Shearer was incredible. I assume it's because he chose heart over head, and therefore easier to ignore than someone winning titles all the time.

His issue was he is even more boring than Kane.

It is true, though, to a certain extent. If he had gone to united, he would probably have gone down as the literal GOAT. In that team he would have scored all the goals. As amazing as he was, its really difficult to not think his career was a bit of a missed opportunity.
(I think people will also say that about Kane, fwiw)

I think we just like to shit on our best players. I don’t Rooney as having higher status than Shearer despite his titles.

Well, at least Shearer did win the PL. Rooney a much different player than Kane and Shearer imo.

If you asked me who had a better career, its rooney. If you asked me who I prefer, its shearer as he seems like a top guy who played during the era I look back on most fondly (and was, objectively, the best).

To be fair to United fans who only really watch United and not other teams, we can only go off when he plays against us. I’ve never seen him have a good game against United. He was okay in the 6-1 game, but I would have looked decent for Spurs that day. He’s always had the whiff of flat track bully about him

I’d like to add that Rooney in an England shirt was no better, he padded his goals by scoring against the minnows and playing so many games.
He Was obviously always up for the big games at United though

Rooney was a revelation when he broke through. I was at Euro 2004 and he was sensational (until the inevitable injury).

He hasn’t turned up for a final but he scores in all the big games. United is weirdly the one game he doesn’t seem to show up for, but again he shows up against all the big teams 😎

He just played so many games against so many crap teams that he eventually broke the record, his goals to game ratio is bang average

Also just watched the Spurs 6-1 highlights and guess who was at fault for 3 of the goals? Oh yes Mr England himself Harry Maguire....

The younger one is now retired after a couple of seasons playing in midfield for Derby, the older one is Man Utd’s top scorer this season.

I'd still say Rooney had a very long and very successful career tbf.

Wales sound decent against Belgium.

Yes. Good stuff. Belgium made a game of it even though they didn't need to. Just need to avoid Italy or Scotland now Scotland and Wales are seeded so they are at home in the one legged semi final.

What is the point in internationals like this? I think my pub team could give San Marino a decent match. I know this was yesterday but for the point see Iceland and more recently to a lesser degree, Luxembourg. Total minnows who have improved hugely in the last 15 - 20 years

Quite. There were probably people after Zaire got done 9-0 in the 74 World Cup saying African teams should have to play off against Euro teams for qualification. 16 years on you’ve got Cameroon beating Argentina and getting to a quarter final.

Come back and make your point in 16 years when San Marino make a major tournament.

I think you should need to have at least a certain quota of players who are professional footballers. Looks like San Marino have 1, who plays in the lowest professional league in Italy. It's pretty silly otherwise. Also, why don't all these other places like Monaco, VC, Isle of Man, Jersey, etc. have teams? Might as well for more ridiculousness.

The issue isnt so much that you play shit teams in qualifying, its expanding the competition so that they start making it into the finals, making the group stages a bit of a procession.

It's fine the way it is. Nations League for multiple games at your level and the championship qualifying groups because its fucking football. Its a rare chance for players to match themselves against a Xavi or Mbappé and for associations to earn some money. Even the expanded finals have been very good recently, there are lots of worthwhile stories in football that aren't about the top 3/4 teams.

There is the story of can San Marino score a goal, and the answer was yes, against Poland.
They conceded 46.

If they continue that way, I'll switch my opinion.

So how many people have died so far for Qatar to host this? Doesn't matter, it's just poor Indians/Filipinos etc. Their lives don't matter when billions are involved.
