there is probably stuff on foot too, but I switch to keyboard for that). Alan Wake 2 also has raindrops gently peppering your hands. You aren't going to get any developers going more than that though if they want to release across multiple platforms.

It's actually really easy, if a bit fiddly. I meant that in WRC 9 the trigger sensitivity was insane. It was like holding a drill. But, yeah it's on Sony not to make it so flimsy.

I think they did improve it in later versions of the pad but my launch one broke as well. Need to get around to fixing it at some point.

I think it’s more a priority vs time issue. I doubt any dev is worried that the controller features are going to outshine the other platform version, and really with the platform sales what they are it’s just par for the course. A few games do utilise it - Star Wars Outlaws for example has radio/alarm comms from the controller speaker and the adaptive triggers have a trigger point on the speeder bike acceleration - but when push comes to shove and deadline looms, it’s an easy thing to deprioritise, especially when tweaking haptics to gameplay will naturally come later in the cycle than the underlying gameplay feature work.

Ok so ref the sound issues, I decided to play Astro Bot some more last night but NOT use my headphones.
It is much improved without headphones. There are a lot of sounds that use the controller speaker which don't seem to get fed through the headphones. I had a much better time with the game last night and played it for about 3 hours.
This game was obviously designed to be played without headphones. I'm still not entirely convinced nothing is wrong though, some sounds are still a little on the quiet side. I would also rather not listen to sounds out of a tinny sounding speaker. I played through Astro's Playroom solely with headphones and that sounded fantastic.
Oh well. At least I am enjoying it now the way it was obviously designed to be played. So my advice to everyone is to NOT use headphones for this game.

I hate the tinny controller speaker with a passion and muted it the first chance I get. It's just all ear piercing treble.
I can see this boiling my piss a bit too if I need to use it to experience the game properly. It's always been a bit of a throwaway feature in any other game and never feels like you're missing much with it off.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of controller speakers either. I know what they are trying to go for with an additional sound source to make it seem more immersive but all it does is sound tinny and drain your batteries. And, of course, you'll be missing out on the sounds with headphones on or if you mute it.
