Just returned to this for Ascension and this game is so fucking great. I'm not one for endless modes as a rule but the narrative stuff is just so well done so it's given me some impetus.
I googled what you need to do to see it all and that's the aim before I consider the game complete.
After spending an age dragging myself through Horizon FW this is just so much more immediate and fun. Might even join some randomos in co-op.

My problem with Ascension is that there's no real progress of stats or anything so you're just really depending on your skill level to get further. And I've kind of peaked.

It’s a great mode. The cool thing is that it absolutely rains weapons and upgrades on you so it is actually more roguelike now in that you can actually get builds going so RNG can make or break a run. It just distills everything down to its elements, it’s really cool.
Worth a rebuy? Dunno but I reckon it would be 10-15 quids worth of content if they decided to charge for it.

I'm considering the phase 3 boss as the 'end' as that's the requirements for the story content. My best is about 2/3rds through phase 3 so far. |

Done it. All the storyline in ascension and to the end credits.
Phew again what a game. Think I'll put it down now...
I probably only put in an extra 5 hours or something over the main game, so not sure it's worth a re-buy.. but so happy to have played this again. It's effectively an extra Biome with some new gameplay features.
Some will keep playing this for ages mind you - the rapid rate of weapons it chucks at you makes it perfect to level up new weapon perks you didn't manage in the main game and so mix up play styles a bit more.

It won 4 BAFTAs this evening (audio, music, lead performer and best game), so Housemarque are certainly going to be celebrating that.

The £70 asking price for a roguelike really didn't do it any favours as far as a press release is concerned but it really deserves all its plaudits.
The sound design is on another level, the game play, punishing but satisfying. In some ways more of a git gud game than Soulsborne. Love it.
