Is there somewhere you can rent out? We just rent a small office in a large building that's mainly unused and just turned it into a studio. Is there something equivalent like that? i.e., not a studio, but something you could turn into a studio?

If we had a full complement then maybe yeah but there's nothing feasible with just the two of us unfortunately. Something will work out. I'm just struggling mentally just now with a few things and I'm maybe placing too much importance on this but I genuinely think it will help, so because of that I'm getting impatient.

Fair do's - if you've got shit on, you've got shit on which will need sorting first I imagine. Shame though

I've got one of these. It's got a lot of effects, albeit digital as opposed to analogue pedals, but yeah, it has the lot. Pro-tip: If you do get one, turn the volume right down on your bass when selecting a different effect, as some of them are much louder than others!

quadfather Nah I don't need to sort anything first as I think a big part of the issue is I'm NOT playing live. 15 years solid I played live regularly between practice and gigging. Turns out it's left a gaping hole that I can't fill with anything else. I miss the banter the most. Just the shooting the shit at practice and working towards a common goal.

Yeah I know what you mean.
Well, if you care enough about it, you're just going to have to sort it somehow!

True.
Knowing my luck I'll build one, it'll become sentient, decide I'm inferior and attempt to kill me.

Just got back final masters for an album we've been working on for *ages*. Real happy with it, so we want to put it out on vinyl, but we want to try to avoid having to front that expense all on our own.
We have a little list of labels that we think could be interested. Any of you guys know anything about putting together promo packages? A friend who just got a release deal with his band said they'd just put up some stuff on YouTube and shopped it around.
I guess put up the whole album as an unlisted video, plus offer a download link with mp3's, and then somehow write something smart to go with it (:

Do you want to let people download the mp3's for free, or do you want to just let people listen to it, and then have a link or something where people could buy the album demo's? I.e., do you want money for this, or just want to get exposure?

Oooh pass. Years ago we tried doing that, the whole press pack thing and shopping it to labels but didn't have much success. They get inundated so much. It may be better to consider self financing the release yourself. I imagine vinyl is a big expense for a label on an as yet unsigned band so I'm not sure many smaller labels would.

Maybe start selling them for 99p as mp3 or something, and if it goes well, then look at bigger options? Tbh, I have no idea

Well, that's the gig set list done. Had a good jam last night, so pretty much ready for the gig now. And even better, got someone that's going to record it with professional gear! And it's Halloween fancy dress! And we've got a dry ice machine! photos.app.goo.gl/nHvaftWCNmSfFA8x9

I.e., do you want money for this, or just want to get exposure? After the actual release, sure, we'll put it up on bandcamp and all the streaming sites and whatever, but now I'm just talking about before release.
I know reviewers have gotten to the point where many won't bother listening to your stuff if they can't download it locally, so maybe labels are the same, or maybe some kind of streaming will suffice, who knows?
We have our previous release up for free, and if no labels are interested we might do it this time as well, we'll see. We're not in this to make money, but of course we're not gonna sell a vinyl at a loss

For christ's sake! Fucking bass drum skin broke last week! Still, at least it broke then, and not in the middle of the gig, which is only a week and a bit away now!
We might have found a way to record to it too - video, I mean. There's a friend of a friend that has some professional go-pro's, so we might be able to use those.
I've got to think of a fancy dress / suitable outfit yet too. So much to do!

You need a go-pro on your headstock quaddy. That would be awesome.

Haha, yeah that would be cool. They're pricey though. I'll ask the woman who is doing the video and see what she has available.

Sorted - got 2 or 3 gopros for the gig now, so if there's any left over I'll stick one on my bass. Might have to use them all for multiple viewing angles of the whole band though. Got the lightning sorted as well. Might even have a fog machine too! Also, we've got a big rug in the studio that looks a little bit like the floor in the red room in twin peaks, so we're going to see if we can get some massive red curtains. This is going to be absolutely fucking mad

They're designed to move around, that's the whole point, so if they're all in fixed spots it seems a bit of a waste somehow.

Yeah true. But it's a good way to get a static recording of the whole band too, and then we'll sync up the audio later in ableton. New pa speakers have just arrived. Jesus christ they're huge photos.app.goo.gl/FqQ6G9SBiNFihF7k6

Yeah, think so. We've got another practice on wednesday without the drummer, just to tidy things up. Then a normal practice on the Friday night with the drummer, and then saturday morning, we can start setting up ready for a 8:30 / 9pm kick off. We're aiming to just plough through all 14 songs, but will play it by ear if either me or the drummer need a quick 10 min fag/comfort break, and that's about it really. I'm just playing along each night to the songs to try and get them fully ingrained, but not much will change from now until we go on. I just hope we can get it all recorded and sync'd up afterwards. Really looking forward to it now. Just got sort out what I'm going to wear. Oh, matron
