We really seem to be piling on crisis after fucking crisis. This looks like it is going into a drawn out tragedy. A few more years and it will be Taiwan.
Maybe we'll get lucky and get another pandemic.
On the plus side all my Sifu playthroughs must have taught me something. I'll be ready for the fall of civilisation.

I wonder if you went back in time and told people/MPs ‘he will push Brexit through but he will also be in charge of a global pandemic and maybe an actual war with Russia’ how many would actually it’s differently …?

We really can't afford some fucking appeasement bollocks, though. Sadly, it is time to act because if you don't act now, as others said, it's Taiwan, Latvia, Estonia and so on.
China will be watching this closely and if Putin "wins" then China will absolutely go for Taiwan and Tibet.

I’m usually quite mentally resilient, but this frustrates and confuses me. Gives me a feeling of dread and helplessness. This is bad. Why oh why is Putin such an anachronistic cunt?

I wonder how far our government will go with sanctions/posturing considering how intertwined our politics is with Russian money. In recent months, off the back of Covid, the British public collectively awakened to the ‘simple’ lies and deceit at the heart of government. I feel we are going to be exposed to some much more uncomfortable lies and deceit on the back of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Kinda get the sense this will shape home politics for the next generation.

That footage of Putin having a security 'debate' with his officials yesterday is absolutely fucking chilling. Only a single individual in that entire room who isn't utterly terrified.

It's also very noticeable how marginalised the UK is in all this. Quite aside from whether we'd actually want to do anything. Apart from being somewhere the right side of the pond to use as a battlefield all of Nato except the USA has always been of marginal influence. Only America has an armed forces big enough and a nuclear arsenal large enough to give Russia pause. The rest of us have always been window dressing, Putin is just more open about that than previous Russian leaders.

We still have enough nuclear weapons to bring about the end of humanity twice over.

Sounding like Scholz is pulling the plug on Nord Stream 2. Good. I mean, they're effectively trying to retake land they believe is theirs whilst holding energy supply over the West's head. It's beyond time to call their bluff. That and asset forfeiture for his Euro-based billionaire buddies is a really good start.

I don't think anyone has the balls or wherewithal to use nuclear weapons with the whole mutual assured destruction thing. At least you would hope.

The issue is that for the UK it's going to come down to political will. And given that our current Tory government are up to their eyeballs in Russian dark money pretty much guarantees that all we'll hear is a lot of 'tough' rhetoric coupled with ultimately meaningless sanctions, which will amount to negligible rubbles to Putin.
In a world where we were actually still of international relevance, and our leaders were not effectively in hock to Russia, then what we should be seeing is numerous London-based Russian oligarchs, those who are unable to clearly and satisfactorily account for their wealth, having their accounts and properties frozen for the foreseeable. Threatening Putin's finances is genuinely the only card the UK really has to play here. But it won't happen, of course.

Some pretty tough rhetoric from BoJo the clown and the government, too. Talking about "a barrage of sanctions", including freezing assets and restricting economic activity in the UK for Putin's mates.
Hard to imagine that it's not just posturing, though.
