Halo Infinite

I'm sure there was a load of bluster before it came out that it would be the Halo platform for the next 10 years or some bollocks

The very first Halo did the whole 'starting-the-story-in-the-middle' thing the best, created a sense of intrigue rather than a feeling of 'not this confusing shit again.'

A reboot is needed.

It's a real shame it got to this. Infinite is 'fine' but Halo games should be much more than that. Before they've been bursting with content, this just feels half-baked. The world is fun to traverse and the gun play is it's usual strength but it's too samey. There's little glimpses of what it could be, certain encounters are excellent, hidden rooms and areas show there was intent for people to explore. However, it's just not enough for the game to hit a consistent high.

I thought Infinite *was* the reboot

Two more hvt to go too. Mopped up a reasonable amount of the filler, but it was a slog. Thankfully, the combat of nades, dome melee is still fun for the combat.

I'm not really sure what a reboot would achieve because after Halo 3 ended the human-Covenant war we've managed to keep going back to Master Chief on some kind of Halo ring fighting essentially the Covenant.

I think both Halo 4 and Infinite offered the opportunity for a soft story reboot but I think they both clung on a bit too much to past lore. I really, really enjoy playing the Halo games, but I must confess to being a bit lost in the story at this point. I'd be quite happy with a new Halo campaign either set elsewhere on the Infinite ring or on another place entirely and just enjoy shooting Covenant/Banished and tooling around in vehicles.

In fact, my big two notes would be: no boss encounters in small environments (the game excels in scale, so a "boss" encounter should be more like taking on the Scarab in Halo 3); and make the grappling hook a permanent part of your inventory that you can't replace.

Currently a bit over half way through with my son. As usual it's utterly brilliant in co op. Love it, just constantly fun and funny.

I'm trying to remember but I think not. I think I remember a boss that was utter shit in its difficulty spike in a circular room.

One of the encounters for a skull is against and it's pretty tough solo.

That last room disgusted me so much I ended up deleting the game and haven't been back.

Might have been on Heroic, though I've always played Halo on Legendary and finished them that way first.

Might be one of those situations where, coming back at it with fresh eyes, you'd breeze it. So, perhaps I'll reinstall some time.

They really should have delayed this until the co op was ready. It's fantastic fun, nearly the end now and we all have most of the power ups and the large encounters are just brilliant chaos.
