I'd prefer it if it didn't limit itself to multiplayer games. Games everywhere are being lost because there's no incentive for publishers to preserve them, and players doing it themselves is legally murky. There are legal deposit systems set up for printed literature, and (sometimes) movies. Why not games too?

In terms of what can be done right now, only purchase products where all the content is on the disc or they let you download a full copy of the game data, never requiring you to get entangled in nonsense like accounts and online verification etc.
It got this bad because too many of us let it get this way. This one could have been nipped in the bud with no legislation or fuss necessary.
Online play is largely superfluous, most of the time you wouldn't even notice if it was a bot rather a human being, is getting to play online with POONSMASHA420 or whomeever really bringing sunshine into your life?

I agree, it needs to be for all games that 'phone home' even for simple shit like timetables.

Does it really matter who is controlling the character skating against a wall? Or wasting inventory and generally being a nuisance? Some people enjoy playing online games with friends (POONSMASHA420 and I go back a long way)

Does it really matter who is controlling the character skating against a wall? Or wasting inventory and generally being a nuisance? It seems I have a different experience when playing online games than you do.

Does it really matter who is controlling the character skating against a wall? Or wasting inventory and generally being a nuisance? What about when you get some mates together and play online in the same game and speak to each other whilst playing? Like I do, with souls games for example. Or everquest, where you have downtime to meditate and chat to other online players and discuss the previous fight that almost got you all killed but didn't? Some of my greatest gaming memories are from online play with other people.

I do appreciate the lack of voice chat in some games, but it’s always better playing with friends.

Can't remember the last time I used in-game voice chat (on PC). Discord for friends is always significantly better and I don't ever feel the need to talk to the random people.

I’m more worried about the fact Shadow Gangs installed itself on my iPhone without consent

I do appreciate the lack of voice chat in some games, but it’s always better playing with friends. Yeah true, some people just want to crack on and not speak. But it's nice to have a choice - depending on the game too. If I'm playing a souls game it's great when you talk as it's such a quick game and messages don't work that well unless it's just, "OK let's go give it a shot now, go!", but in things like everquest, it's text only but that fits because it's a slower paced game Horses for courses I guess.
