PS4 Horizon Forbidden West will now get a free upgrade to the PS5 version. This is good news but stupid that it required a U-turn in the first place.

Me too. Us handsome PS5 owners were paying for an extra tenners worth of graphics but if I can fuck around with buying the cheaper version and just upgrading that, why would I straight up buy the more expensive one?
Seems like if the work around ends up being that easy, leaving it at top whack seems even more anti-consumer.

I've just seen that Sony have said that going forward there will be a 10 quid charge to upgrade from PS4 to PS5 for a first party exclusives which include God of War and GT7.

Think they've only backpedaled on this one because it was mentioned as being a free upgrade in the past.
Cheap US PSN codes and the PS4 version for me then if I do decide to get it.

I went with eneba last time. There's usually a post about it on HUKD around the time of a big release.
£46 for Ratchet & Clank was pretty palatable compared to £70!

The larger problem with that workaround is that you’re still supporting the full priced $/£70 release, and therefore telling Sony HQ that the pricing increase is justified. If you object to the increase you really need to hold fire and not buy the games, at least until they’re on sale at the price you’re ok paying.

Yeah, absolutely. It takes the sting out of the purchase for me at the time, but I still know that I'm willingly becoming part of the problem.
I'll try to hold fire on this one, but guess we'll see how paper-thin my convictions are next year...
Considering that my PS5 was bought purely to play exclusives and I'm hesitant to even buy those, I'm beginning to think I might be better off just selling it and grabbing one in a year or two. I could just grab a used PS4 to fill the void if I wanted to.

I've barely switched it on since picking it up, my lad uses it more than I do, most of my gaming at the moment is Xbox. Doesn't help that of the three games I've got - Demon's, Returnal and Hades - the first two are definite 'winter games' for me, and I've had Hades sat unplayed on the Switch shelf for months now, so fuck knows why I picked it up again for PS5. I don't even like most Sony exclusives. |

It seems the route to a cheaper upgrade is via disc and a bit of a fuckabout so, yes, Horizon is getting parked until its on sale.

After I got my PS5, I had my 4 running in the spare room for my son to play Fortnite, FIFA etc. It felt painfully slow, and not to mention the fan noise. We traded it for a Series S which has been great (entirely based on Gamepass). I don’t think I could go back… |

The Series X is a better One. The PS4 was a better 3. It's basically the same as every generation in the first year, it's the early adopter choice. The benefit this time is that the generational advantages are pretty significant for most of the last gen games, so it's not just an extra visual bump but a significant performance boost, and it's quiet on top.
And there are some exclusives.
