Anyone with a pc, if you really want to get your partners dripping, try one of the Truck Simulators. I’ve completed a couple of jobs today, some used plastic from Manchester to Carlisle, and fish fingers from Manchester to Newcastle. Think it’ll be me with the fish fingers later on the way my wife’s been drooling at me since. imgur.com/a/0z7ki49That’s the dream setup!

VR is actually the best imo, it just gives me headaches.

I tried dirt rally on the PS4 vr and had to stop. I felt ill the rest of the day.
My experience has been better since then with vr on a pc, but I’m too scared to try another driving game. Maybe something slower like one of the truck simulators would be a good place to start though.

Did my first ever oval race this evening as the USF2000 is running one of the included ones. Don't really get what all the fuss about? I'm sure there's probably loads of strategy and stuff for long races but for 15mins I was surprised how easy it all was. Unlike road courses, once I'd found the limit I could comfortably repeat it to within a tenth or two ad infinitum.
Maybe it's just this car and track combo that's not representative. One bend was totally flat, the other needed a slight lift. The car was totally planted once the tyres warm up so there wasn't much I needed to do. Bit boring really.

Jump in the street stock car, it's a good laugh and shorter courses are strange, wait for the legacy daytona oval to appear.

Never saw the fascination of Ovals. When i ran USF I just skipped the Oval weeks. Seems very boring to me, barely challenging left turns occasionally, no thanks. Never turned a wheel in iRacing Nascar

DecksThe Alcantara rim is fucking sex like you said. Feels great. I'm currently having a blast doing Nord in the Porsche 911 GT.

Had a quick go at the AMS2 update last night. The Champ cars are bloody good fun.
Also had a quick Vee race on iracing, span on lap 1 then got excited about a potential come back because crew chief said I'd set the fastest lap and I kept beating it.
Gradually realised that I was not catching anyone other than the tail end car ahead. Post race confirmed I was in fact about 0.5s a lap off the pace the whole time. Either a bug or Crew Chief is now able to sense my frustration and feeds me soothing lies like Rob Smedley used to do for Massa.

I think it means YOUR fastest lap You can change it in the settings, very customisable. The Vee's had a huge explosion of participation when it first launched, not sure what it is like now, seemed to be a bit of crashfest so everyone went back to Skippys.

I know he normally says YOUR but I swear he said THE. I'm almost certainly mistaken.

Racelabs and simhub apps have overlays for that info, leaderboard with best lap times. That info I’d rather a graphic than rely on CrewChief.

I'm running the free version of Racelabs. Can't remember if you have to pay for extra lap data, if not I'll add it to my layout.
Maybe I'll just tweak the settings so that Crew Chief always tells me I'm the fastest (and most handsome). The ego boost was nice. Got to be worth a tenth alone.

I only paid for Simhub so its 100% a free option with racelabs. It's Standings option in overlays, just checked.

Finally got round to playing GT Sport last night. It's pretty sweet with the wheel, but my god, can you not turn off the red gear number that tells you what you should be in for the next corner? It's annoying as shit.

Finally got my first Iracing win tonight at the 34th attempt. Admittedly only in the rookie MX5 Cup 4/30 split but it was a proper punch the air moment.
I went back to the MX5 as it's at Okayama Short and that combo is a decent benchmark as it's where it started again in rookies last summer. Probably did 100 laps of the place back then.
I managed to improve a second a lap this week, which is very pleasing as I can clearly remember feeling like I was already on the absolute limit and being absolutely baffled as to how people could be 1.5s faster than me. I'm still a couple of tenths off the top split fastest lap pace but at least I'm in the ballpark now.

You get a couple of those moments, as you get more used to it and changing cars. I been running Hungaroring with the skippy this evening and it finally clicked for me, new track and not run it yet, been about 2 hours in all trying to learn it.

I'm not especially into hotlapping for hotlapping's sake but I do find the technical side of driving fascinating. I really enjoy just experimenting and feeling where the grip is. Think it's also why I prefer cars that are more analogue. Traction control and ABS systems just don't do it for me and I never really feel at one with cars that have them.
The 'breakthrough' with the MX5 was being more aggressive with engine braking and using downshifts into first gear and the inside curb at some corners to help rotate the car. Also a bit more patience not to get on the power too early.
A driver61 YouTube video I watched a few months back also made me realise some of the technical mistakes I was making. Can certainly recommend that channel for 'driver coaching' videos. He really explains concepts clearly.

Giving this week a miss in Skips, have not got Hungaoring and not particularly inclined to buy it. Trying to get into the Top 10 in the league for Div3 was on the first page last I checked but only run 6 races due to health issues so it looks like it will all depend on Nurburgring races coming up. Skippies round the full ring, madness

I read through all this thread at 4am this morning. Think I talked myself into getting a wheel set up in a few months time. Mentioned in another thread it is something I wanted to do. Guess it gives me a chance to properly research what I need but quite like the jist of addyb’s set up and something I will probably copy. Only PlayStation racing at the moment but .. fuck I’m going to eventually have the full PC rig aren’t I?

I bought a cheap vr headset August 2019, that made me buy a £100 G920 on Black Friday 2019 and when covid hit in March 2020 I had the triple screen. Its a slippery slope.

Heh, it is a slippery slope, I am pretty much set with my gear...for now. Race in VR as well, so much better. KD 60th is decent mate, I always aim to get on the first page of my Division. Tend to score my big points in top split races where the regular aliens fuck up, even won a top split race this season like that

Predictably, after the win, I received a good old fashioned Iracing rape in the USF2000. Qualified midpack, then on the parade lap an idiot weaving 'to warm their tyres' lost control and went off and caused everyone to suddenly concertina behind. I foresaw this happening and managed to stop in time but the guy behind me didn't and removed my rear wing before the race had even started.
Then was on a recovery drive and a guy a further lap down span right across the track in front of me in trying to let me buy. Then my monitors randomly went black for a second, and I lost control.
10x incident points and a broken car 2s a lap off the pace without actually making a mistake. Bastards.

Sounds like my USF races before I binned the series.
The amount of people who couldn't get round the parade lap was comical

Looking at wheels…well it’s a bit of a minefield isn’t it? So many compromises or reasons to have one over the other.
Logitech G29. Solid and good durability. Not great brake pedals and I don’t think you can generally upgrade it for PS4/5. Has gear inners. Going fairly cheap though at £260. Can even order it at Argos and try and smuggle it in the house without eyes accusing me of things. For a few days at least. Could probably justify getting it now.
G2923. Slightly better brakes and trueforce (marketing jazz?) But a good £100 quid more
Thrustmaster 248. Same ballpark as g29, but opens up the option of upgrade path but those gear paddles are ducking loud and really puts me off even considering it.
T300. Belt driven. In stock on Amazon with payments over 12 months. Shit peddles and seems unreliable. (though that could be internet being vocal but it is one thing that keeps coming up, although seems ok if you don’t max out FFB) Opens up upgrade paths. Could justify getting it now.
T300 RS models. Out of stock everywhere. Well thought off and seems to be the darling choice. Opens up upgrade path etc.
DD. Expensive and fanatec are shipping from USA which is a ballache. So a no go really.
Kinda caught between of going Logitech and if I really get into - upgrade to DD in a couple years time or just going mid range enjoy it until it breaks.
Or I could stick with the pad and try and get the urge for a wheel out of my system.

Fanatec ships from the US? Aren't they a German company?

Fanatec are German. You'll have to pay VAT and import tax thanks to Brexit if you buy from them.
