I find this really evocative too but I think its just because I played it so much at the time

System Shock 2 soundtrack has pretty much been etched into my head from playing it so many times. You know, I turned it off almost straight away. Seemed so at odds with the atmosphere. Silence was much creepier than a rave
The ending of SS2 is so weird. I had no idea what I'd just watched. The game was great and then... er
Some of them are a bit drum+bass heavy, yeah, but when I'm zipping through a level on the way to somewhere else and it kicks in, it just fits for me. I thought the ending was great, but there you go Wish they'd sort the remake out or the 3rd one

I wonder if they'll change it for the remake

Tenchu. All the levels had a great theme. I'm particularly fond of Punish The Evil Merchant: Also, not that I'm obsessed with ninja games or anything but... You and I are now firm friends. Please, do not struggle.

I wonder if they'll change it for the remake Do you mean the old school cyberspace bit, or just the final confrontation with the fmv? “Due to miscommunications or differing ideas, a different cinematic video was created from the one that I originally scripted,” says Levine. “It had this elaborate sequence where Shodan would attempt to kill you in a double-cross, as this ‘cyber stinger’ that was in view provided tension of your impending doom.” Upon getting his hands on the video for the ending sequence, Levine didn’t see anything that he wrote in the script. “We didn’t have much to work with. It was like when you look in the cupboard and you’re trying to make soup, and you have a bag of salt and couple of pinto beans.” Working with fixed assets can be extremely challenging especially with limited time and resources as well as fighting the technology back then. Levine remembers, “We had to write to the assets we had at that point, and all we could do was edit it. We completely ran out of time and that cut scene wasn’t the right ending for the game.”

I don't think I actually remember much about the ending tbh. Everything after being inside the many is a bit hazy.

After The Many, You end up in cyberspace again, similar to the cyberspace vector graphics from system shock 1. Marie DeLacrouix is dead now, and is guiding you with audio logs to a square chamber. Shodan appears, and you have to piss around with 4 pillars which drops all the shields. Shodan wets herself and tries to coerce you to join her by saying she'll give you all kinds of powerups, and your character just goes "Nah", and shoots her.
Final cutscene is where a couple manage to get away in an escape pod, but there's a hint of some type of Shodan residue in the escape craft, setting up a potential system shock 3.
I think that's right anyway

Thomas responds, saying they will return and that Rebecca is acting strange. Rebecca is shown speaking in a voice similar to that of SHODAN, asking Tommy if he "likes her new look", as the screen fades to black.

Ahhhhh yes I remember it now. Don't think I was too keen on that actually. Or the Many section. The two ships prior to that is where the game shines. Loved when you went on to the Rickenbacker and everything's upside down.
Need to get back to my playthrough actually... but yes, I love the music.

I know some people hate it but I love the way the music on Tetris Effect changes the feel of the game so much. Some levels play like a rhythm action game and others just a euphoric victory lap despite it all just being different coloured Tetris

The Last Door is about as atmospheric as it gets. Considering how minimalist the detail is in most of its blocky pixelart there’s real proper mourning and dread because of its music and sound design

Have to say, this talk about it is making me want to fire it up again... How many fucking times have I said that to god knows how many older games we keep discussing

There are some levels that pile on the pressure until you're just about to crack, but then you get the occasional chilled one thrown in to rack up some massive combo's. I really must get around to TE as it sounds like it gets around the one thing I disliked about Tetris - which was that it always gets uncontrollable after a certain point for most. Mind, that does wind up with a game that can take hours to play through with Lumines. Oh, and speaking of Lumines, a goddamn earworm:

All the instrumental Cubanate songs from Gran Turismo. Cubanate really are marmite even if you like industrial music and removing Marc Heal's vocals removed some of that marmite. For the longest time I thought I really dug GT but actually I was just digging Cubanate. youtu.be/QclmwkCtJPQAll of Rez, but obviously level five the most. When I played this first time on DC I was a) absolutely swept away into a different world and b) totally had a full-on robot chubby. youtu.be/WMMWwqwRggQ

I like the Ari Pulkkinen's Soundtacks I've listened to: Trine 1 & 2 and Outland. The Trine games have quite a light jaunty touch which is nice with Outland being a bit more dramatic and worldly sounding. Jesper Kyd's Assassin's Creed and Darksiders II stuff was enjoyable too. I recently played through a game called 'Stela' (a side-scrolling Limbo/Inside-esque puzzle platformer) and it had a wonderful atmosphere - whilst the visuals played a big part too, the soundtrack was notable for it's effectiveness and impact. The VirtuaVerse OST is cool for some synthesized chip-tune-ish metal. I'd buy that for a dollar (or euro):
Oh, and let's not forget the mighty Shadow Gangs - I enjoyed the tracks I heard that the dev fellow posted on that other european gaming forum whilst the game was in development.

I think I might be a bit obsessed with the Persona games, the combination of great characters, fun gameplay, and excellent production values really is a winner IMO. Love the animation and music in this

There's live concerts of the Persona soundtracks about. I've seen one for 3 and 4, they're worth a look
