Kicking off now maybe, big explosion in Donetsk. It's Russia pushing that story. Nothing on AP or Reuters yet Well they would, they went to all the effort to blow up a jeep that belongs to the head of the police or whatever they call the Russian controlled lot in Ukraine. After evacuating all the Russian speakers earlier. Clearly a Ukrainian assassination attempt. * *sarcasm

Winter Olympics end today. Not by A.A.Milne.
"Thank you Russia", says Winnie the Poo, "for holding off until my global branding media attention honey pot is fully empty before you spark a possible World War Three."
"That's okay" says Piglet Putin. "You fill up on bearing down on Taiwan as I assemble my Heffalumps along the border of the Hundred Acre Wood."
"Those fucking Tiggers in charge of the woods, why, they wouldn't know a Bee from a Jagular."
Chapter 2. Tigger chases his own tail again.
Boris Tigger. "Christopher Robin must never realise what a cunt I am. Let's get all bellicose and make things worse. It's on the other side of the Hundred Acre woods anyway."
Biden Tigger. "I'm tired. Sanctions! Sanctions! Stern words, and sanctions!"
Chapter 3: Christopher Robin's head is Caved in by A flying Nuclear Honey Pot.
"Ouch!"
The End.

I still kinda doubt that Russia is actually going to invade. It feels like a dumb thing for them to do.
That said, I have no real stakes in this, and can understand why other people are worried. Maybe Putin was originally bluffing, and now he's put himself into a corner where he can't back down anymore.
The diplomatic games going on are weird too. Our PM is saying that war is "inevitable", which feels like the wrong thing to be saying.

It's not like Boris to lack decorum and say the entirely wrong thing.
Tbh I get the impression Boris is looking forward to a good old war. Can use it to distract from his scandals and it lets him live out his Churchill fantasies.

He's such a relic*. Should Gorbachev have mass-invaded every state east of Poland in 1989 after basically ignoring them for a decade?

He's on one.
Wouldn't be surprised if he unveils the hammer and sickle again.

They have to go after everything. That fucking 70 million dollar yacht should never have been allowed to leave Germany.
Go after all the money in London, all the property, the chalets, the castles and mansions, the dodgy companies. Once the blionaires start taking big losses he loses support.

Who's going to go after it though? The Tories? There's a reason the Russians donate bucketloads to the party and it's not aligned political views.

I really hope the UK have some sanctions planned which really have teeth. Probably not cos they like the Oligarchs cash bolstering London's house prices. But really just fucking do something with meaning.

Oh, he's not invading Ukraine, he's invading two states that were in Ukraine but are independent as of a few hours ago.
Whew, that's a relief. I thought he was going to invade Ukraine!

He might want to play that game but not for long. If he turns off the gas for too long, we find power elsewhere and the Saudis step in. Then he's fucked.

Girlfriend is having a go at me for being a little bit nervious about this. "It's over there, why worry? You seem more worried about this than Covid". *Sigh* time for a new girlfriend.

It's also very noticeable how marginalised the UK is in all this. Quite aside from whether we'd actually want to do anything.

He's probably ironing his Churchill suit as we speak. Putin has essentially backed himself into a corner now by playing chicken with sanctions. The Russian economy is pretty dire and I doubt they could afford the full blown invasion they are hinting at.
