I do know I couldn’t stomach watching the cunt either live or on the television when he will be competing - but I bet there is huge interest due to ghoul factor of it all

To be clear, I don't think he is an acceptable role model for kids either. Seems like a pretty clear cut case that he is a cunt, but the Netherlands have obviously decided that they are happy for him to compete under their flag. I'm not sure whether IOC should be the ones making the moral judgement on who is an acceptable role model and who isn't.

We should get FIFA to decide. The bastions of morality and all that is wholesome that they are.

Good start. Discovery+ doesn't seem to work at all. I have a sub through EE (hangover from BT Sport). Rugby 7s isnt working on phone or tv app.
Ah now it's working.

This Van Der Velde case does make me challenge my instincts. Serving 13 months (because the Dutch released him one month after he was repatriated) does not feel like long enough for what he did. It's not so much that offenders should never be allowed to return to their careers or compete at the games, it's more that it doesn't feel like he's been adequately punished in the first place. The judge in his sentencing specifically made reference to his actions costing him his sporting career and it clearly hasn't.
Equally I was recently praising the new Government for appointing Timpson to sort out our overcrowded prisons by prioritising reform over locking people up for years, and he specifically cited the Dutch as a good example where they try and reintegrate offenders quickly...
Obviously it's horrible for the victim to see this dragged up publicly again. Then again, he's being publicly shamed on an international scale which is a sort of punishment in itself. The Olympic publicity will mean he can never escape this now.
Yeah, no easy answers.
Only thing that I'm confident about is that Paula doesn't generally wish good luck to convicted nonces and just talked herself into a conversational cul-de-sac without thinking. I imagine she didn't sleep last night.

Gah! Had the beating of New Zealand and Fiji today in the 7s only to throw it away. Ah well, outside chance of a medal gone.

Is Eurosport part of Discovery plus because there’s loads of coverage on there. Between Eurosport and BBC, you should get the main headliner sports. If you want to watch every possible event, you need Discovery+. If you've had BT Sports/TNT Sports subscription, your BT log in details will work on it. I have a YouView box, and I've got EuroSports 1 and 2, and they've opened up another 10 EuroSport channels recently. If you have Sky etc, they'll all be there in the higher up numbers (not Babestation levels though ), or filter by Sport.

At least no-one is reported hurt.

Why are Celine Dion and Lady Gaga (rumored to be) appearing at the Paris Olympics? Do they have any connection to Paris or France? Seems an odd choice.

Don't know about Lady Gaga, but Celine Dion is known for singing in French (I thought she might have represented France in a Eurovision, but that was just a French language song for Switzerland).

Will be interesting who admits/is found out regarding the train lines arson attacks. The french do seem to love burning shit up/rioting/violent demonstrations... Vive la révolution and all that...
Pretty sure Billy Joel wasn't involved!

Celine Dion is French Canadian from Québec. Lady Gaga... no idea.
Just looked up most successful French pop artists. Many of the ones I'd heard of are dead. You'd think Daft Punk might have been persuaded to do a one off (surely they will feature), but otherwise I can see why they are trying to claim Dion.

I just got back from Paris. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a bit of light rioting. Fucking Nostradamus over here, predicting the French would start setting stuff on fire

You do have to wonder how much a certain Eastern European country could be "helping" with the problems that are cropping up for the Olympics but that's a subject for a different sub-forum really.
