So my most favourite record label ever on bandcamp, and the source of all my ambient music purchases, is called Cryo Chamber, based in Oregon. They have a scottish musician signed that goes by the name Ruptured World and his stuff is brilliant. Proper deep space / underwater lovecraftian vibes. His newest release is so good: cryochamber.bandcamp.com/album/void-ritualsAnyway, the label have sales every week of a few bits and bobs and I keep discovering new awesomeness. What they have just done as well, is launch a sub-label called Cryo Crypt. If you ever fancy walking in to work whilst imagining you're on your own on a quest through the darkest reaches of some far flung fantasy world conjured up during the 1980s, then this is the music for you: cryocrypt.bandcamp.com/Just thought I'd share. I listen to all this shit whilst writing and it's amazing.

wunty Thanks, that's really cool. I think it might have been a recommendation from you that turned me onto Carbon Based Lifeforms too so please do share any more ambient spacey stuff.

There's going to be a posthumous Sophie album, which has been mentioned by her brother a few times since she died. So it's not been rushed out, which is good. Not sure about this lead single though. I liked Sophie as her music was at times a deconstruction of club music, but there's no real twist here, it's just a decent hyperpop style track, and tbh if it wasn't a Sophie track I'm not sure I'd even paid attention to it.
It does fit in with Sophie's ouvre, but I hope there's a few tracks a bit more gnarly and twisted on the album to balance it out.
anyway I'll have to listen to Ponyboy now

Immortal Nightbody is a fairly interesting artist, based in hip-hop but very large 80's goth influences, particularly in the synth and bass choices that form the loops he uses, and now he's using breakbeats. I'm not entirely sure this works totally, the chorus throws doesn't quite gel with the breakbeats. But the guitar sliding back into the atonal synth is quite nice. (I may have posted this before. I can't remember.)

Cheers, gamecat - will have a listen. I love the album, but I'm not sure it needs to be any longer!

Been listening to that posthumous Sophie album.
It's not very good. The sonic textures are all there, like the synths and patches and riffs sound like the stuff she produced, but the arrangements are quite lackluster.
I think this makes sense, as I understand this album was put together by her brother, who I think helped mix the Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides album, so he knows how to make the things sound good, but without Sophie to piece things together it's a bit boring.
There's a few nice moments but they just lead nowhere, and the myriad of guest artists do their best to hold things together but it all just feels a bit aimless, songs feel like half-finished sketches.
I don't think it's a lazy attempt to cash in or anything like that, it's been years since her death so it's not been rushed out, and Sophie wasn't exactly massive, I think it's well intentioned but just can't capture the spark.
I really wanted to like this album but it just doesn't land

drhickman1983 That's a shame - I liked her first album, but haven't got around to checking out the new one yet. Sounds like fairly standard fare for mostly-finished, posthumous releases of this sort.

Yeah, I think it was, understandably, overrated quite a bit. Its alright but I think its being given a lot of context for things it wasn't aiming for. I dunno, its decent, not brilliant.
