🤐😠
I haven't bought anything. If I do, I'll be sure to tell you.
There's only two guitars on my want list, both Gibsons. One I've told you about (a 335),the other is deeply unlikely (a 60s Firebird V).

I might as well ask in here, as I'm advertising everywhere online. I'm selling one of my synths. Is anyone after a moog one by any chance?

Yeah I know that feeling. You'll get it though if it's a decent one
Yup! This Thursday in Manchester! Found out the other day that the other support band, the Estonian punk one, are on tour. They've done Estonia, Latvia and Finland and this is the first time they've ever come to the UK, so they're fucking stoked!
Hope its a good un!

Anyone here play piano?
I've played guitar for 20 years but never tried it. Want to give it a go and wondered what digital piano to buy. A lot of snobbery around needing weighted keys etc so been looking at P45 yamaha but can get touch sensitive non weighted keys for less.

Yes, play piano Thing with weighted keys (that I've found and definitely only my opinion) Piano = perfect Semi weighted (non branded) = ok Semi weighted (fatar keybed) = almost perfect Fully weighted = I can't get on with them at all Is there a reason why you're getting a digital piano as opposed to a standard piano? There normally is, like weight and room space, but just wondered. There are approximately 60 billion digital pianos - are there any features you're after? Pedals? different presets? Ability to edit / save? USB/Midi functionality?

I've not been to it before - I've just seen some facebook photos from other bands. It's called Aatma, and it's above a pub called the Peer Hat, in the northern quarter in Manchester - aatmavenue.co.uk/Stage looks fairly big. I mean, San Pedro are an 8 piece and they're playing, so even with all our synths, we should be ok Not sure on crowd capacity. couple of hundred maybe?

Option to add a pedal be good.

Cool, in that case, there should be loads that fit your requirements. The Yamaha p45 is a good one. I would *definitely* recommend sitting down and playing some though - some of the weighted stuff might surprise you - some of them you might like, and others you might not, and it can be an expensive feature. Are you after one that's the same size as a piano? I.e., these - www.musicradar.com/news/best-digital-pianosOr are you more after the portable (slab) versions, i.e., these - www.pianodreamers.com/best-digital-pianos-and-keyboards/Then there's budget, space, features, headphones, pedals I'd just go to a shop and have a play about to narrow it down

I've had a play with the p45. Really liked it but might need something in the 4-6 octave range just because the full size is still quite wide. Plus I am mindful that I might be completly awful.

Yeah I'd recommend 61 keys at least really (5 octaves). Full size (88) is fucking big though and takes a lot of space.
There are so many tutorials and tips nowadays, you'll be finding stuff to play for years.
Simple chord charts and basic tips for harmony will definitely get your going for sure
Go get one and show us some pics!!

Talking of Pianos. My boy - after quite a few weeks of hammering through it with his teacher - has just mastered Moonlight Sonata.
So now every evening I keep thinking I'm in Spencer Mansion.

So will have a look at what you sent me and some other bits. Leaning towards the NP12 yamaha. It's got all of above. 6 octaves, Touch sensitive. Just not weighted etc. Mrs damagedinc thinks I should get something like the p45 and just be done with it. Whilst I'm being a bit more conservative. Especially as I am dipping my toes at this stage. If its like the guitar then if you're that good you can make a shitty 100 pound squire sing!

Get weighted - it really adds to you feeling what your playing.
Otherwise it’s like playing the guitar but not being able to bend the strings.

I'd still highly recommend demoing some before you buy anything. I've played some weighted keybeds and they've been unbelievably shit. Others have been really good. It's a bit of a minefield to be honest because of the different apporaches different companies take. Yamaha normally get it spot on though. But try them out at least!

I take it weighted means it feels more like a piano and less like a keyboard?

Post by quadfather on Feb 15, 2023 10:16:23 GMT
Yeah, there's some resistance on weighted. The stupid thing is that you can get semi-weighted and fully weighted. It's the fully weighted ones that can feel really strange. Really hard to play lightly with them for some reason. Couldn't be further away from feeling like a piano in some cases.
None weighted is just as crap too, zero resistance apart from the spring mechanism that moves the key back to the default position after you've let go of it. But then you can get aftertouch on synthesizer keyboards, where you press it down normally for the note, and then while you're still pressing it, press it even harder and it will activate whatever effect/thing you've mapped to the aftertouch setting. Semi weighted aftertouch keybeds are really nice, but I'm wandering off topic here, as Damage just wants a digital piano.
