Personal politics aside, I'm not sure they've thought this through. The general public in Oz absolutely hate Botham. Whilst the politicians may differ, I can see them resisting his efforts (ha!) if it plays well with their voters.

Mmmmmnnn.... I dont know about that. Appointing a cricketer as a trade envoy is ridiculous but kind of funny but, bigger picture, its another example of them putting completely unqualified people into positions just because they share the right ideology.

There's a weird insecurity that's existed for decades so whenever a famous Brit or a Yank heap the praise on (beautiful scenery, friendly people, the food blah blah blah) it's literally on the front page of the papers. |
