NCPD scanners got a bit tiresome after a while, but I still wouldn't compare them to Ubi's template. There was some decent writing in there if you stopped to read the dataterms. The roadside picnic nod was great.
Night and day difference in terms of effort to some dude just dragging 100 feathers to random points on a map.

in cyberpunk, you never had to do any of the side stuff, always felt optional. Cretins on reddit scream "witcher 3 is ubisoft sandbox" also in that game you never had to do any of the side stuff and it was not heavily copy and pasted all over the map like icon vomit
Ubisoft really started making you do the copy and paste side missions to level up, get gear etc and their side missions can be just slop like in AC oranges and odyssey (in odyssey you needed to do optional missions to get to the level gate for the next mission unless you purchased their MTX XP booster) Never played Valhalla but I couldn't face 90hours of 25 hours actually gameplay
ubisoft cookie cutter approach for game design really backfired imo as they games become conveyor belt eg sandwich packaging or robots making a car (but with bugs and glitches)

Even the supposedly non-grindy Ubisoft games push me way over my limit for tedious grind and laborious gameplay.
I've only played two Assassin's Creed games, the first and Black Flag, the grinding for ship upgrades to capture some forts just so you could do dome more grinding elsewhere tried my patience to the limit.
Every time I approach with some expectation of actual game design it just throws up a wall of tedium to slow me down. Story missions nearly always involve guards. Lots of guards. Just milling around being in your way. I gave this game more credit than it deserves, observing from a vantage point, where is the line of the least resistance? Is there a hidden pathway? Some trick I can exploit to avoid all this bullshit?
It's always the same conclusion, they expect you to carefully remove the guards and clear a path. Oh, you didn't gather fifteen ocelot scrotums so you could upgrade your dart pouch? Scores of guards and just five darts? Good luck! You're going to be here for a loooooong time whittling that lot down. I have money, what's that for? Just sell me the pouch or the materials. Why are you making me do this just to unlock another low-effort mission that's a carbon copy of the last? Even more guards? What a shocking twist.
When even the supposedly good games sorely try my patience I'll only be buying a couple of 'Ubigames' every decade.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst was the one that did me in.
I loved the linear first one, and an open world version of it should have been great.
But somehow they made it feel like repetitive work. To do the next story mission you always had to get to somewhere first. Which inevitably meant passing near dozens of other 'quest' markers. So the logical thing was to try and check those off on the way... which felt like you were constantly getting distracted to do repetitive things like 'races' instead of what you wanted to be doing.

The amount of icon vomit covering the map in Witcher 3 is pretty nuts.
The current-gen version has reduced map icons by default, which lessens the impact of all the question marks and whatnot, but if you turn them on then it becomes decidedly Ubi-esque (at least from a visual standpoint.)
Some of the side content - monster nests and hidden treasures, for instance - was just the same thing over and over. Noticeboard quests were similarly repetitive, but the repetition was masked by superb writing and acting.

On a different tack, taking the metro and looking out the window is damn cool, you really see Night City in a completely new way.

I knew from the outset that playing as Fem V would prevent me from boinking Panam. Still gave it my all, though.
The saving grace is that my overall play-time ended at 69 hours, which made me feel marginally better.

Its obvs gonna look the bollocks on pc if you've spent the money but all that shiny is for nought if the gameplay sucks balls.
I did like the callout in that vid (yeah it was an intel sponsored thing) that there are intel 14th gen "optimisations". I'd be lying if I wasn't chuckling to myself thinking they're scaling it back to prevent household fires :-P

Anyone else buying this ? I am surprised by so much negativity surrounding it. I went for it, it actually installed (series x) last night but I didn't "pony up" for the super dear versions so I have to wait until 30th. Hopefully get AW2 completed by then!
