I *thought* it was their strategy, that the D+ shows were kinda optional. Eg: Sam ends one movie as Cap. The tv show has him go through all that crisis of confidence but then he ends up as Cap. He starts the next movie as Cap.
It *seemed* like a good idea at first, as it meant the shows could add depth for those that watched them, but not mess up those that didn't.
But it also meant that the shows felt largely pointless, and they do seem to have dumped it with things like Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels.
So who knows..

I'd assumed it was the opposite and they were trying to make everything essential so you had to subscribe to D+ / watch all the movies if you wanted to keep up. Because they want all the money. All of it.

And this is why your films are bombing at the cinema when you keep releasing them a month later via streaming.

The end of the DCEU is possibly casting a shadow over it as well, even though it's got absolutely nothing to do with it.

If anything it's the unofficial start of the new one.

I’m not sure enough people care that much about which version of DCEU/U it is.
I think the problem is no one cares about Blue Beetle. It looked like the equivalent of a 90s straight to video film, reviews have also said it’s middle of the road and unoriginal.
Flash did shit because it was a rubbish CGI fest reliant on nostalgia for a 30 year old portrayal of a character done badly.
There’s too many superhero films now for ‘ok’ to be worth watching.

Yeah it was more or less sent out to die. The strikes didn't help but WB didn't shows signs of pushing it.
Comic book movies could definitely do with toning it down. You read how much some had for budgets and can't help but wonder what it was spent on. The Flash still being worked on as WB started doing advanced screenings was pretty crazy.

No chance Dune Part 2 comes out this year if the strikes aren't over in a few weeks.

Aquaman still sticking to its release date though, which I can't help but feel has a bit of a "cut your losses" feel to it. And I say that as someone who really enjoyed the first film.

This strike has to suck for people like the cast of The Blue Beetle. I assume it's basically their big break, and then they can't go out and promote it and it probably dies partly because of that.
People like Cruise or Momoa have already had their big breaks and don't really have so much resting on one movie.

Most of it lays at the feet of WB and their absolute lack of promotion and obviously, err...*checks notes...Storm Hilary. I doubt that this particular movie would have made a strong case even with the cast promoting it.

Agreed, but it must still suck for them to know that they couldn't.
I haven't seen it, but it sounds like the family is fun and having them on the usual round of talk shows being funny couldn't have hurt.

Arleen Sorkin, the original voice of Harley Quinn, has died. She was only 67.
She didn't just voice her she was more of less the inspiration for the character and so many of Harley's mannerisms were actually based on Sorkin herself.
Very sad for fans of BTAS!

Oh man, that's sad. Just like Kevin Conroy was for Batman, she'll always be the true voice of Harley's character for me.

Ironically, if any movie proves that the superhero bubble has burst it was the first Aquaman doing over a billion. How the fuck did that happen?

Momoa has some pull. This should do better than Shazaam and BB which felt targeted towards a demographic.
I will be surprised if it's a success financially, given it cost 200 mill.

I have to say, I do think the first aquaman is one of the better, if not the best snyderverse movie (the snydercut not withstanding). I know thats not saying much.
EDIT: Does THE Suicide Squad count? If so, its that.

I really enjoyed the first Aquaman, it was just so out-there and weird. Incredibly colourful, generally very funny, and with some really cool visual ideas that made an underwater world look suitably alien and different. Remember, this is a film that featured an army of crab-men, a teenage mermaid in a mech suit, and a kaiju voiced by Mary Poppins. In the same scene.
My only criticism was that it was about forty minutes too long.
I'll be honest, I've had lower expectations for the sequel for a long time, after James Wan said it was going to be darker and grittier, which is the last thing I want from an Aquaman movie. Give me more drumming octopuses.
So anyway, this trailer at least looks really colourful with some weird sea shit going on. More people riding giant seahorses, which is only ever a good thing. But given all the stuff surrounding its production and the current state of Hollywood, to say nothing of the fortunes of most DC films nowadays, I'm not very optimistic, although I do hope it's fun at least.

It's one of the best looking comic book movies IMO. A lot of very impressive shots in it.
It's fine but crazy it did over 1Bn. Seem to remember it releasing the same time as several other big films as well?

The screening of Aquman I went to was full of women. Definitely a factor of its success.
It looks like it’s going to be a fun film but I thought the same of the first one and that was giant octopus turd. As we’re on the subject, how much will the Amber factor have an impact on people going to see this?

I doubt anyone cares other than a negligible minority of absolute psychopaths. All the true crime mums have moved on to other things.
