Is it weird that this makes me want to watch it even more?

This looks like it could be interesting if you were into stuff like Annihilation

Looking forward to it, seems like we haven't had a big spectacle blockbuster that doesn't have a superhero for ages.

I don't know if it's cause I've aged 13 years since the last one but that was shit.

I'm largely indifferent.
Yeah, technically it looks good. But I dunno, the art design just doesn't fill me with awe or wonder. It feels like I've seen stuff more incredible in computer games and other, non-Western-film, media over the last few decades.
Also, the run time is 190 minutes, fuck going to the cinema for that.

Looks to be a retread of the first one? No indication of any new developments...
Evil humans come along and want the stuff. Nature and indigenous peoples defend...
Though this being the second one in the trilogy means this time they'll lose and in the third one they'll rally the volcano people or something and win out again.
I know Cameron likes his Vietnam analogy a lot, but in this case the tech gap is more than enough to give the humans the edge. They've already shown that genocide is no biggie, so how would the combined forces of nature repel orbital strikes? Or just targeted viruses? Kill every moving thing, get the unobtainium at your leisure...

Woah fuck doing any single activity for over 3 hours straight. I take a kindle and my phone in for a shit these days. Meaning my attention span has dwindled to such an extent I require at least 2 forms of entertainment while pooping. For an average of 7 minutes weekdays, 11 minutes weekends and holidays. Wifi dependent. I hope your shits aren't taking 190 minutes.

Probably an outlier here, but I really enjoyed Avatar. It was quite the experience on the big screen. Well up for the next one. Besides the usual marvel shite, it's been a while since I've seen a visual spectacle at the local flicks. Will probably get some parched peas and the tram home as well.

I remember enjoying Avatar well enough in 2009 but even back then I didn't *quite* see what all the fuss was about, beyond what were clearly state-of-the-art visual effects. It was a well-constructed action film with a ropey plot and it sits somewhere near True Lies on my personal Cameron ranking - which is, y'know, fair enough. Like I said, it was a good film.
I'd be up for another go round but I can't say I see I'm massively invested in four more films that might all be a good three hours long. On the other hand, Cameron has never really made an outright stinker, and he's made at least three utter masterpieces, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I’ll lie there with you, so to speak. Story has been told a thousand times before but fuck it, it was well put together by a guy that does spectacle and storytelling…I’m in, even at three hours

I'm sure it will be good, but if it wasn't a Nolan film I'd say that looked pretty standard.

It's just such a weird thing to do. Trailer starts now. Yeah, it could have started 5 seconds ago.
