The same service on the previous platform with the same games you can play on it too? How is that a better situation, it's identical? You've spent an extra £400+ to do the same thing.
You've got access to a kings ransom of games that look and play better, largely thanks to all but one incarnation of the xbox one sucking out loud. |

But PS4 games are so much better on PS5… the SSD makes a world of difference. This is the thing, right? The PS5s USP at the moment is 'its a better PS4' which isnt exactly the most compelling reason to upgrade. The PS5 has way better exclusives 10 months after launch than the PS4, though, which, at that time, had Resogun, Killzone and Infamous. Oh, and knack. Was hardly worth owning before Böoodborne, 16 months or so after the PS4‘s launch. PS3 was probably better, but I. can’t remember anything that far back (yet).  |

Was hardly worth owning before Böoodborne, 16 months or so after the PS4‘s launch. Yeah, I got a PS4 about 18 months/2 years after it came out because I have, apparently, become dumber with age (I bought it for MGS5, so however long that was after the console launched). |

I think it's pretty disgusting of Microsoft to make you sign a contract that says if you own an Xbox you have to mention Gamepass 17 times a day or they murder someone in your family.

It's the same principle as upgrading your pc. Going from a base PS4 to PS5 is basically going from 1080p30 to 4k60, with additional I/O improvements, haptics etc. Obviously YMMV, but it is much better.
Plus exclusives.

Yeah, which is great and a no-brainer if you use it all the time as your primary console. I haven't turned my PS5 on in weeks now though and the exclusives are few and far between. I came close to getting DS for it in the sale earlier just for the sake of having something to play on it, despite knowing that From games aren't my cuppa.
I could easily sell it in a heartbeat for RRP and can grab the inevitable slim revision at a later date to catch up on exclusives... I'm just toying with the idea at the moment, but it really does feel a bit unnecessary. I'll see what they show on Thursday anyway and make up my mind then.

The truth is, if I had to pick one to keep right now, it would definitely be the Series X. And yeah, it's because of Gamepass (as much as I hate going on about it too) - you get access to a bunch of great games, including X/S optimised titles, for a ridiculous price.
The PS5 feels very much like a Nintendo console in many ways tbh - unique, with a great pack-in title that shows off its gimmicks really well, but with ridiculous game prices. So yeah, I'll play those nice exclusives at some point, but at the moment I don't feel the need to spend money on them.

I only got a ps5 because of the backlog - idea was the boy would inherit the PS4, leaving me to play the 5 in peace. Obviously I don't get a look in...
Am definitely considering an S for him though. The rate he goes through games, The Thing That Should Never Be Mentioned will pay for itself in no time.

For me the 60 fps upgrade on games that support it is huge. Tried bloodborne the other day and could not cope with 30. Never thought I would notice the difference but that and the load speeds makes a huge difference

If it were a choice between the PS5 and Series S, I’d definitely keep the PS5.
The PlayStation has games I actually want to play - I’m currently very much enjoying Ghost of Tsushima and have pre-ordered Horizon Forbidden West. Death Stranding is also on my list.
Xbox… I will play and most probably enjoy Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 but neither would be on top of my list if they weren’t “free” (not free). I tend to find myself playing stuff because it’s there, and have started, played a couple of times and not gone back to far too many games. That’s fine - it’s one of the reasons a sub is a nice business model - but it feel like the difference between passing the time and Taking My Hobby Seriously.

Sony must be looking at the data though and assessing whether they need to do anything to compete with GP. PS+ is a decent deal, Now is a shambles.

It would be nice to have a gamepass equivalent for PS that's better than Now, but I don't feel I'm missing out.
Decent amount of high quality exclusives already, plus the upgrades and mulitplat games has been a great start to the gen.
I use boomerang so I might feel differently if I was forking out 70 quid for the exclusives.
